A few tips. No need to tap the edges when screeding. Don't trowel when so much bleed water on top, it permanently weakens the surface. Let the bleed water mostly evaporate before trowel Broom was much too early. Let it go off more for a more refined finish
How about the fact that you showed the first and only time you hit it with the edger before you broomed it, yet we see a picturframe finish at the end? lol
i seen that rough broom and was like ouch! then the picture frame. i wonder if they were like well F why do my edges get ruined by the broom? hit it again, "hey that looks alright"
Damn you can't do anything and post it on the internet without all the haters coming out of the wood work. You could rescue a dying puppy and someones gonna criticize it. Great job and thank you
Plant “Creeping thyme” in between the cracks so once it flourishes, each step will release a minty scent. Balance the inert concrete with harmonious flowers!
Thank you so much i want to try this out on my patio and now I have all the info and instructions to make it,very good job don’t listen all mad pro’s everybody do it on is way, until you like it feel proud of yourself 🙏 Thank you for sharing 😊
@@drive-2786seriously - they have the best work ethic, and do amazing work. When was the last time you saw a Mexican begging on the street? Just make sure you pay them well as they deserve way more than they charge. And don’t be racist with the nonsense border wall and deportation threats. It was their land first.
I did a similar setup on my patio using large blue stone pieces 30inch x 30inch they had a few inch gap in between. After using it I found the gaps to be troublesome, if you didn’t put your chair in the same spot it get stuck In between the gaps, or you couldn’t sit the way you wanted. I ended up adding more blue stone and butting them altogether.
It took me about 45 mins to mix and pour one slab. Then you let it cure for a bit and then another 20 mins or so to finish it. Yes you should be using something to reinforce the concrete.
Hey man, beautiful work. I am planning to do the same. when you prepared the area with paver base did you follow any slope for water drainage, I mean once I build the concrete slab and artificial grass how the rainwater will pass....Please advise. Thanks
Thank you! Yes I did put a very slight slope on each pad to help with drainage. However, the paver base under the artificial turf drains very well too.
Forms can be removed shortly after you do the surface finish. If you wait too long you will not be able to finish the faces, not an issue in this case however since the faces will not show.
Any chance you could tell me the type of mix used in the video. Over the last cpl of years and picked the general bag of concrete. But had so much aggregate in it ( I've tried to learn and your videos are so helpful. Thank you. I have wanted to do a pour like this. The concrete mix looks so grey and smooth. What I want to try to use but cant find it ? Is that maybe straight Portland cement your using ? Thanks so much
I just used 60lb bags of high-strength Sakrete from Home Depot. The aggregate should settle when you screed it and then finish it with a mag float. Hope this helps!
Have you ever tried mixing one 60lb bag of concrete in a contractor leaf bag? + 1 gallon milk jug of water? No mess , No shoveling just rock the bag back and forth for about 10-15secs and pour directly out of bag. There is a reference on RU-vid. Nice job btw!
I find it easier to add the water first. Especially as a woman. The mix tends to stick to the wheel barrow and clump and makes it harder for me to hand mix especially when doing 3-4 bags at a time.
@chandracox6814 300 sq ft is ALOT to hand mix. I suggest you order a truck. You can find owner/operators that will deliver you 4-4.5 yards of country. You're really not saving yourself $ unless you have alot of free labor.
Sarah, how could anything be difficult for you? You have such awesome biceps💪!!! I'm jealous. But srsly, don't get mad at me and beat me up for the lulz.🤣
I have an area I want to cover in cement around the size of 1 of those pavers. So I need to install that chicken wire ? Sorry I know nothing about this nor the terminology
Small question, i have noticed that few my friends did this, and after few days small vane crack appeared, now look like sh…, only difference is that they used normal concrete delivered by truck. Did any cracks appeared now after some time to your slabs. They look fantastic
Thanks! Yeah I have never tried the dry pour method. I would prefer to just do it the old fashioned way and know it’s definitely solid all the way through!
@@hanoveroak as an experienced professional I would be very interested in your thoughts if you do a test slab and let it cure properly. I see a lot of amateurs doing it with success. Cheers J
Something's off. When he used the broom it was at all corners of the frame. When he took it off it showed an area that was smooth... That was left out.
We put artificial turf between the slabs. You can check our channel to see the full video. You could also put small rocks between them or even fill them with concrete if you wanted.
Yes you could. I purposely created the spaces to put artificial turf in between them. You could also put small rocks. You could also put the forms closer together and for the edges you want touching just use thinner boards there rather than 2x4s.
