Hey don't hate! Dulcea was originally Mariska Hargitay and she is AWESOME! the only reason Im glad they recast is because had they not, she may not be the woman we know as Olivia Benson today! YAY MARISKA! she's bigger than all of them now! NEVER GIVE UP :-)
Some people don't know the blue ranger was actually gay and made fun of by some of the crew, but somehow he fought through it. When seeing behind the scenes footage, this is actually easy to see.

This is the stuff David Yost talked about in an interview I saw on "No Pink Spandex" He said he wasn't sure if anybody still had this footage, here it is, cool.
Unused footage, because of Mariska Hargitay playing Dulcea, was made of Dulcea training each ranger individually. At 0:01, is a rehearsal scene of Dulcea training Billy as the wolf is supposed to have heighten senses to guide it. So Billy should be able to stop attack on him without getting hit. At 5:23, Dulcea training Tommy as the falcon never struggles with the air and becomes one with it. So he should be able to soar across the lake easily without falling in. At 6:33, I believe it's supposed to be Dulcea training Rocky as the scene called for a 20ft pole. The ape is supposed to be strong but also flexible and free. So he is supposed to get to the top easily. At 7:53, Dulcea is training Kimberly as the crane is supposed to maintain it's agility through the perfect harmony of mind, body and spirit. So Kimberly should be able maintain her balance on that log without falling into the pond. When training Adam, she was supposed to let loose a swarm of insects and catch every one of them with her hands. The frog is supposed to stay still and then move quickly when it sees it's prey. So Adam should be able to catch every insect without missing. When training Aisha, Dulcea was supposed to have her aardvark like friend charge into her and she did not fall. The bear is supposed to be sturdy like a towering tree so nothing can uproot it. So Aisha should be able to maintain her sturdy stance and not be moved when Dulcea's aardvark friend runs into her.
love this footage, thank you. so few people know about this, with the Blu-ray just released, I am striking up the conversation again about Mariska Hargitay's time with the production.
Gabrielle Fitzpatrick was the original choice for Dulcea but when filming had started, she needed an emergency operation and the role was giving to Mariska Hargitay. After reviewing all the footage, the producers decided that Hargitay didn't fit the role so the role was given back to Fitzpatrick. However, there wasn't time to reshoot the scenes where Dulcea was training so the whole training sequence had to be cut from the film. Also because of her operation, Gabrielle Fitzpatrick became unable to have children.
lol sounds like it really exist a power ranger curse - so many actress from power rangers died or are in prison - died like trini, zordon, rita ,2 red rangers, ernie and many others.. its a curse
Thats not why Mariska was replaced at all. Gabrielle was their first pick yes, but Mariska was doing a great job. They fired her because she went home for Christmas to be with her family. Jan 3rd came through and she called them excited to come back and they told her "oh sweety don't worry about it" basically and canned her. She was there for all of November and up to December 21st.
So many questions and complaints on these videos...I just want to say thank you for uploading this!! I have had an awesome Sunday night watching this stuff!!
My little heart would have exploded in excitement had I seen this as a kid. By the way even though I know it's her. It just doesn't at all look like Mariska.
Gabrielle Fitzpatrick's face looks much fiercer than Mariska Hargitay's, which supports her role as Dulcea, the master warrior of Phaedos. However, I think the costume worn by Mariska looks better than Gabrielle's.
@Batman8127 From what I can gather, the castmates rallied around him at this time, even though the people behind the scenes were trying to divide them by calling them into offices to discuss his orientation. I've also been told that JDF was one of his biggest supporters.
I was there when they filmed this I didnt know it was PR tho I kinda said cool a movie and walked on later me and my friend were going through the city and just about bumped in to amy jo i was like hi she smiled and waved. Ah memories I was 16 :) Didnt see any others probably in the limo all ready
It's weird how that producer guy said David Yost didn't talk to or get along with anyone when clearly in these videos he's conversing with the others like close friends. Was the producer lying to cover his own ass?
Here's a fun fact...Mariska Hargitay from "Law & Order: SVU" is playing Dulcea in these clips after the original actress had to drop out due to health issues. Producers thought Mariska didn't really look the part (though I say...it's a kid's movie; they wouldn't have noticed) and so when the original actress was healthy and available they reshot pretty much everything
Its not dangerous, this isn't fishing line we're talking about here, they thoroughly test the cables and know how much tension they can withstand, their weight doesn't even come close. Plus they have other fail safes in place. The only think they were in danger of was getting sick from going up and down for hours.
@colombo259 Gabrielle Fitzpatrick was the original Dulcea, then she got sick & had to have surgery, then they brought in Mariska Hargitay, but then they decided to cut out all of what they filmed & then Gabrielle was ready to come back for the final shooting (when she gives them their powers in the Ninjette temple.)
This is so sick. this bts footage excited my inner childhood. Although it is kinda funny. On the one hand it looks like their was alot of training/fighting sequences that were removed that in my opinion could have made the film better then it already was. However before viewing this I had heard the stories about how their were supposed to be some evil rat creatures that attack the rangers and at 8:33..... yeah I can see why they cut them from the film. Still this is so cool!!
The woman who played her in the movie was the original choice but before they started filming, she had to have emergency surgery so they were forced to recast Dulcea. They recast Dulcea with Mariska Hargitay. But after reviewing the footage, the producers decided she didn't fit the role so they gave it back to the original actress who had now recovered from surgery but there wasn't time to reshoot the scenes of them training and all the existing footage of it had Mariska in it making it all unusable so it had to be cut from the film.
Sometimes they were people in suits, other times they were puppet esk rigs, depending on the shot. In general its a guy in a suit during fights, and puppets (around 3 feet tall) during the transformation sequences.
Jeez! How many takes did they do of that 200ft wire bird scene? First of all, that's really high and dangerous. Second(actually part of first), if the wires snapped...still it was a risk worth taking and I'm glad no stuntsman was harmed during that shot.
@dragonrose22 I think he was buff from day one really. Its just that early on the producers only let him wear those goofy overalls and shirt that kept it all hidden. He pushed for different clothes and they finally gave in.
If you watch the interview of David Yost aka Billy from Power Morphicon 2012, which is some where on RU-vid, David says that he always had them but they put him in the big bulky clothes and he even had bigger biceps than Jason David Frank aka Tommy.
by the time the movie come up? Kinda, yeah. But she wasn't cut, she, Austin and Walter quit when they refused to pay all the rangers equally. (they were paying the popular actors more for the same work, and that lead to them quiting)
Nope. Jason David frank does in fact sky dive, and maybe others do too, but for the movie they did not. What you see in this video is them attached to a rig. In the movie they had stunt doubles do all the cool moves, use green screen and the actors for close ups of their faces, and some shots of them in the rig for the landing shots.
@TopCityPrince Well, Jason David Frank Does skydive (or did at the time), but no, none of them did in the movie. It was wirework for the close ups and landing, and stuntmen for the free fall bits.

@hershjeff I think that's a safe bet -- I watched an interview (filmed last year I think) where he talked about how he and Amy Jo Johnson (Kimberly) got along great and are still in touch; he said she's like a sister to him. And then he told a story about how Jason David Frank (Tommy) would play practical jokes and they were always laughing. These behind the scene vids show the complete opposite of angsty, ungrateful, sourpuss they said David was. I don't buy the producer at all.
So... were all the Dulcea scenes completely re-written?? Because that set is unfamiliar, the shot of her balancing is unfamiliar, those giant rats are unfamiliar. What happened?
This is footage shot before the producers reviewed it. The scene with the rats. Ivan Ooze was originally supposed to say, "So Zordon's still using a bunch of rugrats to do his dirty work," and turns a group of rats into giant monsters. The producers thought it looked way too stupid so it was axed and replaced with ooze warriors. Gabrielle Fitzpatrick(Dulcea in theatrical release) was the original choice to play Dulcea but when filming started, she needed to have an emergency operation so the role was then given to Mariska Hargitay(Liv on Law & Order SVU). When they met Dulcea, they were supposed to be brought to a special ninja compound, Dulcea's home where Dulcea would train them each individually in the ways of the ninjetti based on their animal spirits. They spent weeks shooting the scenes. But when the producers reviewed it, they didn't think Hargitay fit the role of Dulcea so she was fired. By then Fitzpatrick had recovered from her operation, so the role was given back to her. However, this made all the of the ninjetti training footage unusable because it all had Hargitay in it as Dulcea. There wasn't time to reshoot it so the whole ninjetti training sequence had to be axed from the film. Also, the set of Dulcea's compound had also been almost completely demolished because the crew thought they were done using it. They didn't have the time or the money to rebuild it so they had to improvise and used what was left of it and called it the ancient ruins of the ninjetti temple.
@Batman8127 Its not just a wikipedia entry, search David Yost no pink spandex, you'll see a 3 part interview with him where he talks about it in detail. And actually being gay has a lot of to do with it in this case. He left because producers were harassing him about it.
Why would they cover up David's physique on the show with the overalls? He's got the best shape out of all the rangers, plus he's a professional gymnast! Why hide it with overalls and lensless glasses? He could still look like a techie without all that stuff. That's why I liked Billy better in the movie and the 3rd season of MMPR because they finally got rid of them and now he looks as buff as the rest of the team.
You people need to keep up with the times go look up David Yost on google he has legal Partnership with a MAN!!! I wouldn't put this out there if it wasn't true, as I am a huge fan of David.
People like jason David Frank and Austin were getting paid more than, say, Thuy and Walter. Austin was one of the popular ones but he stood by them in hopes of scaring the producers into higher pay. which didnt work obviously. they thought it was a bluff when they theatened to quit.

They actually showed the giant rat costumes, which were going to be the henchmen instead of the Tengu, I'm glad because those rats looked too childish and silly.
they were supposed to be there instead of His ooze creations, though I suspect they were going to be made from normal rats as they were in return of the green ranger. They cut them because they looked too low budget.
Popular actors? Do you mean some of the other actors on that show were getting paid more for the same work or you mean other actors not from that show? Who were more popular than them on that show?
Hey! where's Thuy Trang? Was she cut at this stage of the show? Power Rangers was worth watching because of her! She was a unigue and interesting person to watch and know about on the screen! R.I.P. Thuy, we all love and miss you! :-(

You weren't replying to anyone specifically so should I assume your talking about the gay thing? like I said before, its not just a wiki entry, you can hear it from the horses mouth right here on youtube. Also, wiki is right more often than it is wrong and is a great resource, so long as check its sources.
