In the realm of database management systems, PostgreSQL stands out as a robust and versatile option, renowned for its reliability and performance. Central to its architecture are Write-Ahead Logging (WAL) files, a critical component ensuring data integrity and recovery capabilities.
WAL files serve as a fundamental mechanism for PostgreSQL's transactional model. When a change is made to the database, instead of immediately writing it to the data files on disk, PostgreSQL first writes the change to the WAL files in a sequential manner. This process, known as logging, ensures that modifications are recorded before they are applied to the main data files, making transactions durable even in the event of system failures.

Hello ur concept is not clear you need to study well wal files are which is on storage are overwritten and there is another background process archiver which backups up wal files and creates archives and they are used for Pitr.. and wal buffer and wal files contains both committed and non committed transactions. Whenever checkpoints r process issues a checkpoint which is after 5 mins dirty buffers which is in shared buffer are flashed to disk ..
