This kind of saddle is named "Relvas". It's a traditional Portuguese saddle with the look of the "Portuguesa" saddle (bullfight saddle, suede covered seat and flaps), but meant to be a saddle for the the education of the horse and for dressage. It's built like a dressage saddle (tree, panels, often knee pads), but has the rectangle flaps like the "Portuguesa" saddle. It gives the rider more room to act and move, it's easier to mount and dismount, which is what a lot of riders like in the discipline of the Working Equitation.
