Our oil drain plug is right above a metal support beam so you can’t get a pan or funnel under it without getting oil everywhere. Nice.

I know this is years old, but I think oil level is normally checked with the oil stick screwed all the way in. If that is true, then you've overfilled your block. With the way your filler is set at an angle, that probably does not make much difference - I expect that it is almost impossible to overfill it to the point where it caused damage. My generator has the filler almost vertical, so the difference between the dip stick screwed in and not screwed in is probably about half a quart and I expect that that would damage the engine if I ran it that way.
