Original 1978 behind-the-scenes documentary featurette on the making of "Damien-Omen II" featuring interviews with William Holden, Jonathan Scott-Taylor, and Harvey Bernhard.
Well, the first part is best and Damien so part II is good but III isn't so good, even awakening iv is better, i like iv also very much. But remake is sucked shit as remakes usually are failed.
Bruce Steveson " INDEED!.... This joined the pantheon of under-appreciated Horror sequels. Unfortunately, ' Damien: Omen II ' had the misfortune of premiering the year after ' Exorcist II: The Heretic ' sequel greatly bombed at the box office. Both failed to meet sniveling Hollywood critics and movie reviewer's unrealistic expectations following their original's huge success, during that era. Today's younger generations may not know, for decades, bad reviews could end or shorten film runs before some even reached ' the big screen ' . "
Bro... I was having a heart attack watching the ice scene.. behind the scenes. Imagine how EFFING COLD, scary, and unpleasant that must have been.. for that stunt double to do.
I really love damien's personality, he never was a sadistic child who only wants to kill all the people in the world like today's horror movie's kids. he was wise, polite and like a leader among the boys. he changed a lot after his friend's death.
Mersedeh M.H Damien’s cousin, and best friend Mark’s was the last straw. After his death it was if he didn’t care anymore. Mark was Damien’s humanity and moral compass. The book that came out about the time the film did said that mark and Damien were like brothers, closer than many twins. Up until then he had been fighting his destiny. When he lost the person he loved most when he lost his temper and used his power to kill him it was if his last tether to goodness and humanity was gone. Damien began to more and more fully embrace his true identity. Mark was his morality, his humanity and his conscience.
Damien, now a teenager, confronts his cousin Mark, and admits that he is the Antichrist. He asks Mark to join him, but when Mark refuses, Damien uses his satanic powers to kill him.
Jonathan Scott -Taylor performance as Damien the Antichrist was spectacular ! Especially the scenes when he shows no emotion while he wields his power .
I agree Omen 2 is my favourite of the trilogy. Love the way he doesn’t know but then finds out who he is. Plus I think the Mark/Damien dynamic is really good
Damien: Omen 2 was in fact slightly better because it correctly extrapolated and developed the salient motifs emergent in the first movie. With two of those salients motifs being ' born of a jackal ' and the Megiddo excavationalism / artifacts. It did not go meandering off into some half-assed other tangents.
Honestly, I am 13 yrs old and this is the only back then film that caught my attention ;w; the guy who played Damien in the 2nd, I found him pretty good looking :3
Yeah and i like his personality too, he never was a sadistic child who only wants to kill all the people like today's horror movie's kids. He was polite and wise even as a teen.
One of the epic sequels which inspired me to the core...be it Goldsmith's magical orchestral scores or the screenplay or the dialogues, everything is in place! A masterpiece
I went to this school. Northwestern military and naval academy. Or Davidson Hall. It was in lake Geneva Wi. They actually used room number 6 in the movie, mine was room #2 same wash hall/ bathroom and class rooms and cloths. What a ride down memory lane for me right now. I went there in the mid to late 80tys
I think that taking this actor for the role of Damien was just a great idea! In my opinion, of all the existing stories about antichrists, the image of Damien looks the most logical. A young devil shouldn't look like a devil, his appearance is a kind of beautiful deception, a magical veil behind which the true essence is hidden. The same with the character, he is not a crazy psycho killer who only wants blood and murder, he is restrained, educated, intelligent and therefore truly charismatic. Also, a little bit empathic. So Jonathan's image is cold and gentle at the same time, it's definitely a bingo! And the chemistry between him and Mark reminds me of black and white, they complement each other. Due to the selection of actors and details, I would call this film not just a horror film, but a very aesthetic thriller✨️
The Omen is my favorite movie of all genres specially the first one, but the Omen 3 (The Final Conflict) has a happy ending and the triumph of Jesuschrist over evil !
Yeh. That not right. Uncle Thorn to Damien Thorn who he adopted him after the death of his Brother Robert Thorn and his wife Katherine both killed by the power of Damian and his disciples. MARK his cousin and Lee Grant is his stepmom.
This is why movies of the past is so messed up (by that I mean amazing) "How are we gonna film a person under the ice?" "Lets just film a person under the ice." What a nightmare of a thought to want to do this for real. I'm surprised they didn't ask the actress if they could actually let a raven poke out her eyes for the film.
This was very likely influenced by the original director Mike Hodges. He was on the film for 2 weeks before Harvey Bernhard dismissed him for 'taking far too long' setting up shots such as the introduction shot of Damien with the flames in front of him. Hodges wanted to make an 'extravagant' sequel but Bernhard wanted the film shot quickly to make the release date so he got his good friend and actor Don Taylor to take over the directorial duties when Hodges left the production of his own accord rather than being fired by Bernhard.
The actor who played Mark Thorn, Lucas Donat, is the real life son of Waltons actress Michael Learned. Be great to see him interviewed about his memories of making this movie. Jonathan Scott Taylor also.
When I watch the Omen trilogy every year, this is the one I will watch first and then I’ll watch the first movie and then the third movie. I am more familiar with this one because I’ve seen it when I was 11 when it was released in theaters in 1978 and I watched it at a drive in. The first and third movies I watched later on VHS and paid cable TV. Now I have the DVD box set of all movie including the dreaded Omen IV.
I'm hoping this makes the new Scream Factory set.. they said today they intend to have a lot more special features especially on the sequels. Very excited, this one and part 3 are overdue for new ones.
Jonathan Scott-Taylor is by far my personal favorite Damien Thorn. While he was evil incarnate, he was capable of caring, showing affection, friendship and human emotions. His performance had the audience rooting for him to somehow escape his fate. Even though he was the villain of the story, he certainly was a sympathetic one.
Richard Donner who directed the original was suppose to direct this one as well but was filming ‘Superman The Movie’ & most of ‘Superman II’ in 1977 & 1978 until he was fired by the tightwad producers of both films.
Lee Ayers was an amazing actor/stunt man! Very brave to do that! No amount of money wud persuade me to do a stunt like that! Kudos to him and RIP to a great actor Lew Ayers who also starred in anotha one of my top fave 1970s movies salems lot!
Both named Robert. But two different people. I leaned towards that mix up myself but never conclusively thought it was the same actor. Just one of those things which I just never had it clear. Robert Foxworthy as distinct from Robert Reed.
I like to think its only after he accepted his literal father lord and savior that is heart turned black and it became easier to eliminate those in his way. Favorite scenes are the confrontation with Mark and the moment his aunt kills to defend him and she is burned. Her yelling out his name in adoration and religious favor was priceless.
William Holden was an art collector. With that it then occurs that such might have had a direct or inadvertant input into the production. One or more of the film production team came around to his place asking him what he thought of the script, noticed his art collection, had a chin wag with him about it, then something clicked, with either him or them, then a snap of the fingers, pointing of the index finger, " You know what ? This give me an idea. There's all of this collection, but if we cook up something off the Megiddo excavation / Revelation motif. ". And so they get some arty snot to put together a Whore Of Babylon figurine, Then, " Let's personalise Damien himself into this somehow - to nail it. ". Excavations, so its gotta have an ancient or medieval look. So some artist conjures up searing Damien images on some rock slabs. " Doo doo doo dah dah dah, There - how's that ? ".
Oh boy this franchise yes its about the Antichrist but I'll say the acting was good I really thought the actor who played him in the second film was really good and I think the best actor to play the role in that original trilogy.
A briliant franchise, as I, II and III were realy good but the 4th is forgotten because it was so bad. The acting was much better than it is today along with the attention to detail. They didn't need CGI back then either.
Has anyone seen the series Damien that was a few years ago but now on Hulu? It show you what Damien would have been like if his followers had not shown him his destiny as a young teen.
At the end of Ómen 1 It appears Damien is now under the care of the US president but this wasn’t picked up in Ómen 2. Not sure why but it was a rewrite of the ending of Ómen 1.
