we have been growing hostas in pots for many years and at this time of year they are just starting into growth. We did a little work on these pots over the winter and cleaned some of the old compost from around the top of the pots and replaced it with fresh mushroom compost. It is now time to do a little bit of a tidy up and weed any seedlings that are coming up around the hostas. the new growth is spectacular with some beautiful architectural features as the leaves unfold.
Growing hosters in pots is my favourite way of growing these plants as you're able to move them seasonally and really appreciate the variation in Leaf size and coloring as well as some spectacular flowers later in the summer
start paying attention to the compost in the pot as at this time of year it's easy for them to dry out as we start getting some warmer weather it's essential that these fast-growing plants have plenty of nutrients and water if they are to put on a good display during the entire rest of the growing season

Hosta's are beautiful, and one of my husband's favorite plants. I love that you grow them in pots. I love the other videos you've shown on the pot grown hostas. I bought one today marked down because the plastic pot it was in was falling apart. I adore terracotta pots, but they don't last through a winter like they used to here in the States either. Thank you for sharing.

I've been growing Francee in a pot for years without dividing. I think it's been in the same pot for 15 years! I'm planning on moving several of my "blue" hostas into pots to move them up on my deck to keep the deer from harvesting them for themselves. Terracotta pots cannot be used outside in my zone 6 winters. I use styrofoam pots only. Even though these pots do not breathe, my Francee hosta and a choke berry tree have been doing fine in them for many winters. Thanks for your videos!

Glad you enjoy them we have lots of dear but so far they’ve left the hostas alone

I often wondered if pots could withstand the pressure of expanding hosta roots. I have several dwarf hostas, and they might go really well in a pot! Thanks for the idea!!

They love being in pots it seems to reduce slug and snail damage to . We don’t use any pest control except the birds and we have very little slug damage

4:03 I wonder if they’re the Hosta Fortunei - if they have lavender/lilac flowers, or if they have white flowers, they might be Hosta Grandiflora? Edit* I’m in Australia so they might have different names. Hoping you might know. What if they don't have a dormant period? It’s late autumn here and I have several hosta that still haven't gone dormant! 😅

Good question . Our always have a dormant period in uk related probably to daylight hours . If it’s a mild autumn winter they can hold onto their leaves longer

I’m in Toronto Canada and can the Hostas be overwintered in these clay pots?

We over winter them in their pots in UK but our temperatures may not go as low as yours. We keep them in a sheltered position close to a wall. They have gone through frosts and snow and down to about -10 . Last year we sadly lost all our agapanthus in pots during a very long period of hard frost but the hostas were fine. it depends how cold your winters are

We do have lots of deer in garden but they seem to be leaving the hostas alone
