Progressive Dictatorship of Canada he clearly didn’t listen to her because he was to busy talking over her, how we going to have open conversations if that’s happening? Listening skills are important
@Progressive Dictatorship of Canada Why would anyone in their right mind want polluting industrialization in their pristine backyard. You're not helping anyone by degrading yours or anyone else's environment. It's better to do everything you can to preserve the natural world and realize that humans are not the be-all and end-all of life on the planet but do have the responsibility of taking care of it for future generations.
Wet. selling their heriditary rights of safety for money. Natural disasters will happen no amount of money will fix that. Look at the slides from flooding what next? Earthquake?
Curator she must be getting paid decently for it lmao of course she’s not worried about the pipeline none of these reporters are doesn’t stop them from getting paid
@@kenclow4274 Ross made himself look like a fool by losing his cool. He came across as a bully boy with his ridiculous antics. It's hard to take anyone seriously when they act like he did. Palmater didn't agree with his take on the situation so he lost it and got angry and rude. His dismissal of her concern for the environment wasn't a smart move either.
Both debaters are " fenceposts " ( to use your analogy ) … steadfast in their positions . Ellis Ross is putting forth the perspective of the band councils who are in support of allowing fossil fuel energy projects to occur on their reserves . Take note of how Ellis Ross refuses to respond to Pam Palmater's explanation for why the traditional governances do not want a pipeline . He closes the debate down when Pam is about to explain the ecological impact that the pipeline will have on the Wet'suwet'en territory . If you can understand the history of the conflict between the Indian Act band councils and the traditionalists , then , Tyler , you will be able to offer legitimate opinions on this debate .
@@miles6593 Thank you Miles for getting to the substance of the debate. Personal attacks either as debaters or commenters do not advance things at all.
She is great, keep her on TV, every median possible...a complete annoying lunatic professional nutcase!!! He speaks the truth and its fantastic...he is the voice of reason.
" WOW . WOW WOW... and further more WOW !!!!!" said Pam the Lawyer ($$$$$) who supports the few Heritage Chiefs who drive the New Pick up Trucks. " WE want independence to work with Industry to raise ourselves from Poverty to Prosperity!!" said Ellis the BC MLA and former Council Chief.
Just listening to these 2, one would gravitate to what the gentleman was saying, she list all cred when she started blithering about climate change. Clearly the climate change alarmists couldn't give 2 hoots if Canada , as a whole, became impoverished
So, an indigenous person has to look like they "live on a reserve" in order to speak on indigenous issues? And what does that look consist of? Does Ellis Ross look that way?
RULE OF LAW DICTATES THAT "CGL" WORKERS MUST BE ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH TRESPASSING ON UNCEDED(NON-TREATY) FIRST NATION LAND...THE CROWN, CANADA, BC, THE COURTS, THE RCMP ALL HAVE NO JURISDICTION(NO AUTHORITY) ON UNCEDED(NON-TREATY) FIRST NATION LAND...SO THE RCMP ARE NOT LAW ENFORCEMENT THEY ARE HIRED SECURITY...SO "CGL" SHOULD BE PAYING THEIR WAGES...
You are onto something there , Adam . And we need to keep the workers who are working in the fossil fuel industries out of poverty , too . The vision which needs to be implemented is a transition from a fossil-fuel-based economy to a renewable-energy-based economy and where the challenges of the transition for workers is mitigated with the help of the provincial and federal governments . Such a revolutionary transition will require the prime minister to provide a plan ( a vision ) to help these workers through the transition to jobs which provide the same standard of living they had before if not better . Unfortunately , our current prime minister is not providing that most needed vision which workers in the oil patch provinces need to hear and see . The vision really does start with the prime minister of our country . Why is he not providing it ? He has no ministers holding any parliamentary seats in any of the oil patch provinces ; so , it is really up to him to confer with the premiers of Alberta , Saskatchewan , and Manitoba on a plan to kickstart the transition into renewable energies . Maybe , just maybe , the indigenous protesters across the country will inspire more Canadians ( non-indigenous citizens ) to rethink such national projects like TMX i.e. fossil fuel projects . As of today's date , the IPSOS polls indicate that approximately 40% of Canadians support the indigenous protests . That poll shows an upward trend and I personally would claim that these indigenous issues are not going to go away silently into the night . An increasing support from Canadians on indigenous issues could give the mandate that the prime minister seems to be waiting for in order to talk with more power to the oil patch provinces and to the fossil fuel corporations to finally promote a plan of transition .
Typical lawyer...................and if she said "WOW" one more time I would have punched my screen. Way to go Ellis....he feels the same about "Climate change" as I do....
Martin Lenff : according to her own standards, she “earned” her “education” & “degree(s)” under colonial suppression which, by her own standard, is invalid & worthless.
She literally has a BA, LLB, LLM, and JSD with extensive research on these specific issues. Dr. Palmater was clearly more articulate, well versed, and experienced than Mr. Ross in this debate without question.
Letters after her name merely means she stayed long enough for the diploma. How do you demonstrate that someone is more well versed and experienced in a conversation?
So glad to see someone finally speak to that pathetic Pam the way she deserves to be spoken to and the icing on the cake was that he was also indigenous
The fact that he is indigenous is not the icing, it is the cake. Not saying he "won", but I'd like to hear a more in-depth and civil version of this debate.
According to Satistics - Canada, the average first nation person's salary is $23.000 a year and if they have postsecondary qualifications it's $33,000 a year. So i do agree with Mr Ross.
I will say that while everyone dislikes Palmater's style, I was more appalled by how rude, condescending and disrespectful Ross is. Even if he thinks she's speaking nonsense, it is absolutely unacceptable to talk over her constantly and say things like "I thought this was going to be a real debate". She did not cut him off or speak over him, and even if it was rude of her to say "wow", it's nothing compared to how he treated her.
A tenured professor make about 80k to 100k a year at least (Like this lady). Thats why your tuition fee keeps hiking and most of them go like garbage disposal.
@@AnalEyesAnalyzeAnalLies-666 well as concrete on her position as she sounds, you'd think there's more to do than get a tan was the joke, but do as i say, not as i do
Some obnoxious disrespectful and loud Ryerson Prof from Toronto is the best they have to represent the against side? She’s never even stepped foot in this region, the arrogance! I think it’s pretty clear who’s on the right side here. Well done Ellis, you are obviously the reasonable one here.
Let me see.The government's First Nations Financial Transparency Act says Chief's salary is from $64,000 to above $900,000 at the top of the list. The average Librarian n Canada $68,000 up to 86,000. one more thing the average Canadian salary is about $55,000 a year according to Stats Can:
How is it possible that a pipeline bullied into Wet. land suffers a slide or flood that spills onto their territory be up for debate. This needs to be rerouted for safety reasons.
9:00 min- you can’t come up with a anti poverty solution that evolves the destruction of the environment- so it’s not about the First Nation people’s it’s about the environment.
Setting fire to the railroads and pouring gas from a Jerry can .would be a sin if the terrorists set themselves on fire with there dangerous moves and burning tires and cars .university kids are definitely not to bright.
If you had a working brain you would know that there are far more below average intelligence humans on the planet than smart ones. Hence the plethora of stupid comments whenever the topic is an Indigenous issue or climate change. Looking forward to a whole lot of thumbs up y'all.
Pam is a professional Indian. Makes a fine living off of these disputes. She’s an ivory tower university prof, out of touch with average indigenous peoples.
Unbelievable; the consistency of when you're watching these sort of debates between an intellectual and an emotional, the intellects are always thinking/processing vs dead eyes
