I really live how encouraging the clay community is: in a lot of other art forms; there's such an emphasis on keeping your practices to yourself. Thank you so much for being open and sharing your secrets! The world is more beautiful because of it.

Spent two hours glazing two mugs, a plate, creamer & sugar bowl along with ten buttons. Firing them tomorrow. Can't wait for class to see how they turn out. Its like getting a gift every time the kiln is done. These are my first thrown mugs, far from perfect but are straight and round. Taking Ceramics I at ASU in Beebe, AR

@@karencollier5577 you might want to try making drip catchers to put under things like your vase to prevent that problem: www.oldforgecreations.co.uk/blog/drip-catchers

Karen Collier this is so cool that you posted this. I have a grinder to deal with drips. Hate that job. Using those biscuits to catch drips is a great idea. Avoids messy shelves. The bottoms of your mugs is key to being professional and ready to sell. Definitely have to be smooth. This is a really big deal to buyers. Also to avoid drip mess put some horizontal grooves in your mugs. Trial and error. Let your kiln know that you are boss! Make a bunch more vases. Think how you can fix the problem. Just make more and never give up. Pottery is rocket Science. Jon send he would do a review of people's mugs so maybe mail him something. He's pretty kind and easy on people and has interesting things to say. 😉👍🏻🤖

Thanks for a very informative glazing video - one tip I might mention for beginners is to make sure that you wash your hands before touching your bisque ware so you don't get any oils on the surface. You also want to keep dust off of it - they can both keep glazes from adhering properly to the surface.

Thanks, I am an old potter in Huntsville Alabama and have just found your RU-vid videos. Thanks for doing these and especially this one on glazing large pots which has always been a struggle for me. I generally resort to spraying, but I like your option much better - at least until I try it and make a big mess. As in anything in pottery for the one who knows what he is doing it always look easy - not so much for the observer.

I learned these techniques from my teacher. They're great. I typically only use them for under glazes and use a brush to hand paint different designs on my pieces. Despite that they are invaluable. I can't tell you how much of a mess I would have made if I hadn't learned how to pour glaze.

These look sooo much easier than what I do. I'm still in the phase where I only buy single pints of glaze at a time so I have to paint three layers with a fan brush. It TAKES SO LONG. Hopefully someday I'll be making enough pottery that I can justify getting those big glaze containers :)
