Come with me and taste a new cocktail of my own invention and then explore three versions of a CHANEL Classic! My Review of classic Chanel Pour Monsieur: • CHANEL POUR MONSIEUR (...
Lanier, you're the man! Thank-you so much for this comparison video...well-done! I just got in and it's late, but I'll comment more tomorrow since I teach a morning graduate class. Nite!
+Jim R Now that I have time to comment...Bravo! Lanier, you are truly the definitive expert when it comes to all things Pour Monsieur within Fragcom; well-done and one of your best episodes ever!! Although I have never tried the original/reformulated Pour Monsieur, I found the EDP to be very different than the Concentree when I purchased a bottle in January 2015. To me, it seemed to have more of the qualities you mentioned in your Pour Monsieur video. Some folks said that I was crazy and that the EDP was nothing more than the Concentree being repacked...so I'm glad to hear your take on all three. Finally, I purchased Monsieur de Givenchy not to long after Pour Monsieur EDP and really like it...but it's not as nice and gentlemanly, for sure. I hope to purchased a bottle of Pour Monsieur one of these days...perhaps I'll take a trip to Europe this Fall.
+Jim R Thank you so much Jim...Like I said you are the cherry in my cocktail in the comments section. I am so happy that you were not disappointed in my take. And thrilled in fact that we both got the same impression of the EDP. I don't know where you live but I suspect that Canada may be closer that Europe, but my suggestion is to go to Europe anyway. IT is so amazing! And Jim thank you for reminding me to do this. It was so much fun and now I have all the Pour Monsieurs except for a vintage one...working on that now. Cheers!
Really love this line as you know. Glad you took the the opportunity to give your take on each of them. Thanks again for suggesting this to me a few months ago!
+CascadeScents You are so very welcome! Chanel is a constantly wonderful designer house as you well know. I will be looking to see what you think of the EDP.
Pour Monsieur was one of my first "big" purchases when I was about 19 or 20 yrs old, it was also my signature scent! Then came..Jean Patou pour Homme.....which I was just lucky enough to obtain a bottle of..after MANY years !
+JohnCarlo Burton Ciao again JohCarlo! Ohhhh I want to try Jean Patou Pour Homme...always have and just never got around to it. I am going to look for a vintage bottle! Cheers
It made my day when I saw the title of your new video... A dream come true! I've really been wanting to try Pour Monsieur EDT. I just received Christian Dior's Eau Sauvage this morning and have been loving it all day. I've read that Eau Sauvage and Pour Monsieur are compared often. Anyway, thoroughly enjoyed your video as always and I may try your cocktail tonight. Cheers!
+Brock Royston Oh....let me know how the Pour Monsieur Cocktail goes? Mine was really nice. Don't forget the Maraschino Cherry! And thank you Brock for the very wonderful comment.
Lanier, I have been wearing Bleu de Chanel all morning now it's time change asap to CPM! You are a great supporter of our classics and perfume history, thank-you!
I agree Sir. I first bought the original Chanel pour Monsieur edT in a store a near my home and immediately fell in love with it. I then when out and bought the Eau Concentree and wasn't too thrilled by it so I gave it to my Father. When I discovered that the edP had been released I went out and bought that and was pleasantly suprised that it smelled exactly like the original one and lasted a long time too! Thank You for the great review you are a great fragrance reviewer and much appreciated!
I just picked up the EDP today! I couldn’t decide between it and the EDT but it seems like I made the right choice. I was so pleased to find your video!! 👍🏼😀❤️
What a fantastic review!! The sense of history and culture you’re able to present is just stunningly spectacular and evocative of a life lived beautifully. I was looking for someone who could explain the differences between the various Pour Monsieur offerings. Thank you very much! Stay safe and healthy!!
I enjoy your reviews. Great job on the comparison between the different Chanel Pour Monsieur varieties. I went kind of fragrance crazy today and purchased both Acqua Di Parma Colonia and Chanel Pour Monsieur EDP. Love them both. Really surprised at how much I enjoy the Chanel Pour Monsieur. Great fragrance!
Wow, I am really digging your mixology. And your take on Pour Monsieur. I have never tried this scent, but will now seek out a sample of the concentree. Good tip!
+Jon Komatsu Thanks Jon! I don't think the Concentree is carried in stores anymore since the introduction last year of the Eau de Parfum, but you can check it out. You can still get it online at Amazon though. I hope you like it as much as I do. Cheers.
That drink looks amazing, I love Grand Marnier and all the other ingredients, as well. I also really enjoy Pour Monsieur and plan on purchasing a full bottle now. Thank you for your reviews and as always VERY entertaining and classy. I imagine you as a great book writer! Cheers!
Hey Lanier, i own and love the edt and concentree and had no idea the edp was a jacked up variance of the edt and never bothered to try it and now i must, who knew? Was in the Chanel boutique today anticipating the new Boy and not surprised that it hasn't showed up here yet but on another oddity, Pour Monsieur edt was available in a lot of drug stores here in Canada till about 4 years ago. See you soon but don't make us wait so long!
+U Smells Good Cheers my friend...so the EDT is not available anymore in Canada? Oy !! Cheers Eugen always Always a joy to have you post a comment. Ciao
I have picked up a bottle of both edp and edt after your original pour monsieur review vidéo, Lanier! love both, and they are definitely different enough to warrant owning both. wonderful review once again!
A much-needed comparison of the three versions, and no one better to do it than you, Lanier, so that you for this! I found the EDP a little closer to the Concentree that you did, I believe, but I love the EDP's connection to the original EDT, as well. I tend to gravitate toward the EDT in warmer months and EDP in colder months, but they're both fantastic year-round, classic gems in my collection. Thanks again for your insight on these!
+landshark321 You know Landshark you just informed me and everyone else just how to approach both the EDT and the EDP... EDT=Spring.... EDP=Summer! Brilliant! Why didn't I think of that? Thank you SO much for turning on the light bulb over my head. Cheers!
+Lanier Smith I'm happy to have helped out! The spicier EDP (you note its great performance) definitely is a better cold weather performer. I do love smelling them side by side. They're on the same axis, just at different points. Such brilliant work by Chanel! -Eric
Like others have said, I also bought Pour Monsieur and the EC version after watching your previous video and I love them both. Great to hear that the EDP gives us a 3rd interpretation of this great scent. Thanks so much for the video Lanier, I always look forward to your views :-)
+Greggieboy76 thank YOU Greggie. I am so happy you are enjoying Pour Monsieur in its many forms. Each has charm and beauty and that wonderful sophisticated Chanel DNA. Cheers!
oh goody! a lanier made a video! way to start the weekend. I like how you depicted that natural sweetness vs. candy sweetness. my people get nervous about the word "sweet". splendid comparison!
+ShaveNontheDarkside Thanks so much! Yes I am not a fan of supper sweet. And here the sweet is like I said more like a compote or really delicious baked goods even. Oh boy I am flinging a craving on myself for a spritz or two of Pour Monsieur. Cheers my friend!
Well I finally got my nose on the EDP at Nordstrom and renewed my love for my former signature scent. The EDT Concentree frankly left me just a little flat...I think it's the oakmoss deletion/substitution or maybe I was just in a bad mood that day. However, the EDP is just delicious! Yes, I miss the oakmoss, but it makes up for that with that lovely multi-dimensional drydown. I wish I still had my 1980's vintage EDT to compare it with, but this is going to be getting a lot of wear. Thank you for prompting me to rekindle an old love.
DEAR Lanier, what a nice friend, Jim is! Love the cocktail and perfume sounds wonderful. so nice to have this community where we can learn and try new things, learning from each other! i do like the description of a compote sweet smell than the candy type. Cheers to you dear friend and to Jim! i hope you have a relaxing and wonderful weekend!
+ChanelLV dear M. You are the BEST. Love that you always have something charming, smart and wonderful to add to the conversation. Cheers and see you soon. coco coco coco
+Lanier Smith dearest Lanier you are such a wonderful man with a fashion bunker full of life and experience - your writing shows it all! So beautiful ....so thankful for your friendship and all that I learn from you! 😘🌹❤️big hugs and much love- Chanellv
Thanks for reviewing these. I still can't decide which one to purchase since I have no way of smelling them because I live in Medellin, Colombia. Which would you have purchased first if you just found all three today?
I just bought my first bottle of the EDP on Friday. I have a gig as a lounge singer in an old fashioned supper club that is frozen in time from 1955 (except the prices!) and I think it will be a great addition to the time warp that I try to achieve. I'm going to try it out tomorrow and see if anyone notices. Cheers and thanks for all you do on your great show.
OMG I would love to be there to see your show! Good luck and break a leg. And do let me know how the EDP went over ...and the show! Cheers BaritoneByNight.
Greetings from Scandinavia, Denmark to be more exact mr. Smith. I don't know if you will be reading this, since this video is three years old, but I enjoy your videos because of you style, choice of words and overall class. But back to the true star of the video. I have been sniffing the edp of this one a lot in the department stores in my city. I like it very much and to me it is a great example of the fragrance a grown man would buy. When he knows that he has outgrown childish things. Well that may be a bit exaggerated, but I believe you know what I mean.
Mark it took me 8 months to find your comment. So forgive me on that account. Thank you so much for you absolutely marvelous comment. You made my day. Cheers.
Great video ,dear man. Thank you ! I just read the book you suggested..." Scent & Subversion by Barbara Herman....Loved the book !!! It is a great reference book to have on hand.
Hello Lanier! I really like your videos. I started wearing Pour Monsieur sometime in the 80's because I absolutely loved the scent and how it made me feel. I haven't replenished my supply because I have the attention span of a dog looking at a shiny ball (Whoa! squirrel!) Anyway, I really disliked the EDT concentree, so CPM went by the wayside in favor of some other more shiny fragrances. Now that I have seen your and Super Dacob's opinions, I think it's time to visit the Chanel boutique! Thanks for your work!
Thanks so much shtupman! Have a ball at CHANEL. And let Dacob and me know what you got and how it went.Cheers...Oh look! More comments from you.... (OH look! A squirrel!)
What a fantastic review! Watched it after I had a swim at the community centre pool. Went straight to the Hudson's Bay Company and bought the last 2 bottles EDP. Nothing like the concentree at all. It's more like the edt with a light Aramis Tuscany element to it. It is a Gem indeed! Great nose work as usual Lanier!
I received samples of Pour Monsieur EDT and Egoiste a couple of days ago. I'm lucky to live in Europe where they're both readily available. I love them both. Pour Monsieur has something really classic about it. I don't know if you've sampled it, but it reminds me a bit of Eau Sauvage Parfum (2012), which is nothing like the original Eau Sauvage and has just 3 notes. I think that it's the vetiver. I know that Mr Smelly loves it too. I've gone through 3 bottles of it. I recommend trying it if you haven't already! As for Egoiste - I've just ordered a full bottle. There's something a bit naughty about it. The ladies love it. All hail Jacques Polge. I'd love to hear your take on it once you're back from your cruise!
Indeed all hail Jacques Polge! I love both of these great fragrances. I am not to keen on the new Eau Sauvage having loved and missing the original very much. Cheers Jack.
That "pour monsieur"!!! AHHHH!!!! Sounds delicious and looks even more delicious! WOW! WOW! WOW! I truly believed the eau de parfum to be the eau concentree just renamed!!! I am shocked! I never even really tried the eau de parfum seriously... I have the eau concentree and I do not like it... It bites me! Its acidic and its chemically agressive on my skin so I never really gave eau de parfum a shot but now I must! I simply must darling! Bolly and eau de parfum pour monsieur! This is insane! Why hasn't CHANEL said anything when they launched the eau de parfum? Sometimes these bits of information just defy all logic... WHat these fashion houses are doing is beyond me sometimes... BUT I must say I am super glad that you love eau de parfum! I shall run out and give it a serious try now! coco coco coco
+Super Dacob I know what you mean about the bite in the EDT (1989) version. But it isn't in the older EDT from the 70's that I grew up on, at least not for me. And not at all in the EDP... smooth and creamy. And that wonderful natural sweet ambiance at the end. I hope you review it Dacob so we can hear your thoughts on it. Will we agree or not...I will just have to wait and see. coco coco coco
No sweetie, I didn't mean the eau de toilette. I wrote: eau concentree bites me. The eau de toilette never bites me. Its always gentle on my skin. (no matter if it be the prereformulated version or not). xoxo coco coco coco
Its strange. I have been reading and reasearching extensively about this subject since yesterday after watching your video... so I still haven't tried the eau de parfum. But many people claim it is the same perfume as eau concentree... others shw CHANEL's PR answer letter to this question stating it is the same perfume but slightly modified due to new regulations and bla bla... some speculate CHANEL is just following the general trend of calling all intense version of perfumes for men "eau de parfum".... no clue... I am not any smarter today than I was ysterday... I will take my bottle of eau concentree with me to a CHANEL counter soon and will test them side by side ;) super ghetto of me, I know... but thats how we roll here in the fashion bunker :) I will let you know as soon as I discover more information :) coco coco coco
Roll on baby roll on! I would have taken mine too but I kept forgetting too do that. Look, it's like this; in my business, the Interior Design business, the designers bring in swatches and samples and paint chips and sometimes small pieces of furniture to use as tools to pick out a Nepalese rug... you have to used what ever tools you need to make a good choice in the Luxury department be it high end rugs or expensive perfume. I have heard the comparison to the EDT 1989 Concentree version...but to me no, it is more like the original that was called For Men when I bought it in 1971. I am on pins and needles until you test it out. coco coco coco
Thank you for the review. I have tried this perfume and it is lovely. So many perfumes! So little money with which to buy them! Choices must be made, but I have already added this one to my list. Have you tried YSL Noble Leather? I really like it. Have you ever felt tempted to pack your bags and move to Paris? Or London?
another great review lanier. doubl3 troubl3 would make a great cocktail lol just purchased a bottle of Armaf club de nuit intense. oh dear, Creed clone or not smells like fly killer on my skin. oh well, live and learn.
Oh dear...Fly Killer! Well you won't have to worry about flies this summer lol. Thanks so much and yes Double3 Trouble3 would be a great name for a cocktail. Yay!!
Original Pour Monsieur EDT has a superb oakmoss base which drifts along beautifully throughout the day. By comparison, the majority of other fragrances can appear severely lacking in quality. The concentree version smells totally different to me with an ambroxon edge to it that takes over. It is stronger, but it lacks the quality & substance of the original.
I have my own Champagne cocktail recipe. Use one part Krug Champagne, mix with two parts Krug Champagne, then add four parts Krug Champagne. Finish with a garnish of Prosecco (use only the highest quality prosecco or the cocktail will be ruined). If Prosecco is not available, use Krug Champagne.
+John David Seems I am luckier on that issue. It last about 6 hours on my skin and like I said in the review the EDP last to the next day. Cheers John!!
Lanier Smith When did thet EDP come out? I looked on Fragrantica, and didn't see anything. I apologize if I missed it in the review, I'm working and only had a chane to watch it with divided attention. Cheers back at you, my friend. I hope you're well.
Im sure Chanel have confirmed that the edp is just the etdc renamed. They have renamed all the edtc to edp. Including edition blanche and eau extreme. ive owned both and got no difference!?
