Fun Fact: I tried out cooking some cheburek and ended up sending a picture to my babushka. And it ended up with her checking out Life of Boris. Needless to say... Life of Boris is now officially a babuska approved channel.
Thanks Boris! Growing up as a kid my father was a single dad soldier looking after me and we were pretty broke, he would make these amazing potato skin chips. To feed me. Sadly last year his heart gave out and I never learnt the recipe so I'll cook the pub I think and think of him.
@@lucaswibisono1316 that's a misconception. The only "dangerous" potato is a green potato, which produces an active ingredient found in certain poisons.
My grandma would make a tray of half sliced potatoes and a piece of bacon on it and put it in the oven. For side dish you would have butter, onions and more bacon (aged not cooked), very simple and delicious meal
I doubt you'll see this Boris but I've been saving your videos in the back of my mind for years for when I'm on my own. Today I finally use your recipes. My taste buds cry joy.
Boris!!!! I love you, comrade!~ your recipes have helped my family through some hard time.... and i love your potato peel chip recipe... so good, so easy!
Day 1 of quarantine:I feel good,am watching life of Boris Day 7 of quarantine: no food,no water,I am drinking the antiseptic like vodka and have run out 2 days ago Day 9 of quarantine:neighbour gave potato peel,am eating that for the rest of my life Day 12: have been sent to grandmas house,so hungry that I ate dirt while planting potato
Years ago me and a friend were making homemade fries at about 12:00 at night, and I had the idea to throw the skins in the fryer instead of getting rid of them. One of the best decisions I've ever made.
Makes sense, since sweet potato is a hot-weather crop actually, unlike normal potato. Even in a hotter place like Texas they usually grow it in the summer. Probably isn’t as available in slav countries for that reason, or it’ll be more expensive.
8:45 lol he said "focus cyka" just when I turned my head away from the screen , I thought he talked to me for a second there ! 😂😂😂 Edit : thanks for 100 likes lol I don't think I got so many like this in my life 😝
I will definitely be trying some of these out! This was an awesome video idea, and the timing was perfect because I was wondering the other day about some good ways to use the peels, and behold, a master list of potato peel recipes in video form from the shashlik king himself!
Boris: “Come on, how often do you deep fry things anyway?” That is the moment I realized what feeds the American addiction to oil. Edit: I am American btw
Back in Romania when I was a kid, most people never fried anything (bacon, eggs etc) in oil more than half a centimeter deep. The first time I even heard of the concept of deep frying was on American TV, and honestly even nowadays when I enjoy some deep-fried chicken every once in a while I feel like many deep fried things taste too oily/fat, and I think it's a consequence of growing up like that. Same with showering - back in the home country in the 90s almost all people bathed instead of showering as that wasted less water and water rates were quite expensive, but because of that practice to this day I could never find a shower "refreshing" or "conforting" as many people here in the west do and I still only bathe - showers just feel too rushed, the torrent of water on your skin feels unnatural, the need to stand while quickly rubbing your entire body (as opposed to lazily submerging your body and daydreaming in the tub) makes it feel like a tiring chore etc. Point is, I think our perception of things and preferences get shaped by childhood experiences far more than most of us admit or really think about. Just some food for thought.
This is my favorite recipe video by far. I can't believe I have never used the peels like this before especially like chips. I love potatoes and mayonnaise, but I'm IrishScotts and Mexican(moms side)
I was about to eat instant noodles from Chernobyl but youtube notification said "Ey cyka Life of Boris upload video" now I can eat something unhealthy while watching new video of Boris cooking healthy slav gold
More ideas for merch quotes for stickers based on cooking "Sorry babushka, is only business" "Shuffle it around just a little bit" "The bay leaf..." and the back of the shirt has "or maybe two!"
2018: No pan can hold my ambition 2019: Make nobody proud with broken sausage 2020: You just sit there listen to the story about how potato was a deficient product
What you use the peel for shows what kind of Slav you are. My fam lives in the city.... we boil our peels, use the water to water our tomatoes, and trade with our chickens: the peels for eggs.
this is a collage student's godsend right here, the pub way and the professional but if I want to make me something for later the Siberian bear is a good candidate too
@@davidfoutch6251 no but I have been told a story by my mother about her walking into the kitchen and finding 5 year old me covered head to toe in mashed potatoes. So kind of.
No joke my man, I was raised by my grandparents for a few years when I was young, and roughly 30% of my childhood was spent peeling carrots, beets, and potatoes.
Some of the recipes Boris does are what I did even before I even learned about RU-vid or get a smartphone/computer (high school, only money is allowance has to ask parents for hand me down Nokia). In his 1 euro meal/30 euro a month challenge. Particularly the Macaroni, the non-instant noodle, and the Gopnik supreme. For Pelmen, we have the local version from the Chinese and the Japanese: Siomai, but more expensive average 4-6 pieces= $1.00, and we have Cheburek's Spanish cousin otherwise known here as Empanada most expensive is a dollar a piece. But Blin it's cheaper to make your own Siomai and Empanada than to buy frozen ones or one from a stall. I made fries with skin on as well, might try doing this when we make adobo (used sliced potatoes with no skin), and use the skin to make chips later on, and frying chips is common here (compared to baking them cause not everyone here has the privelege of owning an oven blyat, not even a toaster, me included years ago, the only way I can reheat dishes is to put them back in the pan and cook them again or bath their container in hot water) If anything thanks to Boris who gave me an idea why not make a slav dishes stall because I swear, I looked everywhere and no one has made one yet here Boris: How often do you deep fry things anyway? Me: Lumpia, Empanada, and Lechon, and heart attacks.
In my country: let's make the smallest amount of waste so we can eat 95% of it In russia: let's make a big bunch of waste, so we can eat it and we'll waste 0% of it
@@raediaufar5003 I would actually cut myself less often with the knife, since the potatoes would slip out of my hand to often, or I would gouge several layers of skin with the potato peeler, so the knife honestly takes less effort, maybe it's just sharper...
You helped me so much. My school requires that I complete 40 “service learning hours” in order to graduate. I’m currently at 36/40 since covid-19 hit the USA and I couldn’t attend events to complete the last 4 hours. I’m using your recipes to make videos that I submit to the school in order to get my last 4 hours, so I can graduate May 2nd :) Thanks Boris. So I got approved and now have 40 hours! Thanks Boris, Babushka would be proud.
@William Sambo Warning essay ahead. American public school is fucking terrible, almost all of the classes don't help you with planning and preparing you for the future, you constantly get taught useless garbage that won't even be remembered by the teachers. They don't even teach you manage money or how to get a job (unless you specifically join classes for it but they sometimes won't even have those classes available or they will be full) hell you don't even get taught any marketable skills, you have to learn pretty much everything from everywhere but school. Most of the assignments are God damned worthless cause they're just work to keep you busy and approaching on overwhelmed and on top that small list of bullshit that american schools do wrong, the amount of funding that the school gets is not from the amount of students in the school it's from how high the property tax of the community it's in (or something similar). Bacially if the neighborhood is low income the school is going to be underfunded and unable to teach anything useful making it near impossible for the students to have a decent future that doesn't involve them becoming criminals.
Boris: "Do not mind the beeping, the kitchen is exploding." Later that week, investigators near the destroyed building: "It's not 3 Roentgen, it's 15000..." Boris, still alive somehow: "VADIM BLYAT!"
Indeed! The way things are looking, I expect everyone is going to need every single potato based recipe they can get. And who better to learn from than Boris!
