Evidently, humanity is better at reverse engineering Forerunner tech than the Covenant ever were. What worries me about that phrase, is that ONI's "foreign policy" is wayyyy too reminiscent of America's foreign policy. And we all know how well THAT goes. What few independant human colonies remain are going to be pounded into the dirt, and as we've already seen, they're preparing to commit genocide (via starvation) against the Sanghelli by introducing a dominant strain of grain into their ecosystem that, inedible, will knock out their staple food supply.

How dumb would they have to be to not give their ships shielding?
@Terra-Antares
@Terra-Antares 5 лет назад
@@padducks8070 Because before the Human-Covenant War they had no shielding technology, they were extremely reliant on armour for protection. The reason the Infinity got shields is because those shields came from forerunner/covenant technologies which were reverse engineered.

@@padducks8070 Well let's say your nation's in a war, it managed to win that war despite the odds, now it has to deal with the postwar shock, while at the same time attempting to salvage new technologies from its enemies. In a sense the shielding tech is relatively new to most UNSC Voidships, I'm not saying they aren't getting shields but retrofitting old ships does take time. Let's just wait and see in Infinite.
@DoctorIncant

Pad Ducks yeah I think only being able to use metal armour vs plasma weapons was one of the biggest disadvantages during the war for humanity, and it was a massive advantage for the covenant. Makes perfect sense that now that they won they'd make all ships have shielding.

Actually the Vindication class makes perfect sense being an older design. We know humanity switched to using MACs shortly before the war as they were still experimenting with space warfare and generally relied more on the use off missiles, so older designs wouldn't feature MACs as the primary weaponry. Older vessels quite probably didn't feature them, hence why it doesn't have one. As to being at Earth, just think of the context of the war. Humanity was losing, and had precious few vessels after Reach fell. With Earth standing as one of the last bastions of humanity it was probably retrofitted and taken out of mothball storage. Even after the war its likely some were kept in service due to humanity being low on ships and needing at least something available while the rebuilt and rearmed. After all, beggers can't be choosers and humanity wasnt in a position to be picky.

The new ships range between pretty good on the autumn (which is really just the pillar of autumn again but with some extra bits) and strident and bleh with the vindicator and others. And the Infinity is really all over the map, it would be perfect as a flag ship like the enterprise but it seems to be used more like the Normandy from ME. TheRed Hawk no, it was a Super Heavy, it’s slightly larger than a autumn class Heavy cruiser. It got that designation for the amount of destructive weapons systems, notably the large amounts of shive nukes it could launch as well as the archer missiles, rampart 50mm PDGs and 2 MACs.
@HawkTheRed
@HawkTheRed 5 лет назад
Duke of Petchington you know, with all that, you could have just as easily be describing the Marathon Heavy Cruiser. The reason it got the name SuperHeavy Cruiser (the technical term is BattleCruiser, but I learned long ago 343 and Bungie didn't give a right arse if it doesn't subscribe to the rule of cool) was because it was one of the most heavily armored ships and was often the lead of many fleets. Plus, during the Human/Covenant war, one of the largest front line ships the UNSC had during the war (if you don't count the Punic as a front line ship and I don't because it's a carrier). The Firepower was about equal to the Marathon. The term "SuperHeavy Cruiser" is one of those Sci-Fi terms that was made up only because it sounds cool, like "Star Destroyer"

How? Warfleet clearly shows they are ants compared to the mothership. It's necessary. The Infinity class is the only class of UNSC ships that possesses Forerunner engines, not human. If it didn't, it wouldn't have that hangar. They fit very well.
@michaelcochran3398
@michaelcochran3398 5 лет назад
Gravemind the length of the strident is about 490 meters. The height of the infinity is just over 1000 meters. This means that the strident will take up about half of the height of the infinity. Warfleet’s illustration depicts the strident taking about 1/10th or 1/8th of the height. In other words. Then either the strident’s stated length is far too small or the Infinity’s size is too small. This is far from 1/2. The ships in the hangar are going to be about 100 meters in length. If you don’t believe me take a look at the warfleet illustration which can be found online and come back to continue this discussion.

I like the post war ships of the UNSC, but there are just far too many of them to be believable. These ships are supposedly built by humanity, a humanity that at the end of the war was down to a handle of frigates on Earth, their sole remain major colony of any real military and economic value. Even with the integration of reverse engineered Covenant and Forerunner technology, I just think that the writters of the 343 era Halo lore have made humanity wel, overpower, for lack of a better term. It's entirely ridiculous and unbelievable that in only 5 years after being virtually wiped out as a species, Humanity (or more specifically the UNSC,) could build a whole new fleet of hundreds of bigger and more advanced warships, and still somehow have resources to rebuild their shattered worlds. A few super advanced ships, supported by the refurbished and repaired remains of ships that survived the war, I can certainly believe, but not hundreds of advanced new builds. Just look at Europe after the Second World War, look how long it took for most nations to rebuild their economies and military's, often 10 or more years, and that was with massive amounts of economic aid from the United States.

Why do people keep saying the Dawn is a fucking Paris class? Paris was introduced in Reach, not 3. Paris was/is (we see some in the Infinity's fleet) an offensive/defensive platform, 3's Charon was more of a troop-transport with fighting capabilities. Paris looks very different from the Charon, even if they're built on the same frame. Just look at the side panels on the rear thrusters, Stalwart/Charon were straight, Paris was angled. Also, the Dawn is canonically still a Charon, not some bloated ass Strident (and I *like* the Strident, but the Dawn redesign is like 5 times the size of it! Atmosphere rated my ass!). I think more people would like the Strident if it underwent a redesign to be less overcomplicated. The basic shape should remain the same, but everything should be heavily simplified and made more utilitarian, like the Paris class it's meant to replace, and was clearly heavily inspired by, much like many of the Halo 4 designs (fuck Halo 5's new designs though, your M820 sucks ass, your redesigns worse than most of Halo 4's new designs). But 343 just redesigned everything to be more detailed to look more "realistic" (according to basic bitch modern-space-age design), but this change only really worked on a few designs, like the Warthog, Forerunner architecture, and most Covenant vehicles. The Strident has far too many lights (why do sci-fi craft think glass or LEDS lining the sides of your *combat* craft is a good idea?), the bridge is even more exposed (at least the mid-war frigates could use the excuse of being frontal assault craft, and had part of the MAC's armor protecting it from the front), and is just so overcomplicated feeling. The Strident's heavy armaments and linear shape makes it a good heavy frigate, but it doesn't feel like a utilitarian, "I'm gonna make those shield generators wish they never existed" combat ship that the Paris or Charon did. www.halopedia.org/File:FUD_H3-Hyperion_H4-scaled2.jpg www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/canon-fodder-have-s-moa

Star Wars is so hard to compare because the numbers they provide are so bullshit. And I don't mean 40k kind of bullshit. 40k is suppose to be ridiculous. 40k is consistently bullshit. Star Wars is bullshit in the sense that supposedly a lot of ships blasters put out so much energy that it alone would be enough to kill a planet. And yet they need to build a Death Star. Star Wars is inconsistently bullshit. So what do we compare? The on paper statistics? Their visual performance in the movies?

On the subject of the Vindication class being an 'old design' I can only offer my headcanon: That is is a new design, but is heavily based on an older class of ships. This theoretical old battleship likely would have been a late 23rd century, or older, design, built when MACs were less common and/or less powerful. A time when thick enough armor (and a decent PD suite) was capable of shrugging off the majority of anti-ship missiles and light MAC rounds, the price for that protection being that is was a slow and ponderous ship best suited for defensive operations while the lighter cruisers, destroyer, and frigates prosecuted the offense. If any of these old BBs were still in service by the time of the Human-Covenant war, they didn't last too long. Their low speed made them easy targets to the covenant warships and while half a dozen meters of titanium-A many have been enough to shrug of an Archer's shaped charge warhead, it only took a few extra seconds to boil through under plasma torpedo or energy projector fire, compared to the UNSC's lighter, faster, more versatile warships. Any that weren't destroyed in battle likely would've been retired and from there either mothballed or scrapped to feed the production of more useful ships. Only with development of effective energy shielding did the concept of the battleship once again become practical for the UNSC and, lacking for a better design philosophy, they picked up where they left off and updated the old design to create the Vindication class.

That's another thing that I love about UEG/UNSC. Despite the return of the Civil government they have wisely spent money to rebuild their navy and not only that, they drastically improved it. UEG/UNSC have, even if reduced to a bunch of colonies lead by Earth, still an enormous potential and economic power. It's impressive how powerful the UEG/UNSC is.

Question: Do you think the UNSC would have eventually won the battle of attrition had the Covenant never found earth and its solar system? We were developing these advanced ships and building them (The Infinity, Autumn) Class and so on. But with the schism of the Elites causing such a huge chunk of the Covenant to go renegade it makes me think the UNSC would have been able to mount a pretty epic comeback kid moment. Using hit and run tactics with the much more powerful Infinity, Eternity and any other ships of the line that were created and allying with the Elites in taking out the Brute or loyalist Elite ships of the Covenant.

I'd like to see them show some lore in how far they could upgrade remaining ships of the older classes. For instance, if any Punic class supercarriers remained, if they are given energy shields and maybe an upgraded set of main engines, each one would be basically 1/2 of an Infinity class ship, since they are the only other UNSC ship class armed with super MACs (2 of them) and they are also quite large and can hold 4x frigates inside them. Similarly, what could be done with the older Marathon class cruisers that are still in the inventory, not to mention the Sahara class heavy prowlers, which were probably the most successful UNSC class during the war in terms of getting a lot done with relatively few losses.
