She's black lol they as a brand hate diversity and only included Cyborg begrudgingly since they can tolerate straight black people but going outside of that is really pushing it. It's worse than Perlmutter over there, exclusivity is part of their culture lol
I miss Tanya, I remember where I was when first I read the article of her soon first appearance as Power Girl. Missed your characters Explained videos. It's like those Bios from comics, books or trading cards but narrated and more detailed. Thanks for bringing it back!
@@SageOfLimitlessHandsyep. She has so much potential. Just give her a new name and her own legacy and market her more.. Duke, Tanya, Natasha, Bolt deserved better. Naomi had lots of promise but they escalated her to high too fast. Her story was actually pretty good but flamed out after her show crashed
@Blackstorm99 Yeah the show did Naomi no favors and I really don't understand why it has been so hard to write female characters for the industry. Honestly had Tasha been given her own thing from jump I feel like they wouldn't have had any reason to bury her literally and figuratively and may have found a home like the way Miles did but better given she would have her own persona. Biggest crime is that at no point have they had Miles say "since Peter exists in 616 I probably shouldn't call myself Spiderman. Not only does it show signs of maturity for Miles being able to move out of the shadow of Peter and into his own like Dick did as Nightwing.
@@SageOfLimitlessHands exactly. Miles is a kind of an anomaly because he filled a void Spiderman fans have been looking for since Peter grew up out of high school . Black female characters struggle because they keep the same way. They insert a lot of themselves I. The characters. Naomi should have broken the mold but her show made her uninteresting. They need to create a black woman villian with a unique powerset that can take on people like Magneto, Storm, Jean grey etc and make her evil.
@Blackstorm99 Well I would say the void came when Peter died in the Ultimates universe and it was good because he was so unique in comparison. He wasn't the genius Peter was, he had different kind of struggle even in regards to family, he had different abilities. He was set up perfectly in his own universe. Honestly instead of a unique power set, I think they should give her the ability to cancel put other abilities basically turning anyone she fights into a normal human level enemy forcing heroes to just rely on skills which she has in spades as far as combat ability goes. I wouldn't say she has to be a genius like Reed, just a good enough tactician to dominate most.
Thank you for the character spotlight, Ernie! I only know her from Priest's Deathstroke series, and even then, I never read the whole run, much less 40-some odd issues. I wish that instead of growing (kind of a boring power for modern readers), she had some kind of energy projection/absorption ability. Doesn't have to be anything on the Kryptonian power-scale, but it would round out her other Power Girl-given powers nicely. Whatever happened to the device that granted her those powers? Can someone else get a hold of it? Does it only work once? Does she have a rogues gallery (or even just one rogue)? You mentioned she was buried, while her consciousness reached out to find Power Girl... does this mean her physical body is actually still buried? Wow, no wonder DC has forgotten about her.
Sir, thank you, thank you thank you. I just stumbled upon your chin and I never knew this version of power girl existed. Thank you for going in depth with her character, her powers and her backstory. I instantly subscribed, I look forward to more of your videos
HEY, WAIT A SECOND HERE! Since when was it that the mantle of Power Girl has also been passed on?! I think that the original is sexy enough, not that I’m complaining.
She's way too op. I believe they're going to have a hard time writing stories with her in it soon because of how strong she is now. Still good to see her again.
I am hoping some scans are just pics of the wrong character because some pics have her looking like she just has a tan and not black. And what’s up with blue eyes??
DC artists are extremely out of touch lol. Don't y'all remember what happened with Cyborg and his actor on set? They're living in their 1950s fantasy world
love love LOVE these type of showcase videos! i just love seeing under used black character highlighted like this and i love Tanya. can we please get one on Duke Thomas/The Signal next? I made and have maintained a wholeass fandom wiki dedicated to him (which i do need to update 😅) if that'll help! the kid goes so underserved even though he's potentially the most power Batfamily character ever; and I feel the only reason he isn't treated as such is because he's not a Bruce Wayne lookalike like the other batboys.
Tanya is extremely interesting. The writers/creators made her extremely powerful in strength & durability whether human size or giant size, but with limitations based on laws of physics (i.e. no textile field maintaining large objects from breaking under weight pressure) and human characteristics (i.e. her eyes can be blinded by bright lights.) I hope to see her character maintain her strengths and weaknesses, and how she calculates what she CAN and CAN NOT do such as fly. There are way TOO MANY superheroes who lift tremendous weights (displaying tactile field powers --- as an overused & unexplained "plot device") --- that keep things from buckling or breaking from stress by their own weight, so to see her have upper echelon strength and law of physics limitations is INTRIGUING & REFRESHING in the world of comics. Batman & Mr. Terrific would know her strength, limitations, and utilize her appropriately and teach her to be mindful of her limitations. 👍🏽
She's a great character ,I Blerd I was also wondering if you could do a Video on Black vigilantes like Darkwing from Image comics,Blackwing from DC Comics Earth 2 and even Orpheus he was discontinued but a great character from the 2003
I have never heard of this character before today. Not a big DC reader, but still strange since I’m usually at least aware of a lot of their characters. ~_~
So did her powers activating also activate her melanin??? Yall see how light her skin was and curly/straight red her hair was? Suddenly she got powers and her skin darkened and hair kinked up and darkened as well 😂😂⁉️
Yes because DC used to be even more blatantly racist than Marvel (ie Storm getting blacker over the years but they were open about wanting to correct a mistake) and they're only just now somewhat compassionate in their writing but they still don't like writing lgbt stories unless it's Harley x Ivy or Midnighter x Apollo lmao
I really loved the Earth 2/ World’s Finest titles. It’s a shame that since the Rebirth soft reboot they threw out a lot of the good stuff from the New52 era.
I'm loving this expansion of the black superhero... ❤❤🎉🎉🎉.. it activates my creativity spectrum 😂😂.. but I've been looking into this superhero who's black called the great ludini idk . If I'm tripping but I can't find shit!!😢😢😢😅😅😅... Loving your channel subscribed!!!❤
Naming her Power Girl was the first mistake. Since her power set is so diverse, (growing in size and strength), why not give her her own name and book?
Where did the Kryptonian Power Girl get money from? Does she have a secret identity like Superman? I don't know anything about her so I don't know how the legal thing worked. Also I like Tanya's design. I want to read about her.
She was sent away from Krypton as a teenager. She has access to tech from the Fortress of solitude. She is pretty much a genius by earth standards. Pre crisis she made her money in software (StarrWare). I’m guessing she took a similar tech entrepreneurial approach in the New52. Also she was BFF with Helena Wayne, so what’s a couple million dollar loan between friends?
She was not sent away as a teenager she was sent away as a baby same as clark but she was educated in her rocket and arrived when clark was in his 50s a was adopted by clark and lois of earth 2
I hope Tanya Spears eventually returns from comic book limbo. As others pointed out, her powers were different enough from the original that she wasn't a copycat. If you are going to name a new character after an already established superhero or even supervillain, make them distinct enough from the original in terms of powers and abilities so that they bring something new to the table aside from the color of their skin. This is why I can't stand characters like Red Canary even though she is Asian just like I am. Make new characters unique instead of a mere copycat of the original.
Yeah Yuh keep waiting Racism doesn't care DC will NEVER have any People of Color as a Main Character in NO movie theater on screen EVER NOR will Marvel Blade and Black Panther were nice But someone equivalent to a Superman NEVER OR NOT in my Lifetime
