Zwei. because rule #1: if you want to negate the whole sentence you put "Nicht" at the end of the sentence. I'm curious how long it would take a student in a traditional American classroom to learn what you're able to teach through your videos. The two of you have created something very special. You're an awesome teacher. Thank you.
I haven't found confirmation of the answer, but looking on the web, I think it's the first option, because you're negating 'gern' which is the 'liking' aspect.
You have a beautiful gift! You teach in a simple, but powerful way that makes me understand everything very well and it is fun to learn with you! I am seeeehr happy that I found you! Danke sehr for your time, patience, efforts, sacrifices and love to help us! Hugs from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil ♥
@@yourgermanteacher By the way, did you know that German is the second language spoken in Brazil and before the II WW it was co-official in many places?
Wow, this video is AMAZING! I've been studying German for over three years and grammar has always been a struggle for me. I've taken two structured classes and watched countless RU-vid videos by native German speakers trying to understand. This is my first time stumbling upon YourGermanTeacher and I understood in 12 minutes what's taken me years using other methods. Thank you Luzi for your awesome work and easy-to-understand teaching methods. I'll definitely be watching all your videos!
i am struggling with this one and no one could explain this as clearly as you do. please create more videos! you are such a good teacher. even my course teacher still make me confused about this chapter. i am so glad to found your channel!!!!!!!!
I was so confused about how to use "nicht," and your detailed explanation has really helped👌🏻👏🏻 I can't thank you enough for making the topic so clear🙂
Thanks Luzi, I round this video just now, while reviewing all A1 ,,,thanks for all you do Making everything soo clear…am still a bit doubtful but I think the answer is #1 🤔🙋🏽♀️👍
I think I am still a bit confused (just less so than before the video). Without looking at any of the comments for hints.... Thank you for making these videos for those of us who really want to learn German, but are finding it difficult. And being in my mid-50s, it seems harder to learn than when I was younger! At first glance I would choose #2 because it appears we want to negate the whole sentence. I was taught if "I don't like the table", I would put nicht at the end. However, something tells me that #1 ist Richtig because what we really want to negate is "gern". So I am going with my gut and choosing Ich singe nicht gern for the win. Am I right?
Hausaufgabe: Ich würde sagen, dass "Ich singe nicht gern" richtig wäre. 'gern' is the part that's telling you that you LIKE singing. Ich singe nicht. = I don't sing (I either can't or don't want to) Ich singe nicht gern. = I don't LIKE to sing. I also like that we do something similar in English, where we can emphasize a certain part of the sentence by negation, but it's partially also by tone of voice, so not exactly the same... It's not Lisa who brings the money to her father tomorrow. Lisa doesn't bring THE MONEY to her father tomorrow. Lisa doesn't bring the money to HER FATHER tomorrow. Tomorrow, Lisa's not bringing the money to her father. Lisa's not bringing the money to her father tomorrow. Ich interessiere mich für Deutsch, weil es mit Englisch verwandt ist, deshalb suche ich immer nach Ähnlichkeiten zwischen den Sprachen :) There's an obsolete word in English that comes directly from übermorgen = overmorrow.
This is so BEAUTIFUL! I was struggling with this since a long time, but this video was SO helpful! 😄 It is perfectly paced with clear pronunciation and translations! Liked & subscribed!🙂
Sie sind ein schöner Lehrer. Früher hatte ich zu viele Fragen, aber Sie haben mir geholfen. Ich lerne Deutsch und diese Konzepte sind sehr wichtig. Vielen Lieben Dank!!
Thank you so much for this lesson. I am a beginner, and I was getting frustrated with the app I was using. I was getting the negative sentences wrong. You have very nicely and simply clarified the issue for me. Again thank you from Ireland.
Ich habe drei Optionen. Was denken Sie Luzi? -Ich mag nicht singen. -Singen, gefällt mir nicht. -Ich singe nicht gern. Ein tolles Video! Vielen Dank für die Erläuterung!
2 is correct for the sentence Lisa does not like to sing aber the 1st sentence means Lisa like singing but not too much. The nichts in sentence 1 negates the gern
Thank you Luzi you are a great teacher.. i passed my a1 because of your videos. I studied a1 in germany but i did not finish because I did not understand the teacher because they explained also more in german 🙄 I decided to stop and foccus watching your videos and thank god i passed the a1 exam and now i started watching your a2 videos 😊.. giving back in return i did not skip adds 😉 May god bless you more teacher Luzi.
Second one is correct, because if we want to make nagate a sentence we should put the word nicht at the end. I muss der Text in Deutsch schreiben, aber Ich kann nicht. Dankeschön für Ihre gut erklären. 🙏🙏🙏
Such clear explanations 😃. I have been using Duolingo to learn but it lacks proper explanations. Your videos have helped massively. Lovely teaching style Luzi. I am getting there. Thank you x nicht gern ist richtig
The correct answer is -Ich singe nicht gern because in this sentence, the position of nicht is before gern and it emphasize on don't like. Ich singe gern nicht means I like singing not or not singing. Correct me if I am wrong
I think the second one is the right one (Ich singe gern nicht) It means that it's *I who don't like to sing* but I still like to hear singing While the first sentence (Ich singe nicht gern) Means that *I don't like the singing in general* I hope it's right and thanks Danke schön
yes sure: 1. ich singe nicht gern: i dont like to sing. 2. ich singe gern nicht. i like not to sing. (like in a situation when sb asks you: you would like to sing? then you can use the second answer... sth like i rather dont sing now...) ok?
Homework answer attempt, without reading the comments! If I've understood it right, putting "nicht" at the end negates the verb, which is singing. So answer #2 means I like NOT singing? (Other people probably like me not singing!!). So if we want to negate the liking element, then answer #1 is right. I think. Either way, vielen Dank Luzi, das hat mir wirklich sehr geholfen!
Pronounciation of ch differes according to the letters preceeding it. I hope you do a video about pronounciation of different letter combinations in German language. I like your pronounciation and would love to learn it from you.
2.Ich singe gern nicht. I think because if I don’t like singing I should negated all sentences. And we want to negate verb at position zwei. Danke Lehrer
Hola Herr Luzi. I am Ruben form Argentina. Your class was very good for me. I just saw your class about verb " lassen" and now this class. Thank you for your time. You are very clear . Y disculpa mi pobre ingles. Mi aleman es peor porque acabo de empezar. Por cierto, The first one, ich singe nicht gern.
I would say #1 is correct. My thought process: What we're negating is the "like" part. Which in German is an adverb. If we put the nicht at the end we would be trying to negate the verb which I don't think is correct.
Thank you for the lesson, it make perfect sense albeit you need some time to get use to it. My answer is number 2 (correct) since the negation is on the verb, and "singe" is the main verb whereas "gern" is more like an adverb. I think...
So helpful. I like the way you lay out your examples and then review, and your comments under the video are so nicely organized. I bet your Patreon would be worth checking out. Also, very glad this is in English. After I watched the video about you two, I was afraid it would be German only. And I think the right answer is number 2.
thank you very much Matthias! well appreciated! :) Yes our videos are in German from B1 Level up... below is a mix of German and English... ;) Sorry but the answer is No 1... the second one would means sth like this: I would really like not to sing (today, now...). Hope this helps!
Hausaufgaben Die richtig Antwort ist Nummer eins. Negation of to like(gern). Nummer zwei option is negating the verb which means I don't sing(can't) Stimmit das? Please I would like to know if it's possible to make a practical videos for Nicht as well, like you did for others like würden, hätten.... Sei doch so lieb❤
Danke schon liebe Luzi, ich denke 1. “Ich singe nicht gern” ist richtig. I think nicht at end means my voice is not good for singing and I don’t want to do it. But before gern means just I don’t like to do it. Am I right? Could you explain that?
