Thank you for taking the time in making this video. Ever since I heard about the Horizon scandal I’ve been curious as to how the U.K. postal system works. To be honest, their postal system has always confused me. 😅 In the United States the government controls the main postal service. There are private, postal companies such as FedEx which is typically used for sending/receiving packages, and because you’re paying a lot more for their services your package will usually arrive far more quickly. However, the majority of mail and packages are still sent using the government’s United States Postal Service which is primarily funded via taxes.

Hooraaay thanks for another video Richard! I've been waiting for this one! It's so interesting to see how other countries do things 'differently' that we might not ever think about. I had seen both 'Post Office' and 'Royal Mail' and wondered what the difference was/what roles they play. Thanks for shedding light on the subject and for the tour of the early post office sites as well. All the best! PS - Canada has now started to become really strict on charging an 'import tax' on goods purchased from abroad, especially from couriers like Fedex and Purolator. The items are delivered, and then a few days later a bill /invoice will appear in the mail asking to pay duties. It reminds me of the old days before the Penny Black was invented- when the receiver had to pay to get their mail! Except worse because we have no option to decline it or send the package back, you just get an invoice telling you to pay and thats it. So, the receiver paying to receive their packages is sadly not as foreign a concept to todays modern times as I want it to be! 😂
Thank you for watching Lisa. Yes, that’s a good point, similar things happen in the UK. But sometimes they ask to pay the tax before we can get the items and sometimes like the Canadian way, depends on the Carrier. So sometimes we can refuse an item😅
