The one and only mod I've ever done to Terraria was replace the fart sound with the normal Cloud In a Bottle sound because I had gotten two rather early Cloud In a Bottles AND an early Whoopie Cushion but the fart sound got very old very quickly after I got my Tinkerer's Workshop.
Oh this item was definitely NOT forgotten in my play through. Let's just say, every single one of my friends chests may have been violated. Throughout the entire play through.

Not gonna lie, the jump from memorable or simply powerful weapons to extremely obscure items was a great decision. There’s THOUSANDS of items in the game with so much love poured into them, and its a shame we don’t see them often!
Autopause is perfect for protecting you against this in the No Traps and Get Fixed Boi seeds, as the gas trap doesn't do off yet. This also lets you retrieve the gas trap in its full state so you can do whatever you want with it later.
The refill is probably a reference to the legend of Zelda a link to the past, in which you can throw an empty bottle into a wishing well and get a bottle full of green potion in return
It feels like people forget about how blood moons also affect spawn rates underground. I'm not saying it's better to farm for whoopie cushions though, as worms are quite a bit rarer than zombies (usually) Oh and yes I was aware of this before, but only due to some random other youtube videos.
I used this trap like 20 times with my friends , everyone in the server had his private chest with items that we dont want to give to others , so when they were somewhere on the map i tped to base and put one in the chest. I acted afk and waited till they open it , when they opened it i laughed really hard and they were angry. I love terraria

I had no idea this item even existed. But it seems to me that this item is meant for messing with your friends, sort of building off the Whoopie Cushion's "Might annoy others" flavor text, and has no actual use beyond being a troll to your friends.
Me and my friends did a Terraria run a while back, and for some reason, we were all dedicated to building traps to kill each other the entire time, everything from explosive traps, boulder traps, hoiks into lava, the lot were used, and one of the things that made out item storage infuriating to use, was the gas traps that were constantly being planted and reset and thrown into various chests. Fun times! xD
Wait whoopie-cushions are a rare drop? I get them almost every time on my first few worm kills on my playthroughs, so I assumed they were a common drop. Although I'm not complaining as the whoopie cushion can be made into a really nice alternative for the bundle of balloons, especially synergizes well with panic necklace!
You can actually make a mimic trap wich mostly works like gas trap: You put mimic key in a chess and just open another chess without closing other than when you close it first chess with mimic key will not turn to mimic. When you open it again the key will be there and when you close it it will turn to a mimic good for multiplayer
But the players would pretty easily notice the key when they open the chest and take it out or brace themselves, no? You don't just open and close a chest for no reason without acknowledging it's contents
i had three of these traps strewn about in storage in my multiplayer world. it never killed and i too would forget about these later and well once my friends got ahold of them it was just chaos, and i never got them back. still good fun tho
I placed this into one of my friends chests today lol. I sadly didn't get to see his reaction but he was very surprised to just get bombed out of nowhere lol
id imagine this is useful for map builders, creating low level traps that wont outright kill, but create a "timer" for them to navigate some puzzle/platform area to get to a source of healing before time runs out
Shimmer is so OP but I can never find any in my worlds. There are so many different things that can be obtained with shimmer and are either good or bad.
@@Attaboyla01 You know they're generally on the same side of the jungle and spawn near the ocean underground? Apparently they don't generate close to the underworld, from a little search on the wiki I made (btw if you want more specific areas where it can generate, you can check the wiki. I think it'll help you better than a comment could)
If you feel like someone's been tampering with your stuff, the spent gas would tip ya off that someone's been pilfering your chests. Even moreso in a Dead Man's chest with maximum overkill.
I have a weird relationship with the zombie arm. Every plathrough I’ve done with friends or not I always get a legendary zombie arm drop. It’s usually the first one I get but it’s just an odd thing.
I imagine its effective against Eater of Worlds / Brain of Cthulu if you can get it off on enough of their parts. That + a couple flare gun shots will do quite a lot combining those 2 DOTs.
Gotta love how it just doesn't work when you play with autopause on. Or at least, that's why I assume it never caused me any issues on my legendary zenith seed playthrough.
I haven’t heard of the gas trap in a long time so it brings back a lot of memories of trying to get it when I heard it was one of the best items in terraria

The best use for this item I can think of is placing it in a chest your going to turn into a biome mimic, activating the trap and then triggering the mimic spawn so it gets poisoned, can they even be poisoned? Upon checking, poison is one of the like 8 debuffs they are completely immune to so uh, put it in your friends chest (assuming you have friends, they play terraria and play terraria with you of course)
With this thing I got a seriously high number of Npc kills, mainly the Painter, but it took me way to many tries to get a singular paintballgun. I wonder if mechanics like luck have any impact on the victim of the gas trap
If it gives you Venom instead of Poison, this trap can be very deadly and need immediate attention because that health is declining fast and will 100% kill a player if its 2 min long (need nurse to heal).
The wiki claims, and your own video shows, that there is no initial burst of damage. It simply poisons you. Supposedly, if you wear a Bezoar (or something with else its effect), you become completely immune to these traps. You should probably double check that, because you said that it does cause an initial burst of damage before inflicting the poison, and accessories probably wouldn't block that, which would become relevant if a player has low HP in a GFB or "no traps" world, or is simply going for a no hit run.
"The Woopie Cushion has a Measly 4% drop rate in expert mode" Tell that to me 1 year ago getting many a woopie cushion throughout my playthroughs... And may or may not have used the trolling portion on a friend or two (before Fart in a Jar was crafted)
it's too bad it's only limited to chests, as if it was able to be used as an engineering block it could be useful for defense or farms obviously there's better methods like spike balls or lava, but the option would've been great
I knew about it because i have a journey mode charakter that i spent very long on to research everything with part of the game at a time got pretty far before i lost motivation and i found the item in the list of shimmer items XD
The goggles that let you see Echo are nice but shove an Echo Monument thing on your cosmetics- it'll do the same thing without taking an active accessory slot if you use Vanity Slots instead. A bit of an obscure use, but if you got an Invisible Build going on, very handy.
I’m surprised it doesn’t open all canisters at once if several are placed in the same storage bin. If the debuff could be stacked, that would definitely increase its creative usability as well as trolling capability (something we all know Red loves).
actually the fart in a jar made from a whoopie cushion is actually one of the best double jump bottle items, only beaten by the rarish sandstorm in a bottle, so it’s not entirely useless
Sort of. You have to unlock the goblin tinker to even make fart in a jar and by then you most likely have a lot of other options on the table. So you're right about not entirely useless but really close to being entirely useless.
i don't know why they don't naturally generate outside of a couple secret seeds. would be funny if it showed up randomly, maybe even dead man's chests to add an extra troll to those who notice all the traps.
I started playing terraria again after years recently. And just by accident have trown whoopie cusion into shimmer. I wasnt really sure wtf was gas trap.
While me and a friend were playing get fixed boi I got hit by one of these and was on 1 health for a whole 2 min, he then proceeded to try and give me food but left clicked instead of right clicked and well we both got a laugh out of that before a cave bat swooped in to demolish us both.
"This previously pretty useless item" ..I mean. The second bust double jump in the game isn't anything to scoff at. I don't like using it, but when I get the opportunity to do so, it's hard to pass up.
