"Don't worry about breaking the car I really don't give a shit" This guy is way too nice. I would never let anybody do that to my baby let alone a M-Coupe.
More complicated than it needs to be? Sir! That is a BMW straight 6, and everything is just as it should be, so you just shut your pretty mouth about that and enjoy the power.
Fantastic to see you start in the Big Leagues, Mr. Type-R! I cannot wait to you blow up even more so as a Car Culture Personality! On another note, I was assisting a BMW tech at an old job on the VANOS system for this motor and boy, that work is close to the magnitude of open-heart surgery... One wrong move and the little tiny butterfly valve screw falls deep into the abyss, costing you a new engine if not found.
LA traffic is a bit more intense than i am used to, but looking at this, i could manage. curious mr RegularCars... what is your regular traffic driving like? (i imagine your daily drive isnt like on your reviews)
sounds like my home town. even during rush hour, not an issue to change lanes on our busiest street. got some nice long roads. perfect place for road testing cars... if i were a little more camera capable, lol.
impartial observer breezewood on the sunday after thanksgiving is a 3 hours wait at least. we had to get on teh turnpike from route 30, and even cutting on a back road and going down the trning lane the entire way through town to go to the next on ramp down the road (because it would of taken forever to get on the breezewood on ramp) we still had to sit there for an hour and a half to travel 1 mile
When I lived in the LA area while attending medical school, the car I drove was a Hyundai Accent hatch/6 speed manual. I maximized the most hp out of that car and I was confident when it came to dealing with LA traffic. If you ever have a chance to drive one, it will certainly surprise you.
This is the S54 which is the same engine as in the E46 M3 (2001-2006). Speaking of which, Mr. Regular - you should totally do an E46 M3 review. I believe you've done the E46 330ci but never an M3
Mr. Regular, I love your videos. The next time you come to Chicago there will be a F-150 Raptor waiting for you to do your occasional "no so regular" review.
LA Local: Previa's are totally a thing here, everywhere, even in 2015! It's great... love seeing older cars still driven daily. Wish there were more Ford Aerostar's though.
Can we please get this guy some driving lessons? It's cringeworthy watching this man do his POV drives. He's way too nervous and a lot of the time he can't make up his mind about what he is going to do or where he wants to go/be. These things cause accidents!
BMW has that stereotype to it, but a lot of BMWs actually aren't that hard to work on. Everything is typically packed in right but they actually do tend to have the bolts exposed and easy to reach. At least that was my experience with the e46, e39, and e36. Typically though your first time doing any job you will need a DIY or some sort of guide so you know where to start. But past that its all doable. The stereotype of BMWs is just that... a stereotype.
Gosh, you seem to come at every BMW with some negative presumptions (or is it assumptions? presumptions...huh.) I hope spending some time with with the cars and their owners gives you a more rounded perspective. Maintenance-wise, the longitudinal inline 6 layout, RWD, and long-hood proportions of most BMW's make them fairly easy to work on - the engine bay is usually much less crammed than a FWD/transverse-layout car of the same vintage.
Any chance you could cut the apologetic behaviour? I've really had enough of you constantly acting this meek and mild and timid persona. Just be normal please
I want a clown shoe so bad. I'm almost willing to accept the fact that it's a BMW... if there'd been an s2000 or miata shooting brake, or if the c30 had been rwd(ie if Volvo had never become just expensive fords) I wouldn't need one, but fuck I love the clown shoe.
It's really a bummer how much that car has appreciated. The cheapest 01 Coupe I could find on cars.com was over 50 grand... It only seems like a few years ago when I could find them for 15k.
Funny thing: It's easier to pull the S54 valve cover in a Z3M than in the bigger e46 M3. Don't have to remove the cabin air filter assembly to get to those last couple bolts. It's nice having a big schnoz sometimes :)
I don't get it why is the city traffic causing trouble? I learned to drive in NYC, and then I didn't drive for a long time. After a year or so I started to work in a car service where I worked almost a year and a half. I remember it was a little hard for me when I first got into Manhattan, but after couple times I got used to the driving in that borough.
The only thing that prevents me from buying a BMW is when the guys who make the car found out their parents were at Dresden and the car is bound for the states, am I paranoid?
2:07 , world smallest sunvisors. the man has obviously never seen a smart roadster:) come to think of it, has anyone in the US? it might be to euro for the US, it may have been to euro for europe..
M couple is a REALLY great looking car from the back. Huge hatchback fan, one of my favorite cars. Looks like the new Civic Type R just took the crown though. 7 minute Nuburgring? Yeah, that car is owning faces right now.
E21 through to E46 or so 3 series are all quite similar in chassis and engine layout and are all very easy to work on. Parts are interchangeable throughout the years in some cases and can be used for upgrades etc. There is a wealth of knowledge in the forums and a very hearty community. Many a wiki!
I really hope you do a complete review on this one... You also need to try the more easily obtainable S52 version (1998-2000.) The coupes (especially the ones with the S54) have skyrocketed in price, think I heard about one going for high 50's/low 60 grand!
My dream car. The weird practicality of that giant hearse-like trunk area in a sporty car with just two seats really appeals to me for some reason. The Z4M is more elegant but who needs elegance, really? I'm curious why independent throttle bodies make throttle response faster. Is it just that there's less distance between throttle and intake?
I really like the POV videos, but any chance your GoPro could be lower, more centered to the windshield? I get a little motion sickness from it being so close to the roof line.
It looks like you have buttons for the stereo mounted on the original wheel - is that true, and if so, would you mind telling me how you did it. Many thanks, D.
