I like to interact with the channel because i know how important it is to you and also the algorithms. Your channel would have popped up for me for that same reason. I keep saying these same things but they are so true. You cover so many era's and genres ranging from indie to blockbuster. You always come up with great points but you are so fun to watch. A lot of energy but so relatable. As far as horror films go I've never been a fan of watching them, but I watch a large number of analysis pieces on them because I am much more fascinated by the production aspects and cultural impacts that they have. I save your videos as workout videos so will only catch this one later but, whether I have seen the movie or not, it's always an interesting and engaging watch. Thanks guys.

You made a few very interesting points ,guys. Well,I met Mr.Zulawski in Warsaw in 1993 when he was travelling with Sophie Marceau,his wife at the time. He talked a lot about this film ,he visited our Academy ,gave a few lectures.Sophie received a birthday gift from us,a bottle of Sobieski vodka-which was the most exclusive vodka available at the time across Europe. She refused to drink it alone so we visited her in her hotel apartment,Mr Zulawski joined us later on,we drank and discussed art throughout the night. He was a great man. And Possession has always been my number one movie. The ultimate masterpiece of horror.

The ultimate Sam Neil trilogy is Possession, In the Mouth of Madness, event Horizon, and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. The latter is to make you psychologically recover for the first 3.

Nice review of one of the strangest yet most intellectually challenging horror movies ever made. The always lovely Adjani won Best Actress at Canne deservedly for her dual role and Neil matches her every step with an astonishing raw perf. "Kramer vs Kramer meets pod people lol . that's pretty good" 😆✌

This is an amazing film with some shocking scenes and great acting. The Berlin location is so unique and the horror is genuinely disturbing. Although it is an incredibly beautiful and stunningly scary I have never watched it again. I am sure I will at some point but it will really have to be the right moment.

This film made me feel sick afterwards. Not just from creature effects but also the relationship the movie is about. It's AWESOME
@WildFungus

yeah the movie is about the 'end of the relationship' and the theming holds true for every facet of the work. from the setting to context of the Wall, the marriage, it's just wild. The most similar movie I think is The Brood by cronenberg but I think this one blows it out of the water.

I recommend "Knightriders," a drama film by the late, great George A. Romero about a traveling renaissance troupe where the knights ride motorcycles instead of horses. Some actors from his previous films appear in this, and Tom Savini has a lead role.

Check out "Under the Silver Globe". It's a (very) weird sci-fi film that Zulawski wasn't able to finish due to the Polish government messing with the production. An unfinished version has been released. Quite the endurance test.

All of Żuławski's films are hysterical and he has a certain style, which doesn't resonate with everyone. But my god, he was a masterful filmmaker and a true artist. I just love his work. So thought-provoking.

Indeed great film, it has things to say about personal relationships, but the director added all those surreal elements that make it more complex in concept and interpretation, but what really makes it work is the performances, the cast and director did a great job portraying this characters, they feel real but also have strange moments out of reality that are very well made. Is a special film that deserves more recognition.

Helluva review fellas. It's an astonishing movie n you covered it as well as anybody could. I think all the things you each said are true. Finally picked it up last year n watched it 5 times. ya jus gotta go with it. Unease to the point that it's beautiful. Cold yet operatic. Manic with a stillness. No wonder Lynch loves the Poles. Stunner. Cheers for coverin it. Nice one x

I saw this back in the day before it was put on the video nasties list. I didn't like it or understand it at the time. Now I like it, but I still don't really understand it! Having been through a traumatic marriage break up, I can see how it reflects the emotions and confusion involved. But my God, I don't think I can really get the reasoning behind the Lovecraftian human clone!!!

There's a great Mexican film made in 2016 called "La región salvaje" or "The Untamed" in English which I highly recommend. It's kind of a re-imagining of this film or really more just taking the concept of the tentacled sex beast more literally and going in a different direction with it. It still has the duality of psychological and sociological drama mixed with horror, mixing in themes of infidelity and so on much like "Possession" does. It's directed by Amat Escalante. A great up and coming Spanish writer and director.

Wow. I knew Sam Neil did some crazy stuff, but this takes the cake. I'm not even at the halfway mark and I'm disturbed AF. This is like Eraserhead. This is like Naked Lunch. This is ln the House of Madness. Eraserhead because of the wife and the creature on the bed. Naked Lunch because it seems unreal to the watcher, but it's demonstrated in a humanitarian sense. It's like In the House of Madness for the surreal atmosphere where you don't know what's happening, but believe EVERYTHING. IS. FOR SURE. HAPPENING. This is tight Cinema. I need to watch this.

I would define this film as rather art-house. All Zulawski's films have same crazy tone and similar themes. But only this one has horror element or this quasi-fantastical element. Zulawski was also influenced by Dostoevski's work and it can explained this constant state of exaltation and erratic behavior that characters possess in his films as Dostoevski's characters behave themselves in grotesque manner, in exaggerated way. And theme of doppelganger also can be found in Dostoevski's work. Isabelle Adjani later called Possession an emotional pornography. So she is not a fan of her own work in this film. I can see some merit in her criticism though. As many film critics also criticized Zulawski for his overwhelming tendency for over-the-top emotional escapades. It's rather difficult to watch many of his films one after another. As they all have characters behaving in crazy exalted manner. There is element of absurdity in his films.

Just watched Possession thanks to your review, which I watched afterwards. My positives are: it had a really interesting concept, and the camera work was great. Loved the one-shot movement of the camera following the characters on screen. Just sublime. My negatives: everything else, pretty much. The actors were overacting so much, which completely took me out of the film. And the less said about the atrocious dialogue... Yeah, didn't like it. But I'm glad I watched it so I could watch your great review, as usual.

this movie, the greatest art house horror film ever. If the monster is a 'representation of her' anything, that's fine and intentional but also the text of the movie is she's fucking a squid. They are not mutually exclusive and are both major threads of what is happening here. This movie is an onion. Much like with David Lynch the Director has gone out of his way spread disinformation or otherwise not give definitive answers about 'what is going on' because it is inviting you to make your own interpretations. Which is why it is so damn compelling.
