Me, too! I'm definitely going to look hard at Makse Life, because I feel I reflect and plan too much and don't actually get much done! I will be using another planner so I'm interested in the Makse Life notebook that's coming out. Did you get a chance to preview that item, Laken?
As a non-religious person, I was caught off guard by the relatively heavy religion tones in the PowerSheets (and community). It wasn’t a deal breaker for me, but I do think it’s something for people to be aware of. I did find a secular PS Facebook group.
@@KittyFergusonLCSW the PS themselves didn’t bother me. The community and some other items sold by Cultivate What Matters definitely gets more faith based than I expected. Good luck setting goals! :)
Eek! Thanks for the head’s up. As an atheist, I find the constant references to religion in the planning community as a whole as being... 😳😬😳😬 There are a few YT’s who I enjoy but I find myself skipping through portions of the videos as they start droning on about “faith planning.” It makes me wonder why only religious people need planners...?? 🤔 I want to find the Atheist Planner channel and just hang out there. No mention of Bible verses in sight!
I'm actually looking at switching from Powersheets to Makselife. While I like the Prepwork, I feel Powersheets are more geared towards the Christian wife and mother. I feel this pressure to answer questions about what will matter when I'm 80 with responses about relationships and service. The truth? My tending lists never reflect that. Plus, the tending list process is SO in-depth, but it's only once a year. I think I'd benefit more from having a shorter prepwork most of the time, but with more regular check-ins. (I haven't eliminated the idea of buying an occasional undated Powersheets or clearance Powersheets JUST for a prepwork refresh. I'm not sure I'd need to do it annually, but it could be nice. Also, weekly/daily goals stress me out- especially during weeks where we have days in two months. Where does the week of May 30-June 5 fit in a tending list? In May? In June? Do you take the week off? Do you keep it in May and start your June daily items on Monday June 6? It seems like there's so much potential for wasted time and Makselife helps to eliminate that. I'm ordering myself a new set of companion notebooks to go with my EC daily duo. (I'm looking to see if I can get them put into a coil that will work with my EC A5 cover collection.) If not, it's not a huge deal. I don't typically bring my goal planner places unless I'm going to Starbucks to work, so the lack of a coil isn't as bothersome. I just like having everything in one book. (But having a new book every quarter would be nice).
I’m in Makselife this year and will continue with it next year. I think Powersheets sounds great but a problem I’ve had in the past is being so focused on a goal/project that I let other areas of my life suffer. I think the Powersheets would probably feed into that weakness while the Makselife MAKES me pay attention to those areas weekly. That’s why I went with ML this year even after I had decided on Plum Paper.
That makes so much sense! This is why I think either system can work depending on each person and I’m so glad you’ve figured out which one works for you!
Another way to make good use of MakseLife is to follow the monthly reflection prompts on a weekly basis. I record them on the "notes and reflections" page and it's been such a valuable exercise. It definitely identifies any blind spots and gives you a chance to address what didn't work for you in the prior week.
Thank you so much for this video! It was super helpful and a great idea to use both systems. I have already purchased the Powersheets for 2021 but I have decided to get the Makslife planner as well to go along with the Powersheets. I definitely prefer having some sort of weekly check in and the MakseLife can help me document what I actually accomplished. Would love to see how using both works out for you😊
This video was exactly what I needed to solidify my decision to keep using my MäksēLife Planner - I need that “action then reflection” step first. Looking forward to your flip through of the planner!
This is so helpful! Thank you. I think I’ll be doing Makse for now and do the 6 month Powersheets in the summer when I have more time and have a better sense of where the world is.
I already bought the power sheets but I’m thinking of getting the MakseLife to work together. I need the weekly and love the action of the MakseLife. As a running coach I know how to set goals, big goals, and breaking them down but I’m not really good at other aspects of my life. I know I NEED the repetitive aspect but I have a feeling this may be power sheets and weekly planning so we’ll see.
I love that you are going to try memory planning! I started planning in the Happy Planner system and I LOVED my Happy Planner, but, like you, eventually realized a daily planner is more functional for me. I ended up switching to memory planning in a Happy Planner and I am in my third year of keeping up with that and absolutely loving it.
Thank you for this informative video. I had an idea of which way I would go and you've helped me solidify my decision. Makselife speaks to my personality and thought process and I can't wait to give it a try.
Thank you for the fantastic idea to use my extra planners for checking back on my actions. I ordered power sheets for the first time because I need that deep reflection.
How youre using the makselife for reflection makes so much sense! There are some areas of life that right now I dont feel I need goals so I ignore them, but if I reflect on them first as youre doing, then I wont feel like Im missing out😁 Thanks for sharing!❤
Yes, exactly! Even if they don’t have big goals that show up in my power sheets, I’ll still spend a minute each week thinking about how things are going!
I appreciate the MakseLife because it’s *so* easy to get out of balance, especially when pursuing specific goals. I feel like the ML catergories help me be and stay well rounded :)
This video is very helpful! I think I should start with Makse because it seems much simpler but on the other hand the power sheets tending list and monthly sounds great too! Decisions Decisions!
I purchased a maskelife planner a few months back just to see how it would be, but never utilized it. I really wanted to use the cultivate what matters system this year for my financial goals , but that being said the cost is probably going to have to determine which one is better for me. Getting my financial freedom shouldn't have to break me 🤣🤣🤣
Lots of good information here. I think of the information shared here for me is do I know myself well enough to be balanced if I’m “on my own” for goal setting or do I need help establishing goals in all basic areas. For me, I need help establishing systems weekly and monitoring them daily. I think the makse life goal workbooks will be for me next year because I already have a planner that I bought early for next year before things happened that would have me leave a brand if I could afford it I would have. I also have 2 major goals for next year that the power sheets could absolutely help me with. I hope to win a planner giveaway to increase my options for next year!!😉
This video is so helpful. I’m so excited and looking forward on you using your ML as memory planning and reflecting on them. Are you planning on doing weekly checks or monthly in youtube?
I was playing with the idea of turning a weekly planner into a memory planner next year, and I love the idea of using the MäksēLife in this way because my overarching goal for next year is to do more reflection and better adjust my priorities and goals.
@@PlanwithLaken the weekly reflections are one of the things I've loved about Sarra Cannon's HB90 quarterly system, and even though that's not the right system for me at the moment, having the routine check-ins is something I know I want in whatever I try next.
Plot twist! This explains why no weekly plan with mes... because the weekly forward planning is leaving! I love the way that you're advocating what you need and stopping with the weekly planning. I can only imagine the redundancies between the google cal, the daily and then the weekly spread. Your new plan for utilizing the ML planner definitely helps you work on your current goals - reflection & writing.
I am doing both for 2021 year. Why? I used MakseLife this year and LOOOOVE it and want it for my weekly planner. But I need to dig deeper. One modification I will make is to change the eight PS categories to the MakseLife categories. I think the transition between the two will be easier if the categories are the same. I have never used PS but I hope the only duplication will be copying my monthly goals set in PS into the ML book.
I want a ML for a weekly because I love the layout (I’ve always wanted hourly format without the hours so I love the lines) I will probably use it for that mainly and since I’m doing power sheets as well I will probably use your idea about reflection on those areas of life which I feel would help me with my ps goals as well! At least it’s worth a shot lol!
Thanks for the shoutout at the end! 😁 Like you said, goal setting and planning is so personal. These are both great options for so many different reasons! I tried the Powersheets and it was too much and too little at the same time for me. I like the weekly consistency of the Makselife and its overall simplicity and repetition. I can see how both work though!
I bought PS in 2017, 2018 and 2019. I didn’t used my 2019 PS at all, so that’s why I didn’t buy the 2020 one. I LOVE the PowerSheets prep work, it fits so much my personality. But I can’t keep up with the tending list... Barely used it in the 3 years that I had PS. I don’t know why, but that system doesn’t work with me at all. I’ve discovered Makselife 1-2 months ago, and I think it is what I need. I need “accountability” every week, to keep the momentum going. So this system sounds perfect for me! And I’ve done memory planning before, in a EC horizontal Life Planner. Didn’t do it for 2020, but I want to be back at it, so I’ll use my MakseLife planner for memory planning. I would like so much to buy 2021 PS, just for the amazing prep work! And since the prep work have been changed a little for 2021, I’m dying to buy one! But I can’t buy both planners... Specially since I’m from Canada, with the exchange rate, the expensive shipping and the custom fees... I need to choose, and I’m choosing MakseLife. Guess I’ll revisite the prep work from my 2019 unused PowerSheets and use it for 2021! Best of both worlds!
Thank you for the thorough video. I have been very conflicted over which system to go with. The deep work at CYYL last year was cathartic for me and helped me refocus my priorities and goals as well as recognize the season of life I am in and some of the limitations that sets. Both are great companies run by passionate people and I think they are both awesome. Throw in that I feel like I am in the 7th circle of planner hell I really wasn’t interested in spending money on a planner that I wasn’t going to use. But I think I am going to go with both. I have found that I need the deep work but I like the idea of the weekly goals (small steps/progress) to keep me on track for the bigger picture. The tending list is good but not enough. I also like to journal and found at the end of the month I used the back of my tending list to journal about the month. I would rather do that weekly so I don’t miss or gloss over some of the more important things. Journaling has always helped me work through things and the reflection part of the weekly pages in the ML would provide that. Thank you for helping me think through all of that. I will have to resolve me other planner problem some other way! 🤣
Hahaha thank you for sharing your thoughts Kristine, I’m glad it was helpful even if now you have even more planners. So sad we won’t get to be together live this year!!
@@PlanwithLaken I know! I too had it all budgeted and was looking forward to it and hopefully meeting back up with our table mates. Maybe 2021 will be back to something close to normal.
This was so helpful Laken! The monthly check in is as good as its going to get on my end. I like to check in on my habits on a weekly basis, or things I need to get done to get to my goals. But checking in on all the goals every week would be a lot for me. If it takes 20 hours to work through the Power Sheets does that mean I get 20 hours of alone time?? Asking for a friend! 😂
This was a very helpful video of the pros and cons for both systems. I will be using the power sheets because I really love the way the tending list is set up. I use a cheap planner I got from Big Lots for $13 for my regular planning. I only use a pen and no stickers. Simple works for me. However, I memory plan after the week is over in my Recollections planner. That is when I get to play with washi and stickers. You may want to check Planning Peep on RU-vid. She memory plans and her spreads are really lovely. She also uses nice kits each week.
Well I couldn't decide so I have both on their way, due to arrive this week--- to go along with my Hobo Cousin and my Passionate Penny Pincher home planner--- I have a bit of a planner addiction, lol.
Lol, I think may be even more confused now😂 I think both of them could be helpful. But I don't know if I could use the makse life as an every day planner, bc assuming at some point we all get to leave the house again, it's not as portable. Also, as a student, for a weekly planner, I need an academic year planner. So I kind of like the idea of something quarterly/semesterly, but idk. Definitely going to have to do some reflection over the next couple days before the power sheets launch
@@PlanwithLaken I think I got it figured out! I'm gonna try both an see how it goes. I think the action➡️reflection, reflection➡️action setups balance each other out!
How are the Makselife 2021 covers? I know you can’t share your cover yet, but I’m so looking forward to cover reveal later this week. Any thoughts you can share about the new covers?
It's so hard to share my thoughts without giving anything away, I will say the cover I chose is perfect for me! Also, as important as covers are, most of my planners spend so much time open that I didn't want to put too much importance on the actual covers!
Do I have to be on facebook to be apart of the cultivate community and is the goal schooling on facebook? Which by the way ...the reflections on memory planning with the makse is such a good idea light bulbs are going off over here . Lol ❤️❤️❤️
PlanwithLaken I didn’t do January yet. I use sticky notes through out just Incase within the next two months anything changes. I think January alone would take another 6 hours. I been watching all your powersheets videos to help me along as well 😊
@@PlanwithLaken This is a great vid. I'm still thinking about it a few days later! Might ditch my academic year EC life planner for a Makse. Hard to believe it's only their 2nd year.
