Have you seen the movie? What did you think?
Pour Out
By Lea Morris
Tears don’t always mean something’s wrong
Sometimes the words won’t fit in the song
Though you know you’ve got so much to say
And the moment keeps slipping away
Is this the right time, right now?
I’ve come such a long way to see you smile
It’s been such a long day and it’s been a little while
Since the sun was so high
I felt like I was flying
That’s why I'm crying
Fear might appear at every dawn
Respect its lessons and keep moving on
Oh you know you’ve got so much to give
And today is your one chance to live
This is the right time, right now
CHORUS
Don’t be afraid. Let the rain come down
Don’t be afraid. Let your truth pour out

Circling back here now after so many months mostly in hibernation…cocooning as I’ve often called it…grieving and practicing being in a deeply intense and healing way. I did see the Barbie movie a couple of months ago and although I never owned a Barbie and chose quite intentionally not to give them to my children, I felt strongly that Barbie was very much redeemed in my mind by this accurate and too-close-to-home movie. The defiant badassery and ways Barbie took on the patriarchy both inside herself and in the world was super inspiring. Here’s to growth, change, evolution, and transformation…even for Barbie! Thanks as always for the music. I’m headed to CCLT in a few weeks and will most definitely miss having you there too.🤗💝🌟

Thank you for sharing. I bought myself my first Barbie about 2 months ago when I found the athlete series at the dollar tree... an African American gymnast that made me think of Simone Biles. I wasn't allowed to have a Barbie growing up... It was strange to see Barbie yesterday with my Mom, both of us wearing our first Barbies on homemade necklaces... WOW... I haven't had 24 hours to process yet, but I completely understand why so many people I love and respect have seen and loved the movie. AND it was written by a UU!!! Blessings!

I saw the 'Barbie' movie with my parents and a friend, and I only enjoyed it because I went with them. However, I got too got up in all the costumes, backgrounds, and special effects. Your beautiful music is so much more interesting than the movie. The lyrics with your lovely voice are so up-lifting. Your conclusion is significantly more meaningful than the movie was to me. I've always had a very strange way of thinking of my own womanhood as I attended a private Catholic middle school in the late eighties where many of the boys got away with making fun of me non-stop for just being a girl (and non-Catholic), and therefore, a lesser being. Unfortunately, girls often turned on each other instead of befriending each other. I developed an addiction to the Sweet Valley High book series and made Elizabeth and Jessica into my imaginary best friends, and when my classmates would pick on me, I'd imagine going off with these young women who were a little older and more interesting than I was. Last night I watched 'Hidden Figures' with my parents- an awesome story and movie. Thank you for your wonderful song!

I did see it, reluctantly. I never had a Barbie (I had a Cinderella doll which was all I wanted), and I hated how objectified Barbie was as I got older. As the movie progressed I found myself intrigued and ultimately appreciative. Thx for sharing your process of birthing this song. You continue to inspire me. Thank you! ❤

Haven’t seen the movie yet, but I think I will, just to be sort of in the know of what other people are seeing. I can remember being very upset Barbie dolls ever since they came out. Guess I was already a feminist at that point! Remember, feeling like it was holding up this unreachable image for most girls, reinforcing all the focus on shapely and thin bodies. But I love your song, Lea, and, as always, I love your voice, and your style of performing everything!
