Its render passess. Also known as AOV's. It basically splitting your render into different data channels so you can composite it later to improve your render. I dont use blender so not sure how u can save out different passes. There are plenty of tutorials on youtube on how to do that in blender
I don’t understand one thing: render passes when put together basically give you the beauty render. If I don’t wanna deal with aovs for the moment, can I get a similar result with just one single beauty render?
This is tripping me up too - you can 100% get the same or nearly the same look with your final render - why go through all the trouble with the passes then, especially since he didn't seem to do anything to them?
I do my post processing in Affinity Photo. Though if I can just use straight Tiff file instead of layers (render passes) then I edit in Capture One. Because I'm a photographer. I just use my normal workflow with the file format.
Why do you stack your passes on top of your beauty? Why dont your work in LWF and compose the Beauty with direct, indirect, reflection, refraction... passes? This would give you even more flexibility, no?
That would give me more flexibility but because my raw renders dont have anything overdone i dont need to reduce any of the passes. If i have too much reflection i could reduce it with difference blend mode. So i dont really need to build my beauty pass from scratch. Hope that makes sense.
and hey call me a weirdo but i do my post in blender compositor because its very light and feature full (even tho i don't render using blender as i use max and corona) and sometimes use affinity photo if i want to do a quick fix up
