May 16, 2024 Post game recap - New York Liberty vs Indiana Fever 

I've been watching this league since 1997. This is what the W looks like, folks. It's no joke. Never has been. There are mambas all across the league. Great showing by the Liberty. People can blame the Fever coach and Clark's teammates all they want, but the Fever will be losing games they're supposed to lose at this point. Put some respect on the their opponent's names and on the league in general.

This is why I can't understand why some people thought CC is better than Paige. Bueckers game is more all-around, and better suited for the W. Paige welcomes contact and the mid-range, CC runs from it. Is CC brand of basketball exciting, heck yeah, but it's not gonna be as easy to do in the W.

I'm not a Caitlin Clark fan, but I am a Caitlin Clark supporter. Caitlin Clark fans, don't panic. I can VIVIDLY remember Kobe as a rookie on the NBA courts and the announcers ripping his play ability apart. Kobe eventually came around, and found his way, same thing could happen for Caitlin Clark.

I don't think fans expect CC & the Fever to win every game or even most, but they do expect to see her make some 3s & they want to see her fast paced game play & assists. That was what was fun about her game to me. Yes she made some impressive shots, but the way she was able to set up her teammates & speed up the game was what made it exciting to watch for me.

Totally agree with you on Grace Berger! It seems like CC plays better when the two of them are out there together...they seem to feed off of each others quickness.

Sorry, I didn’t watch live, so my comment is a bit late-Quita, I think you are dead right about Grace Berger starting. When she is on the floor there is more life to the team and better ball movement. She is a smart player, a strong player, and a good facilitator.

Something is up with AB. I wonder what her 02 level is... She seems much slower than last year. she just doesn't seem to be herself.

I saw a lot of people in the chat complaining about Sides having Clark off the ball. I'm assuming they watched the game but the thing is that she was on the ball a lot but the Liberty were giving her problems with the ball so Sides had her play some off the ball and then Clark would go and get the ball. I've also seen people saying Sides is accustomed to losing. How many more games did the Fever win last year compared to the previous and how close were many of the games they lost? Indiana just played two of the best teams in the league. They have the hardest schedule to start the season. Please pump the breaks.

I heard JJ tell the team at the end of the game, "That was the way to play defense," and yeah good defense, esp. Stewie, B, JJ. and Stewie found her offense. re Clark, I want her to do well because that'll be good for for the W, but it could take her a while... Taurasi was right, she was just keeping it real. I hope Clark needing time to find her footing won't turn people off to the W, with all the hype around her. bright spots for the Fever tonight: Berger, Samuelson. they need Mitchell to get well, ASAP

In a way it’s a good thing that they are facing all the harder teams first because it’s making them have to work harder so by the time to get to the more average teams they will be able to be able to win and win without having to work as hard…it’s practically practice and learning as they play as they go throughout the season.

If Caitin hits her 3s and logo shots it won't matter if the fever lose, the fans will stay. If no CCs oohs and aahs, the fans will walk away.

I think I need to print out all the girls on the teams pictures. lol I don't know them all yet so I feel lost when you start mentioning names of people going back and fourth. Danggg not gon lie have to be honest the Fever look worst than I expected. There is a lot to cover here. A.Boston needs to really work on her post move versatility, foot work, looks out of shape, needs to finish her layups and just better around the rim period no excuse not to have a double double every game.If coach doesn’t adjust line ups, have a more in depth offensive and defensive schemes she may be gone soon for a coach who is more seasoned. Cc has to get stronger and stop turning the ball over but that def will take a lil time. Barely no chemistry with this team they almost look better last year but than this year it’s still super early but in this league time is precious.the liberty only problem are the aces so not too worried about them great team win on there end but the fever omg they looking slow and un athletic

TO/FOR CAITLI/FEVER FANS: give them time. Boston is only in her Second year in the pros, CC22 only her first couple of games as pro, maybe the rest are newish? DO. NOT. BE. DISHEARTENED: it took some top notch NBA players, not only weeks, months nor a season, but years before they, well, started winning Championships. GIVE THEM TIME to get to know and trust one another. Caitlin is the reason why most, even haters, are watching, keep supporting her in every way. I Guarantee you most people in the comments all over socials would have never known the Other players' names they comment on, if not for CC22.

Well she was basically sitting right behind Christie Sides and at times when the camera did show her you could tell she wasn’t happy with what was taking place on the court. I have a feeling this might just be happening or at least maybe an assistant coach/just for CC.

There was a flash of potential in the 3rd of what the team can be. It’s all about progression now.

Caitlin was stagnant just like the rest of the team. You have to move off the ball, learn to create your own shot without 3 screens.

I knew the Fever would be bad but they were awful. I can’t believe someone thought it was good to broadcast most of the games. This is embarrassing 😳

Thank you for your content. You do a great job covering Women's College basketball and the WNBA. The WNBA needs to play more games on the weekend and only one game Monday - Thursday. That would help with attendance and tv viewership. They also shouldn't play more than three games in a week and no more than ten games a month. They are going to get the players hurt do to lack of rest.

I said it before and I'll say it again. Both sides of the CC debate need to relax and be realistic. Nobody should get fired after a handful of games, especially with a young team. They need time to develop. CC still has star/MVP potential. She needs time to learn and grow.

Liberty is preparing to match up with the Las Vegas Aces. Fever was a casualty of the battle to come between Aces and Liberty.

I'm curious as to what ppl thought was gonna happen. The learning curve on top of ppl disrespecting the league by crowning a rookie, it's a target on Clark & they are going to try & break her. Deny, pick up 94ft, be physical, make her defend etc

I’m glad Cc didn’t do 10 TO. She did what I wanted her to do, which is minimize her Turn overs. Next game, CC definitely has to shoot 15 or more shots, no exceptions

The Liberty are like ordering an expensive cake from an established caterer with all your favorite flavors while the Fever are unmixed ingredients fresh in the bowl waiting to be whipped together - and tonight they just got plain ol' whopped. This feels sacrilege to say but if the plan is to bring Kelsey along slowly off the bench then I think I'd rather see E Dub coming off the bench with her and start Grace instead so there's a bit more size defensively in the first five without losing the secondary ball handling to help alleviate the inevitable pressure teams put on CC. Grace showed some promising chemistry with CC in the first few games and obviously E Dub and Kels have chemistry so it might be a better option to start the season until Caitlin gets the W equivalent to sea legs under her and Kels gets back to full health, then you start Clark/Mitchell and figure out who is the best fit to start with them at the 3 Edit: I guess I should've listened a bit longer before I commented! 😆 I'm 100% with everything you said about the starting lineup.

I'm new to the wnba but I'm not new to sports. I believe we will be able to judge the coach and the team once the season is over.

Couldn’t agree more with the take on seeing Grace Berger at point instead of Erica wheeler, and I love Erica wheeler! But she isn’t a true 1 like you said. She holds the ball a bit too long every possession. She’s invaluable as a vet for the team, but let Grace get the minutes esp while Kelsey is hurt

I don't think most people are considering that teams were already probably planning to shut down Boston since she was ROTY last season, Jonquil and Breanna were on her head all game. I'm sure that teams watched March Madness and were studying Clark's game and saw where she was lacking and are being physical with her, and she is feeling that physicality. The Fever coach is CLEARLY frustrated, and her pressers are TERRIBLE. I don't think it's ever good for the coach to suggest your team doesn't have fight in them. Does she not know that fans, players and coaches watch the pressers and feed off of that? Keep in mind that training camp started May 3rdish? Final roster May 13ish? There is no way that the Fever has developed chemistry in that time frame. This was the Vets putting these youngters jet setting on notice. If they don't adjust after the next game this weekend, then it's a coaching problem, if they stay close it's a chemistry problem. We'll see....

It's the second game of the season and the Fever have been together for three weeks. Cut them some slack, relax and enjoy watching the improvement. As for Lisa Bluder being in attendance, she's there to support Caitlin and I would suggest she was also there to give Christie Sides some input regarding how you manage someone like Clark. She's not looking for another job.

The scheduler of the games in the WNBA did not help Clark win by getting the Fever top-notch teams as opponents. Losing games will translate to a lesser audience eventually.

You're correct. The Fever is not very good, and Clark alone is not the answer. She's not in Iowa anymore. Bluder can't reverse the Fever's woes. I'm glad I'm not Jan at Iowa.

I have been saying since the beginning that it’s going to take time. That the entire team needs more then two weeks to build up chemistry and conditioning especially which takes not just weeks but months but playing year after year which is why the teams with the oldest vets and teammates with the longest remaining roster that stays on the same team ends up with the best chemistry. That’s why teams like Birds Celtics and Magics Lakers had some of the best team chemistry with some of the best passing in the NBA where with the Celtics they are still used today as study material for other teams to emulate. This is also why no roomie just goes into a league and ends up winning a championship…it always takes years before that happens. It took MJ 6 seasons, it took LeBron 8 years, Kobe 3 years, it took curry 6 years and so on. This is the norm. The only rookies that win championships in their rookie years are the ones that are lucky to be drafted onto an already championship team. For example if the Aces this year win again the rookies like Kate Martin will be a championship winner even if she really didn’t play a roll in that championship win.

When Berger came in the pace picked up and even the players seemed more upbeat on the court. Then she was pulled and the slow frustration started again. Like your ideas Quita.

I like your content, but I often don't click on them because of the length. If you would add some 5-10 minute videos it would probably increase the number of people viewing your channel.

CC, AB will come around. Im a big Iowa and Indiana fan. This is what CC expected. She knows she's learning. Thats what she keeps saying. The whole team is learning to gel. Only two weeks of preseason..... patience. The WNBA is tough as it should be. Growing pains is natural. Loved the 3rd quarter when Berger was put in ..she gelled with CC and better passing.

This schedule is brutal for Fever. Also CC is now playing way more games back to back than before. I missed the game last night but I saw stats, CC had the same stats pretty much as Courtney Vand., so I think that is pretty good.

Caitlin just have to adjust, she’ll be ok. I think she would be a little more Pro Ready if she played in the SEC or ACC in college. Especially SEC. It’s WAY more physical and athletic than the Big 10. She would be more familiar with fighting through contact and the athleticism.

In the stats sheets can you explain the +/ - columne

Plain and Simple, CC is not the player some of you thought she was. She will be nothing but a role player/spot-up shooter. She has no mid-range game. She cannot shoot off the dribble. Will only shoot when moving to her left. The scouting report been out since the NCAA Championship game.

My question though is what happens to sides of the Fever keeps losing…I know Iowa fans keeps saying Bluder but would another coach come in if she can’t get this team on a winning path?

Caitlin shot 1 for 7 from three. A player must shoot better.

Caitlin seemed like the best player on the floor yesterday (Besides Breanna, obviously). When she is allowed to play point and get out and run, it started to feel like that old Iowa magic where something exciting was going to happen. I think the Fever's ability to rebound and finish around the basketball is AWFUL, and that isn't Caitlin's fault. She also had some beautiful passes that were dropped. I have no stake in these games, but my eyes tell me that Caitlin is going to be a very good pro

I agree with you that Erica can’t be in the starting line up…it’s not working but instead of Grace Burger I would love to see Femi in the game more instead of AB right now because right now AB just isn’t showing that she can handle being in the post and she has shown that she can handle herself, defend, block and even get some steals plus make the shots in the paint. I would also love to see Celeste in the game as a starter because she can defend plus shoot and right now we are definitely needed 51:27 that. I would start CC as the PG, NaLyssa, Femi in the post, Katie Lou and Celeste and see how that goes.

I watched the gamme and kept wondering if the coach told CC not to shoot anything long. She had opportunities then seemed to think better of it and passed to someone else. Three months ago CC would have taken those shots. And what happened to Boston? She looked much better last year. Is Sides competent?

and btw, one of the tv commentators said something like Clark being the greatest player in college history. seriously? she never won a championship, meanwhile Stewie won 4 straight championships, with UConn, with 4 MVP's

Sides had a group out there on the floor in the third that was making progress and then she put different players in for the start of the fourth. She did a similar thing in preseason play. I don't get it.

Aliyah Boston tried it, Jonquel Jones stepped to her with the Bahamian stare and put the fear of God in her. She made baby girl ink. I'm pretty sure I read Aliyah's lips at the bench saying "I was scared."😂

Why is Chicago being excluded from regular TV viewing? Doesn't make sense with Angel on the squad. ABC, ESPN, NBA TV, ION need to put the Sky on TV.

This coach is clueless! She would make Larry Bird play with his back to the basket and tell MIchael Jordan to stop showing off. She would tell Magic he is too tall to be a point guard, we are moving you to forward, She even said postgame that the lineup in the third quarter worked (Boston and Wheeler on the bench, CC with the ball in her hand), so what does she do, goes back to the other lineup for the 4th. She needs to go!

i dont' think the Fever schedule is fair, it is top loaded again this season having to play the strongest teams first starting out. Besides that, Christie Sides needs to be fired yesterday, for keeping Wheeler, Wallace on this roster, not playing Berger or Celeste Taylor, and trying to change CC game. Hire Lisa Bluder & they will flourish, also if CC & Angel are not successful the Wnba will fold so these refs need to give Caitlin the calls she got in college.

Let’s remember Michael Jordan’s rookie season…Recall the Chicago Bulls didn’t take off until they replaced Coach Doug Collin’s with Phil Jackson; and most importantly, drafting Horace Grant and Scotty Pippen. Therefore-in my humble opinion-Coach Sides won’t or shouldn’t last past the Olympics break! The WNBA can’t afford for Caitlin Clark (or Angel Reese to fail in their rookie season in the W; however since the mainstream media only wants to cover CCs sojourn in the W-I will address how to make Caitlin’s journey a successful one!) Continuing along with Caitlin Clark not having her Stephen Curry moments of shooting about 25 to 30 shots a game-and yes I’m talking about launching 3$-which is her money shot and what the fans wants to see out of Caitlin Clark this year! Nobody cares if the Fever has a winning record in Caitlin Clark’s rookie season. Anybody that has coached or played basketball on any meaningful level knows it take more than three practices for a team to learn each others strengths and weaknesses and where they like to receive the ball at or the floor. If I were the coach of the Indianapolis Fever I would run the Paul Westphal offense (just run and gun and try to out score the your-the Fever’s-opponents!) Then during the offseason the Fever can work on their defense- and offensive sets…But, for this year… can we please turn Caitlin Clark loose and let her run the same offense she ran at Iowa-that worked… Iowa made it to back-to-back NCAAW Championship games! Therefore, the style of basketball Caitlin Clark needs to play has been time tested and proven. And I know her teammates won’t have a problem playing the Paul Westphal style of offense because of Caitlin Clark’s passing ability they would be getting a lot of layups and wide open spot-up jump shots and 3$! Enough said…Call Coach Bluder so that she can show the WNBA fans what CC can do in Paul Westphal’s Run and Gun offense! The WNBA can’t afford to mess this up because as Eminem said-in “Lose Yourself…Look (WNBA you [have] one shot or one opportunity To seize everything you ever wanted in one moment, Would you capture it or just let it slip? Yo” (credit for the Eminem reference goes to KC of “Behind the Line” podcaster. These need to take Caitlin Clark off the ball run multiple picks to free her up like the Pacers with Reggie Miller and the present day Golden State Warriors with Stephen Curry! This is a no brainer…run picks and screens along with the Paul Westphal offense is the only way to go! So come on WNBA owners of the Indiana Fever, get Caitlin Clark and the rest of your Indiana Fever the coach they need or else you will [lose your fan base and that of the WNBA’$] or to quote Eminem - “Lose Yourself!” P.S. First none of these defenders are locking down catlin ..their more like annoying flies !! Catlin is get the looks but the shots aren't falling if she hits halk those shots that 16 to 20 every night ..But omg are you spot on on Mitchell needs to start and Wheeler needs to come of the bench ..I also like Burger. !! If sides makes those moves it will be a lot better!!! Aliyah needs to work on her post moves and footwork down low !! 🙏!!!! And they should be thanking Catlin for bringing the eyes to the WNBA!! If you look at the Fever roster, only two players over 5 yrs. experience. Eight players have no more than 2 yrs. experience. This is a very young team. It takes time to build a winning team. People need to stop bagging on rookie Caitlin, and on coach Sides. Need to respect WNBA seasoned players that can and will spin circles around rookies. These rookies are learning a new system, the physicality of playing with larger players, and faster paced game. It's a big learning curve! In another post I mentioned that all the other teams will watch a couple videos of Caitlin's moves, and they will adjust to shut her down. OP response was this is not Caitlin's first rodeo. LOL Clearly many of her fans have not been watching the WNBA, and it's annoying that they expect Caitlin to be better than most of the WNBA players. Not saying she can't hold her own, but better than most league players, not yet!

Sabrina schooled Caitlin but the Sabrina haters are also Caitlin haters so nobody is talking about that. Jones also schooled Boston.

I will say it again the WNBA is tuff and it's even harder when the 🎯 his on you. From the Ncaa championship To the WNBA with 2 games in and the blueprint is beginning to be passed around to pressure CC full court the Fever Coach is on the ⏳️ with her job if she don't change something soon. CC needs to play off the ball in my opinion, run her off screens to get her going against mismatches the way the 🗽 use there sharp shooting 3point shooter. Your asking to much of her as a rookie with what may be the BIGGEST 🎯 Iin history on a players back. Let her get a feel of the league before you try to hand it to her in my opinion.

The coach for the Indiana fever should be fired tomorrow. She should walk into work and given her last paycheck she’s terrible and some of those guards on the Indiana fever should be released as well. They’re terrible.

Clark should take it to the rack every time she can. today she was 1for1 going to the rim and was fouled twice and made 4 free throws. That's 100% efficiency. she was 1for7 from 3. Take it to the rim!! She had 7 boards and 6 assists 3 turnovers.

The fever should've kept Henderson who is not a shoot first guard. Wheeler and Mitchell takes bad shots. Henderson can direct the team and that way Clark can actually play off ball if needed

lol at people already blaming the coach.. The fever are not a good team yet. They have some high picks but as a team they are still quite weak. People talk about boston like she is young tina charles or something. Clark is really going to have to work on her handle. People can just crowd her now and she can't really create separation. Her speed also isn't good enough to turn corners past switching bigs. Add in her never taking midrange shots and you can make her just hold or pass the ball.. I think she'll be a good player, but all rookie guards generally get beat up in the W. I'm not even going to touch her defense..

Indiana Fever coaching is terrible they looked like an advanced high school team. Caitlin’s talent is being waisted under that coaching. This coach has been flying under the radar, Caitlin attention has shined a light on this coach’s limitations. No design offensive plays and a playground defense. 😲

I so agree on the changes to the line-up. That 3rd quarter energy was because CC had the ball & Berger was in instead of Wheeler. But I don't think Sides is willing to make that change. She loves Wheeler & pushed for Fever to pay a lot of money to get her last year. I don't think Sides can admit she was wrong & Wheeler needs to just be a bench player. There is a lot of great young talent on this team, but I don't think Sides knows what to do with it. I would say there is maybe a 3% chance Bluder will be the coach, but I do think Sides need to go if she can't adapt.

What's up with Erika Wheeler? How is she on a usual day?

The coach and teammates took the ball out of Caitlin's hands and made her an off ball guard. Reminds me of how Houston did Jeremh Lin back a decade ago. Not allowed to lead.

The Fever Team seems unable to finish plays without turning over the ball, add their inability to finish layups and score, no wonder Caitlin, even in a shooting slump, is still near the top of the Fever points list.

Watched Stewie all the years she was in Seattle. She was ragged her first year. Real ragged. WNBA doesn’t mess around. Clark will get much better…not sure about coaching quality
