For those curious about the overall volume of the GO: measured at 3 ft away, it reached 90db before the limiter kicked in - So plenty of jam as a practice amp! This amp (just like the mini) sounds much bigger than its size suggests! SPARK GO Link: bit.ly/3lS17pn Enjoy :)

This test just uses the spark as an audio interface for the 'amp software' on your phone because of how you recorded it...and not as an amp. Why not mic up with an sm57 the most widely used, and cheapest pro mic for amps? (@ £95) That would be a fair test, then add other mics you have if you choose to.

@@DarrellBraunGuitar I understand your point Darrell, but I would assume Positive Grid uses the same internal electronics used in the 40 and MINI. I said this for the Mini review as well: given Spark’s speaker sound issues with the 40, and the way that the majority of people use these amps, it doesn’t do anyone any good to hear this recorded direct. We need to hear the speakers. Everyone knows they sound great when they’re not being played through Spark speakers.

I heard that the 40 was too bass heavy. I have the mini and don't find it too bassy at all. Maybe because of the smaller size, but the mini sounds incredible for its size. But I do agree that this thing needs to be mic'd up. Don't know why Darrell only used the line out. Everybody knows Positive Grid has excellent tones, but we need to hear the actual speaker.
@BuckFlicks

Yeah, I have the Mini and it sounds loads better than the 40 did. I didn’t mean to imply that the Mini had sound issues, but there is no debate that the 40 had serious sound quality problems upon release and both this demo and the Mini demo used direct recording. My point was that both of those reviews should have a miked up demo. Given the history of the sound problems with the 40. The whole demo doesn’t need to be miked. Just give us an idea.

Why test/show only the headphone output?! The only real difference between this and the Mini or 40 is the size of the speaker. You would get the same exact results plugging headphones into a Mini or 40. So this isn't really a review of the Go, it's a review of the Spark software. What I really wanted to know was how the speaker sounds. Obviously not as good as the 40 (or Mini), but is it adequate for jamming/practicing in a small room? How about hooking it to your belt and playing while walking around? What's distinctive about the Go?

They went there before the Spark even existed with a head. It didn't sell well enough to stick around. The Spark & Spark Control not working without the app means you need the 3rd party solution to make this ecosystem look gig-able. Not really going to hurt the likes of the Katana from a practical point of view without some serious changes. I'm a lover of the Spark Mini & Spark control too, but it needs streamlining somewhat for live use.

How about comparing this to other $100 amps in a room? Compare to Fender Frontman 10g, Orange Crush Mini, Mooer 15 watt, Boss Katana Mini, and Vox Mini 3. Everyone is right. Virtually no one is going to use it the way you demoed it. Please just let us hear it as it sounds in your room. Don't mic it. Just use your smartphone. If you do it as a comparison, at least we can hear it next to models that we may have heard in person, so it would be a more valid comparison, as we'd have a point of reference.

Some people have already said it, but this seems a pointless promo rather than a review. Anyone buying the amp is probably using it on its own as a portable practice amp. You can plug any amp into an interface and record directly. The likes of the katana can do exactly the same. The difference here is the portability. People will want to know, if I put it In my bag to travel and plug in for a noodle, how will it sound in the room. That's the entire point of this. The bigger PG amps have exactly the same settings and will sound exactly the same used as an interface. We know what the presets sound like, what does THE AMP sound like. It sounds fantastic and it's my most played amp. This little thing has a single 2" speaker. It won't sound as big nor as loud as even the Spark Mini, but I'd wager it would be surprisingly good for it's size. I have a similarly sized JBL GO2 Bluetooth speaker and while it won't impress an audiophile, it's astonishingly loud and good sounding for such a little box. @@SpiritDK You could be right - I think the software is the sell for Positive Grid regardless of the product, always has been. They had software long before any of the spark amps came out. I also think that its tough for content creators to do really good audio reviews of amps in general because ultimately the sound is going to have to pass through one or more sources before we hear it on the user side. As observers, we have to rely on the integrity of the creator to fully understand the real-time experience. Based on the size of this tiny amp, my assumption would be that it will be tough for anyone to get a good quality representation of the audio experience in a youtube video. I have found Darrell to be honest and transparent in his reviews - I am pretty certain when he reviewed the Spark 40 that he highlighted the issue with the bass response which is a known complaint and even acknowledged that it was hard for him to get used to it and he had to go through a series of settings adjustments to make using the amp tolerable. I think Darrel is just such a positive guy that he may come off as disingenuous in his effort not to be a total jerk. Every creator has their own style and I think he just leans more toward not outwardly disparaging a company/product. I prefer a little more blunt honesty especially considering how much gear costs, but I still enjoy Darrell's videos just the same. ✌✌

I ordered one! I bought a 40 three years ago and have no regrets. Do I use it for gigs? No, although I’ve taken it to open mic’s where it’s super handy. But all in all it’s a couch noodling practice amp. I love how big it sounds. When the mini came out, I thought “why do I need that? I have the 40.”. But this new GO appeals to me for the sheer portability of it. I know it won’t sound as big as my 40, but my guess is it’ll deliver! And of course I’m totally glossing over the fact that this thing is a wicked AI. The 40 is up to over $400 here in Canada now. At $156 Cdn after taxes the Go is a no brainer…

This 'lil amp begs for a wireless system. How does the weight of the cable not constantly pull it off the table and down to the floor? I mean it weighs just 3/4 of a pound. PG should have built -in wireless to the guitar for both the Mini and the Go. Now that would be something.

I scored this for several reasons. Main one being cost for a quality affordable Bluetooth speaker in general. This thing is great quality for the price compared to something as a JBL clip 4 or something close to its size. You can play your guitar over the background music playing on this speaker which is a giant sell for someone who plays alone a lot. It recharges, I NEEDED PEDALS and now i have a massive range to different eqs and amps to be able to play whatever i want with my new PRS guitar. Cant wait to be hitting them saucy jams boys

My only concern with this one is the amp being so light and dragged around by your cable(s) unless you pocket it or hook the amp to your belt. Other than that I wish for one thing considering its size: Please include a BT transmitter at least, Would be really nice to be able to connect wireless from your guitar to your spark amp, like an affordable Yamaha THR 30 II. I would be happy with a half priced one of those in this form factor...even in the Mini.

Agree with most commentators here that a signal out recorded demo is pretty much pointless. Separately, Positive Grid should really consider a change in business model. Their current one relies on bypassing fully the retail chain and doing direct sales only. Because of the logistics, their only option is to always go lower in size, for ease of delivery. If they expanded their business (loads more complexity, I agree) into physical retail, they could change the game, come up with Marshall-sized amps and cabs and achieve world domination quickly (Ok, exaggerating to make a point, but probably a strong place in top 3).

I have to agree with the majority here. What most want to know is how it sounds on its own and not on a line out or headphones. Even just telling us how it sounds in person would help.

This feels was more like an advert than any actual review you have done in the past, even how you sound while talking about it, your hitting all the sales talking points in the first few minutes, promoting all the other products, didnt hear anything negative or realistic as an amp review and used a very misleading test, not mentioning latency etc... tis a shame.....if they forced you to do it this way I would have said no, integrity and authenticity is the best currency on youtube and this just changed my perspective about your reviews

Sorry Darrell - looks like junk. When the cable is heavier than the amp, that's going to be a problem keeping it in one place - additionally there's the issue of having to use a cable into that tiny amp in and of itself. Buy a Fender Mustang Micro or any of the other plugin headphone amps by like Boss or VOX, etc. If you want to play "out loud" there are too many other options that make more sense than this tiny little Spark novelty box. Thanks for the vid though and I truly enjoy all of your content.
