Why and when to Power Rake / Dethatch A Lawn. There are a few things that need to be looked at before aggressively dethatching / power raking a lawn. Starting with a rake, pulling a small sample area to see your dead matter load. Choices would need to be made at this point, is it excessive thatch? Is it minimal? Power raking can damage and thin turf our incredibly by pulling healthy growing grass along with the dead. This can give way for excessive weeds if your grass isn't strong or dense enough when it's all said and done.
I have a few tools with me today, the groundskeeper rake, standard rakes, a Sun Joe Dethatcher and Scarifier, and N-ext D-thatch. I did into the soil and turf role of processing clippings and dead matter so give you a subsurface look at what's going on.
I hope you enjoy the infotainment!
