I posted a comment on the site where you had a RU-vid video explaining your search for "Anna". It read as follows: "This is probably the best video you have made of your exploits with a metal detector, Brad! It is amazing that finding such a small item could 'open the book' to such a HUGE story. Thank you for all your hard work and being such an inspiring person!!"

I really can't say enough about this young man, especially the video where he was talking about people saying that he returned his findings to the family that own the land. I appreciate a honest person like him, it's people like him that I know would be an awesome friend, because I try hard to be myself. God Bless you sir and happy diggings

Brad, Love the program. I would like to see a video on your finds and the infamous wall you often refer to when talking on your collection or where a recently found artifact will most likely be displayed . Have you ever traveled to western Ma. to do any detecting? Also , the music you use on the show is perfect and so original. Is this your compilation? Well done Mr. Martin John Graham

Your hand movements over the holes you dig reminds me of a kid show I used to watch many years ago. The Soupy Sales Show. There were 2 puppets that were just hands in a sleeve that looked like dog paws. White Fang and Black Tooth were their names and all you saw was their hand movement and gestures as they spoke.

Great find. I’m in NE Florida and a few years back I found what I thought was a mud coated can lid. Turned out to be a silver Scottish medallion engraved on both sides with numerous Scottish icons, phrases and mottos. I have shared photos with numerous museums, universities and historians in Scotland, UK and US. Among the engravings is MY family’s motto since 1306. It has been on the cover of American Digger and another article on it is being submitted. Again, you have an amazing find.

Brad, that was really cool. It must have been a feeling like I had when I found an unrestored early daguerrotype of my great-great-great-grandfather who did in 1848, online. I had been searching for years, and one day I search for it last July, and there it was. I now have seven generations of photographs of my family going all the way back to Nicholas who was a millwright, born in 1798, near Manchester, England. Brad, you have the perseverance it takes to be really, really good at what you do. You have a real skill at telling stories, and admitting your foibles make you all the more relatable, good job man.

@@snickers2877 If you have an image on glass it is an ambrotype rather than a daguerreotype. Daguerreoptypes are on a metal plate covered in a thin coat of silver. Daguerreotypes can be "restored" in that their cases, cover glass and preserver can be repaired or replaced. There are chemical techniques that make a faded daguerreotype temporarily more visible but these do long term damage and should be avoided.

RE: that beautiful little silver tag... The design of a child holding a bird was used in painted portraits in Europe as a symbol of innocence; sometimes the child would be shown kissing the bird, or allowing it to take grain from their lips. Why this meant innocence I don't know, but it was very cute and I can think of four or five paintings with just that sort of thing in it. I have to feel sorry for whoever lost it, but I'm glad you found it. Loved that little sickle, btw; looked like a pruning sickle.

Great video Brad! You very fortunate and blessed to have such historic areas to detect! You find some awesome relics! I also love how you utilize some of your finds in your bags and such. The closest I can come to that is cleaning up, restoring, whatever you want to call it, rehanging a couple axes and hatchets. One of my favorite activities is cooking. I use my axes and especially one of my hatchets to cut the wood I use to cook. It kinda gives me the feeling of completing a cycle, I guess. I would love to see a follow-up on that pendant. Ok. I'm hiding this here, because it's not a happy thought. I suspect the Silver Medallion, is to commorate the birth of a child, that did not survive. Birds symbolize peace in mourning culture, but this could also symbolize the freedom of soul out of a tortured body, or the Heavenly Father has 'his eyes upon the sparrow- his eyes are upon us all.' Across the Pond, there would be a small painting, or photo of the child; instead they have a crude carving in the silver. This baby was very important and cherished to have such an expensive piece commissioned in Silver, instead of pewter. NO! I don't suspect that was on her coffin, but that is in such good shape, it wasn't worn like Mourning jewelry in the late Victorian Era, as opposed to this Colonial/Georgian era piece. I would suspect it was in a box to protect it, but that would have rotted away more than 100 years ago. What an amazing find, and the two colonial coppers! Just astounding. Thanks for brining us along.

My guess on the silver medallion is that it was from a father, given to his daughter. The bird on the string represents the day that the father lets his daughter fly away, possibly on her wedding day. The man is sitting on his daughters hope chest. Just my opinion. It is a very special find.

I believe it probably more likely it would be on the day of her birth. Since the bird is on a string and has her birth date... If it was her wedding day I don't think it would be naming her as "Miss" and I think the image would be releasing the bird... IMO...

Love your video's. That tool is a form of scythe, it's small so it might have been for a child. I used one as a kid on the farm, it would have a long handle on it. You used it by putting the blade, (the sharp part is on top facing the handle), behind the weeds you wanted to cut and pulling towards yourself, with a short jerking motion. I weeded bean fields with one for years. When I got older I used a larger one with a longer handle and did more rows at a time that way. My Grandfather would pay me by the row. (I'd blow it at the county fair) I loved looking back after a days work and seeing how different the field looked and how good they would look at the end of the year compared with ones not weeded or done with machinery or herbicides. Me and my cousins were the last generation to do it by hand on our family's farm and even then it was rare and done more just so we had money for the county fair and so we would win prizes for largest harvests and stuff like that. The good old days, were hard but fun.

Perhaps over 227 years ago, the occupant(s) of the acreage may have been metal smiths. Both brass ingot and silver medallion located in the same area? The etched images on the medallion are heavily suggestive of the death of a loved one. These neo-classical Christian motifs were very poplar in memorializing loved ones, in America, after the revolutionary war. The naked child(cherub) symbolizing innocence is tethered to a bird(dove?) meaning eternal life as in a winged soul tethered for eternity. The child sits on a box tomb that is decorated with an urn and is over shadowed by a willow which is symbolic of profound grief. The other side with Miss Anna’s BD of May 5, 1794 is engraved with some skill and almost looks more finished than the reverse side. At the bottom there is engraved a bird(dove)resting in branches perhaps signifying peace and eternal rest. Many have commented here that this medallion may celebrate the birth of a child, but I suggest that based on the engraved imagery that this little memento perhaps suggests the tragic death of a child. The fact that there is no death date could mean the child was born/died same day? One can only speculated. I really thought this video was excellent. Thank-you,Brad!

I love the tag, very cool! The sickle with the handle, I look forward to seeing it finished. You just had a really great day! Even though the finds were 20 minutes apart, they were all really cool! Thank you for another wonderful video!

It is not an 'f' it is called a 'long s' and if you see it in printed form you will see that they are different. Great finds though!

Yes! It helped prevent the ink from pooling and making the print look wrong.

Hello from Australia Brad. That silver medallion you found looks very much like our colonial love tokens which are sometimes found on convict sites in NSW. Late 1700s, or early 1800s is the same era as well.

I like it when you show your find all cleaned up, but you usually just do it with coins. Love to see them all. Happy for your silver find.🥰

Wow, what a fantastic find Brad! It's a holy grail if the county or village kept good records on its citizens. I have to agree with you this is the best find I've ever seen you dig out of ground.

I went to a local coin store last week to show them my 1796 Likerty Half Dime I found in a corn field, and there was a nice man there selling some silver coins and he was all excited to talk detecting. Doesn't do it but he mentioned how he loves watching Green Mountain metal detecting. I said the guy from VT? he said yes. we chatted for a while and I mentioned I met you once in a treasure expo. haha so cool man. Love the stuff and the people we meet. small world. Amazing Silver birth tag.
