My Milwaukee Quik Lok trimmer kept disengaging so I decided to take a look at it. Maybe this can help someone else if they are having the same issue.

Thanks for making this video, my string trimmer was doing exactly the same thing right when i was in the middle of cutting a lot of weeds in my backyard before a rainstorm was about to hit and it was going to rain all this week. I was almost ready to drive to Home Depot and exchange it but I thought I’ll go on RU-vid and see if anyone has a video on this problem and your video popped up and that was exactly what was wrong with it and it was fixed in less then a minute and now it works great. Thanks again!

Thank you! We were deflated when it wouldn’t work. Your recommendation was 100% right in. You can totally hear that rod bouncing back and forth. Seems like something that could be avoided in the design phase. Thank you for taking the time to explain this.

Literally saved me $165. I ordered a new trimmer head attachment for my quicklok system but when attaching it...grinding noise was present (previously...the old head wouldn't even work). Followed your video and 5 min later my old trimmer head was working and I'm heading to home depot in an hour to return the new head. Awesome stuff!

Awesome. Just what I needed. Started looking into it myself. Thought it was the trimmer end and started there. I had it mostly taken apart and didn't see anything amiss. I came inside and searched for a solution and found your video. Went back out, and it was very obvious where the clamp had slipped position. Great find on your part, and thank you for posting it for all of us. Great help!

Mate, I was just about to start taking the trimmer head apart because I thought the issue was somewhere in there. Did a quick google and your video was the first result. I had the same issue last week I was so close to returning it. Then my son pointed out dad the pole saw looks like it's bending i realized that bottom clamp was coming loose once I put it back in place and tightened it works just as good as before I love the Milwaukee quick lock system I have all of the attachments except for the edger.

I just saw this as I was going to go pickup my Milwaukee Trimmer/blower with the "lock" system....I get what your saying....great easy fix. Glad to know I don't have to return this thing before I take it home LOL Lot of $$ invested in Milwaukee battery products in the last few months and happy so far.....

I had the same issue, business end not spinning. After tightening up that bolt and making sure it was down all the way no luck still. I took apart the spool and it must’ve been bound up because once that once free it ran like a champ again.

Similar problem is when the motor keeps shutting down while trimming. The service center explained vibration from heavy use can loosen that collar a fraction of an inch and for some reason that causes the motor to stop. Reposition it as far down as possible and problem goes away. Also true of the solid pole trimmer (not quick lock). Except for that you have to open the motor housing. I moved the pole just 1/8” toward the motor and solved the exact same problem. It is a pain to reassemble the housing. I recommend taping or zip tie the loose wires so they don’t wander over ver a screw hole.

Tim from Canada I have just bought this same unit but it was the quick lok with string trimmer.. and I am also hearing that this unit burns batteries, meaning that the batteries seem to fry in the back of this string trimmer there are videos on RU-vid that show this

Same problem, slightly different situation. I have a house in KC that I bought the Milwaukee lawn mower, weed trimmer and edger. I live there 11 months out of the year. I also have a house in ChiangMai, Thailand. I bought a Milwaukee lawn mower here, and bought 2 weed eaters, a pole saw and a hedge trimmer that I brought over in a golf bag last December. The weed eaters worked fine then and have been used a couple of times by the person who cuts my grass when I’m not around. I have 2 power attachments. I tried both weed eaters today and same problem. I had same problem last December with the pole saw. I took it to the Milwaukee service center and they thought it was possibly the gear at the top of the pole saw. I brought the new gear with me and was going to the service center tomorrow to have them put the gear part on. Now, I’m thinking that I’ll try your solution first to see if that fixes both the weed eaters and the pole saw. I’m assuming that the screw on the weed eaters uses a metric Allen wrench. Would you happen to know which size? I don’t speak much Thai so it would be better for me to know in advance what I need before going to the hardware store.

What about the base of the extension not fitting. I can put the pole saw into it directly and it’s fine but I can’t get the extension to lock in at the base.

With mine, the motor stops with my finger fully pressing down the trigger. I'd cut a bunch and at some point, the motor would stop running. Battery (8.0 it came with) would have full charge or 3/4 bars and do this. Using Turtle mode is practically useless, when I put the trimmer head down to some light grass, would stop instantly. I have to use Rabbit mode which kills batts quik...and I don't see using Rabbit mode for some thin grass

hey man, I’m currently scouring the internet for this. I just used my brand new quik lok with string trimmer attachment today for the first time and it did this instantly, within the first 5 minutes of use. Same kit...8.0 and charger. Used it for about 20 more minutes and continued to randomly shut off while engaged. Some research indicated possibly an overheating problem? Either way it’s going back, and I’m going to try one more and hopefully it’ll be better. Really sucks because I got the pole saw attachment with it as well and planned on this being a nice set up. Any update on your situation?

Mine has this same problem. If I I use it for long enough to swap out a couple of batteries it overheats and melts the battery too. I’ve sent it back on warranty four times now for a “repair” and the same happens every time. They don’t test it out well enough. Any updates/solutions?

Okay, took mine out today to do some trimming and its spinning is WAY to slow. Can't slice three grass or weeds. :-( Tried two green charged batteries just to make sure. Is this a sign of the beginning of what you identified or something else??

I tried this but after taking the quik release assembly off to remove the plastic collar, it won’t stay on anymore. No matter how much I tighten the hex socket bolt and regardless of if the plastic collar is on or not, the shaft slides right off…Thoughts???

I fixed it! The hex or Allen wrench tool I was using to tighten it was too small. I got the right size and it tightened right up

How do you even get it to run? I get 5 mins in and it drains a fully charged 8ah battery after constantly shutting off. Due to overheating is what I've heard.

My 9ah does that. All 4 lights on the battery dance around. My 12ah lasts longer than my arms do.

@@TheStruggleville it's crazy. I see people on RU-vid using them as pole saws and edgers. There is no way in he'll the ones I got could handle anything. I took 1 back and got a 2nd. The 2nd one was worse. I couldn't do 1/4 of a small yard

Was just having the same problem.. I removed that black piece and she seems to work just fine now.. hoping she holds up. Thought i broke it using the pole saw. Glad i didn't have to take the powerhead apart. Saved my old cheap black & decker just incase.. 😊 why would they even put it on?
