That’s the truth. We used to take our dog to day care a couple times a week and we would board him occasionally. It was pretty affordable, the boarding wasn’t much more than what the vet charged to just leave him in a kennel the majority of the time. They posted pics on fb often enough that I felt comfortable that my dog was getting plenty of playtime. We started doing this in late 2019. Since then, they have literally tripled the price of daycare and they’ve stopped posting pictures. When we board him, I have to message them to make sure he’s okay. For the price they’re charging for boarding, we could literally pay for him to have his own hotel room. Daycares in the bigger city closest to us have live webcams you can check to see how your dog is and their prices aren’t that different to our smaller town daycare now. We’ve stopped sending him bc it feels like they lowered the quality but want to charge us more. It sucks haha

Sounds like you two were too soft and casual with your business. Have to dictate your terms and not be afraid to enforce policy or pushy people will think you're a pushover and always try to take advantage. Not that difficult to say no to book reading or excessive photos by pointing them to a limited selection of services you offer. Charge extra for special services to make it worth the time/effort.

@@dontdiefornyash2609your correct. This lifestyle allows my wife to home school our kids and was our exit plan for her retirement from the navy. Now we’re all together which the kennel allows. She gets to manage her dream job. It teaches a lot to our kids too. Our older kids get have said that the younger kids won’t remember our military life and only know living in the country working with animals. It also allows us to employ people with a good job that makes them happy too. So you are 100% correct.

Including the place, all the stuff for the dogs, property taxes , electricity, water and gas. The licenses and laws.

For most start-up to start you need an investment or a loan. Id say what this video doesn't show is that it's a lifestyle and a lot of work to maintain standards, health of the dogs and hygene in the facility. And when do you take holidays?

You don't need to start with 40 dogs. You literally can start with your neighbor's dog for 20 bucks a day

Yeah also there's no way they actually make $2500 in profit a day, more like turnover. Even with fantastic margins this is at most a 300-400K annual profit business, which is great but not uncommon in small medium enterprises.

Nothings easy work hard and believe in yourself things actually do happen when you stop being the employee and start being the boss!!!

It also helps to make sure the dogs are well socialized!

I'm pretty sure they don't. Because some of the dogs don't leave in the evening, so they literally have them 24/7. It's exhausting, especially if some are misbehaved, anxious, needy, rumbunctious or whatever else there is.

I did an internship at the same type of business when I was 13... It wasn't much work at all. The owner of the place let the dogs in and out as they played on their own, gave them food, let them out and in again. Perhaps walked a dog if they wanted to, but wasn't necessary. And in the afternoon they also did grooming some days which was more work. If it was possible to make $2500/day where I'm at, I'd do it instantly, but regulation is too much here and there's too many dog daycare centres already since it's so easy, so it won't make much money

Impossible to tell what they are doing, however for me, we are on track to do 1.4 million in revenue this year, however we have a very established pet resort that has been around 15 years. If you make a 25% margin then you're doing pretty good. You should shoot for 30 or higher though. It is a HIGHLY labor intensive business. That is where your money goes. If you control your labor costs you can def make some decent money though.@@simonsaysthis9581

You seem a bit slow so ill give you a short list: Rent / mortgage, property tax, electricity, water/sewage, gas, internet, phones, insurance for employee injury/pet injury/damage to facility, dog food / toys and expendables, facility related stuff like beds, cages, computers, salary for employees. All these costs increase YOY whilst youll find a hard time increasing your fees. There's a reason MOST of the doggy daycare places look like absolute dumps, they are expensive to run and aren't very profitable.
