Is the V version only set up to transmit on the Japanese band allowances? I know much of theirs overlaps with ours, but there are some differences.

Not sure if there's a Japanese HF band difference, but this particular radio was opened up to transmit anywhere it receives. Whether or not it came factory that way I can't say.
