My surgeon has recommended laminoplasty from c2 -c7 as well as a c1 laminectomy. I have congenital stenosis with myelopathy and skull is catching on c1. Is this safe?

Seems like a reasonable plan. Obviously i can't give you specific guidance on whether this makes sense without evaluating you and your imaging but, based on what you describe, this seems like a fair plan. thanks, -SP

Would I be a candidate for this surgery? Assessment: quite severe degenerative stenosis C4-5 with AP diameter 2.1mm, with significant ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament. My doctor wants to do “Given the degree of her stenosis, recommend surgery to decompress her spine. She has significant OPLL, necessitating a posterior approach: The following surgery is strongly recommended: C2-T1 PSF, with C3-7 laminectomies.”

Hi Andrew, I'm afraid I can't comment on your specific clinical circumstances. In general numbness is the last thing to get better and, unfortunately, is the least likely/complete thing to recover. I'm not sure how long it has been for you but all we can do is give it time. Good luck! -SP

can a patient stay without any laminoplasty surgery. what is the risks of not doing any surgery,

It depends a lot on your symptoms. If you have symptoms of myelopathy there is a risk of progression. The goal of a surgical decompression (like a laminoplasty) is to reduce the risk of progression. If you find that your symptoms are worsening then it is usually advisable to proceed with surgery. Obviously I can't comment on your specific circumstances -- these are general principles. Good luck, SP
