Positive Grid spark vs Spark Mini. which is better? We compare the Positive Grid Spark to the Positive Grid Spark mini with several comparisons to the Boss Katana. There were honorable mentions to the Boss Katana Mini, Orange Crush, Marshall Micro Amp, Blackstar Fly 3 and Line 6 Helix.
What is the best practice amp? Probably the Boss Katana but also the Positve Grid Spark.
Is the Positive Grid Spark Mini good? Yes if you're looking for a little portable amp. It also has the same functionality as the larger Positive Grid spark 40w
Positive Grid vs Boss Katana : they are different. You obtain most of the Positive Grid Spark functionality through your phone whereas you'd need to plug the Boss Katana into a computer via USB to get the most out of it. The Boss Katana has a larger speaker than the Positive Grid Spark so it sounds better. The Boss Katana is also louder than the Positive Grid Spark.

I have both. The Mini presets don’t suit me, but after resetting them on my iPad, I’m very pleased. On the Rhythm setting, (acoustic), turning off the Chorus pedal made it sound very good for acoustic guitar and mandolin. I set up the Custom setting for Lap Steel Guitar. I set up Solo for clean jazz comping. Now those are saved and ready to use. I play a lot in acoustic jams in large rooms. The mini is unobtrusive and only needs a chord to the instrument. I can add volume to whatever I’m playing without blasting out the room. The clean tones are really very good! No noise. Surprisingly full, properly set up.

Very happy I went with the mini. I can pick it up and move to any room or anywhere no problem. That was the whole point of it for me, not to be stuck in front of my studio comp where my amp sims are just to practice.. Thing sounds insane even at quarter volume...

I’ve got a Blues Cube Hot for the more serious playing. But..I just bought a Spark Mini for a few reasons. 1. Bluetooth speaker for the bedroom & for when I’m practicing in there. 2. For being able to sit out in the garden and practice 3. Same sort of reason but just having something really small to take on holiday etc where I can practice easily/play outside.

Boxes like that can often have rattles and ciphers. I'm wondering what people think of the housing and possible rattles and noises? I have an acoustic amplifier and it always buzzes on G3. That frequency is causing something inside to vibrate. I've taken it apart and tightened the screws and it's still annoying me.

For me Spark beats Katana. Mostly because of the integrated pedal effects. I stopped playing 20 years ago and purged most of my gear so now that I'm starting up again having one piece of gear that covers so much ground is a bargain. Of course, I don't gig so that's out of my criteria.

The Katana requires no pedals and has way more built in pedal effects than the spark ever will and can be used with a mobile app. This video is a terrible representation of the Katana.

To me this is a really cool practice amp or travel amp. The technology still hasn’t replaced a good tube amp and pedal board. It’s interesting different solutions people have to playing guitar. I really want to plug in and play. What is most interesting to me how knob turners dial in tones. I learn the most from these products from looking at the the downloadable sounds.

@Lovell93
@Lovell93 Год назад
@@ahmedtoma6963 There's a couple tricks to the bass. Personally, I haven't had an issue. I keep mine(Spark 40) on a stand raised about 30-40 inches off the ground and it sounds fantastic. The tones truly are amazing. There's also the EQ pedal now! It takes away your mod pedal but it's pretty neat if you have trouble with bass. I find the bass only really bothers me on the clean setting, but the EQ pedal cleans it right up. I haven't tried the Mini but I'm sure it's decent. I'm sure not as full of a sound but still good. Personally, I will just stick with the 40. It's perfect for me as someone who only plays for their own personal pleasure or at a family/friend gathering.

I guess the Mini is all about convenience. Like being able to have a bit of sound when playing your electric guitar in a room where you don't have room for an amp or don't want an amp to clutter up the room with cables, etc. I can totally see the Mini sitting on the bookshelf by the couch with me noodling it gently while the kids are thrashing the rest of the room. The Mini might actually be the biggest improvement to guitar playing parents. Or parents in general...

lol....you literally just described the Spark 40 to a 'T" small, clean, compact.. looks great on a shelf or table top plus has that whole blue tooth speaker feature making it useable way more often... the mini really makes no sense at $200 when a spark is $250 but,........at $125 its perfect and quite viable as a travel amp, or if you must have the most capable tiny amp made.....but then you start looking at a NuX Mighty Plug 2 and it all starts making less sense... I see the market for these being Spark fans and people with more money and G.A.S. than is probably healthy ;-) and of course all the You tubers promoting them...the Mini presale has been going for what 6-8 weeks now and they still haven't even sold all 1500 of the preorder production allocation..?. no wonder I keep getting " Spark Mini Is Here" Emails EVERY week from PG ...

@@RaptorV1USA I guess you're right, but the Mini (being battery powered) allows me to be less tied to a power outlet, so that's one cable less. Also, the smaller footprint actually makes a difference for me. I did compare the Spark and the Mini for a long time and decided I basically just need a very compact movable sound source. I know the Spark has bluetooth speaker capabilities, but I don't need it. So, in this case less is more - at least for me.

I have the Bias FX2 app on my iPad and use it through an iRig HD2 interface with headphones. It does everything I need so I don’t see the need for the amp unless you want to use the speaker. I Own a Boss Katana 50 and a spark 40. IMHO i Love my spark, but is way to heavy in the lower end. I usually have to use the blue EQ pedal in every tone I download. Part of the problem is that we have profesional musicians evaluating an amp that is not meant for professionals. Of course they’re going to be lukewarm about it. It’s meant for me. A beginner guitar player who does not own pedals. I don’t know anything about pedals but I feel I can learn about them with the Spark without having to buy them first.

Might I add at the price point for the spark you wont find anything close in its class. These guys expect this amp to be all encompassing but they are not critiquing the amp based on what it actually is intended for. In reality the sparks do so much more than they lead you to believe. You dont need your phone to use the spark. You can preset up to 8 tones in addition to the presets. Not to mention add the airstep and you have expanded the capabilities. I can guarantee neither one of these guys plays at a level that they would be limited by that setup if they knew how to work it and what it was capable of.

Big amps and speakers aren't for better tone, they're for more volume, and are a holdover from days when venues couldn't be relied on to provide PA systems. Silly little speaker? You have any idea how many great guitarists recorded with a mic'ed pignose? Is got a SILLIER, LITTLER speaker in it. Ace Frehley's tone secret was that the stacks of marshalls on stage that he stood in front of were decoys, and he had a tiny fender champ cranked up to complete saturation backstage with a mic on it's "silly little speaker" You should know better.
