An extremely loud boom was heard throughout Utah this morning, shaking homes and alarming many throughout the state. Multiple residents captured something streaking across the sky on camera, which some experts believe is a meteor.

I have seen many many meteors .. at night, far away in the atmosphere. Never have they made noise that could be heard across a 200 mile distance and be seen by the naked eye during the middle of the day. Just sayin’ .. this is unusual.

About 8 to 10 years ago, here in Portland Oregon area (i was working in Tigard at the time), one night while sitting facing East by NE, a meteor came hurling out of the West by SW, SUPER DUPER BRIGHT , it was my first time seeing something THAT BRIGHT in the nighttime sky. It literally scared me, there was no accompanying BOOM (that i notice). I had seen one about a year or two before,Not As Bright , and watch it come apart in the sky, it burned different color as it fell (spectacular PINKS, BLUES, ORANGES, WHITE), BOTH lasted a good while too. But not long enough to snatch my phone out and record.

I live in Utah I didn't see it but I definitely heard it. It was early in the morning like 8:30 it was loud. People recorded their windows shaking at the same time as the loud noise. I've seen meteors before but never heard that loud boom.

It was a bolide meteor courtesy of the annual Perseid Meteor Shower - the biggest meteor shower of the year. Over the next few nights, go out after midnight and look up to see the display.

@@jeannemarie5908 That’s a statement that should have been a question. Meteor showers don’t just stop while it is daylight in the Western Hemisphere and then turn back on the next night. It’s happening during the daytime too. You can’t see meteor showers during the daytime. (Unless one is big enough to enter the lower atmosphere - which is rare).

I live in Texas and I've seen a lot of debris in the sky over the past few weeks. What most people don't understand is that there is a lot of stuff up there and it sometimes falls to earth . Just be happy it isn't a planer killer .

I live in Maryland and I like to take late night walks through me very peaceful and dark suburban community outside Baltimore and I have been lucky enough to have seen two long lasting meteors streak across the sky within the past month. None made sounds, but were bright, colorful and spectacular!

We had a fighter jet fly so low over our house today it sounded like it scraped our metal roof...it was around 2:30pm CT I'm in central to southern Texas.....granted I didn't see a fighter jet all we heard was the loud noise...we assume it was a fighter jet going somewhere in a very big hurry!!

It woke me up around midnight 2 loud booms a minute apart, got up and looked out side saw nothing or nobody moving, this was in Las Vegas Nevada. No one else heard it. It sounded like an explosion. Than I read about a meteor passing thru. I guess it was the sound barrier when it passed thru our atmosphere, but why 2 booms?

The meteor boom happened 8-13. Two years ago Angel Moroni's horn fell from the Salt Lake Temple on 3-18 during an earthquake.

Hearing them is very rare. I only ever heard one, back in the 80s a weird roar with a sonic boom didn't know what it was till it made the newspaper. Hearing meteors is NOT a daily event
