Portuguese Spindle 

I love watching her spin. It seems so relaxing. I loved hearing the owls in the background.

Now this is hand spinning. Don't need a wheel at all, just a decorated, tapered stick.

@WCiossek This style of spinning is/was used througout Europe and it makes sense, her fibre here is not good enough for suspended spinning. I suppose good wool was left for the spinning wheel and I think one used the spindle after everyone got a spinning wheel just for the tricky staff or while traveling.

What is the clicking we hear? I can't see any rings that might be clicking, nor any hitting on anything..... Also, is there a hook or anything on the tip that holds it? It looks like she's spinning from uncarded wool -- I tried that with some of my fleece, and you can still get a nice clean yarn, just a little more nubbly.

You can spin with this spindle faster than with a drop or turkish spindle. In this video, the spindle is used really very inefficient. Yeah, I was wondering about that, I've seen vids of french spindles used as supported spindles... this particular technique seems incredibly inefficient.
