Also, if you are feeling need for more sensitivity you can snap off the control rods from the upper swash connector and connect them to the elongated balls (there are four ball links on the top, two short (default) and two long). The longer ball links give you more sensitivity (less stick movement required), this is helpful if you find the built in High rates mode to be too sensitive but the Low rates mode too low.
2 years later still one of the best "mini" 3d helis in the market , have watched other alternatives but oh my, Ill definitly buy this one, great video R/C, as usual.
I ordered a solid Carbon Fiber main shaft from Banggood for a couple bucks, it's stronger and twice as light as the heavy steel stock shaft and uses a stiff green rubber ring instead of a screw and plastic collar which gives you flexibility in positioning it for swash/thrust adjustments and in a bad crash it can slip unlike the screwed on versions for added stress relief. It flies even better than before, totally worth upgrading!
Yes sir , you are right . Back in 1994 there is no such thing like cheap heli . Back there heli is expensive .. say hirobo ..or kyosho . And mostly the come with gaspower . To make it hover ..just to make it hover it pain in the ..... By the way.. thanks for reviewinh this v977 ..
I've been flying a Blade mSR with reasonable competence and was thinking of going to a collective pitch heli next, so you can bet I was sold after seeing this review. Just ordered from the Banggood US warehouse and if it works out as well as anticipated, I have my eyes on that lovely little V731/AS 350...great looking scale ship, that.. I don't think anyone under 30 will fully comprehend the import of your words about what getting into CP helicopter flying _used_ to entail; beyond the hazard of learning on larger models, the space needed to fly one, and the exorbitant cost of purchasing and repairing them, don't forget having to put up with the ear shattering noise and castor oil that got everywhere of a nitro engine. People who weren't around then can't really appreciate the strides R/C has made since I was a kid in the 70s. The ability to buy such a complete package as this with such a robust, capable and _tiny_ heli would have been laughed off as an insane pipe dream then...we do live in marvelous times.
You're right they would have burned you at the stake as a witch in the 70s if you brought this thing out and flew it around. And the cost and safety improvements in the past 10 years actually make it a realistic hobby for the average person . Each one of those crashes in my V931 video would have cost a few hundred bucks to fix with an older 450 heli, but I didn't even have to re track my blades or even reset the helicopter when I crashed it. The V977 has one week part, the main gear, it can strip if you crash and don't hit the throttle hold, I've stripped out 2, But it can slide on and off easily and only costs a few bucks. The V931 has a stronger main gear, same size and tooth configuration just a different material. The only week part, if you could call it that, in the V931 is the pitch axis screw that holds the blade grip on, I bent one going full throttle full speed upside down into my self while trying to avoid a person who stepped to close to the heli in flight. It didn't leave a scratch on me and it still flew, the blade was a little out of track though. I loved my mSR and I flew it until I killed every battery I had, you should slip right in to the V977 pretty quickly and you'll love that it doesn't dive on hard turns like the mSR would, just remember wait for a day with 5 MPH winds or less before you go inverted the first time, every time I crash mine it's because I try to go inverted on a windy day.
R/C 101 Sounds great! Mind you, I'm quite disabled by MS and my dominant left hand is shot, so It's not likely I'll pursue involved 3D flying. I'm getting used to using my good hand to run both sticks, so just precise conventional flying is enough to satisfy me. One never knows of course, maybe I _will_ develop the dexterity needed, in which case the V977 has me covered. I'm also looking with interest at WLtoys' V915 Lama for its scale looks...the red one's actually based on an actual Swiss machine, a few homemade decals and lettering and a bit of paint would produce a nice scale ship. Between the V977, V915 and the V931 I expect to have a nice rotary wing stable at very low cost!
Also the heli I mentioned doesn't compare to the heli your reviewing I was just mentioning it because it seemed like an affordable heli that flighs great and to me seems like a good deal
You should try out the syma s36 heli it works really great an it has a 2.4 transmitter and I believe it's just under 35 bucks my brother and I had a blast with it wreaked it a bunch of times and still kept on flying
Hi. Thank you for your professional video & your amazingly clear & articulated commentary. I have a WLtoys V933 6 ch. I am not sure if I have a problem with the helicopter or it is meant to be what I am going to describe. With a 4 ch. heli, when I let go of the controls (except the throttle), they return to the middle and also the swash plates return to the middle. But with V933, the sticks, return to the middle, but the swash plates do not. If I crash, I can't fly unless, I pick up the heli & try to center the swash plates by flicking the sticks. Is this normal? Thanks for you help.
And when the heli is off should the blade be even center pitch just asking cause heli won’t lift off when throttle up I twist the push rods all the way down but I wasn’t thinking should I disconnect the servo arms and add a little hight up with the push rods zero pitch
Hi taoistflyer. A correction to my problem. When the propellers are not turning, the swash plates return to the middle after I let go of the sticks & the swash plates respond very quickly & smoothly. With the mail propellers spinning, the swash plates get stuck in their position & the motor labours & slows down as if there is friction somewhere. When turned off, the main propellers spin very smoothly. When I go into zero throttle, the swash plates return to middle. Do you know what could be the problem. It has not been flown outside. There is no hair or any object interfering with the gears. the battery is also fully charged.
They do have a harder time handling winds compared to quad rotors or larger helis. A quick burst of 11 mph wind can shove you down a few feet or back really quickly depending on which way the rotor disk is leaning. They are a lot of fun though.
taoistflyer Yeah, it's a real problem.. Especially when trying to fly during winter where the weather is awful haha. I love my little Nano CP (skyartec) chopper though. Great stuff! Wish I saw this first though cuz it's cheaper xD
taoistflyer That's strange, it was the exact opposite here. Very nice weather, wasn't too cold, but really high wind. And as you know, any chopper without a direct driven tail cannot handle high wind :(

I'm about to get my HCP80 in the air soon once I have enough money to get that bloody X6-S. Oops. Another comment. Now, when I turn on the throttle, the one of the servos starts to move he swash plate with out me touching the stick. The trims are all in the middle. Do you think that I have a faulty motherboard or a faulty transmitter?
Maybe a mechanical problem or a faulty main electronics board, probably not a problem with the transmitter. it could be something as simple as a missing plastic washer that fell off. If the swash plate moves fine when the blades aren't spinning but it sticks when they are spinning it could be a problem in the rotor head assembly including the swash plate, the push rods and the channels they slide in, or even the blade grips. Try it at a really low speed and see if you have the same problem. Maybe when it is spinning fast and generating force on part of the mechanism the servos can't push hard enough to move it back. It's very hard to say but definitely not normal behavior, don't be afraid to take apart the rotor head, everything in the rotor head and swash plate assembly needs to move and function harmoniously, a bent shaft or bad bearing in the blade grips can throw the whole thing off. Keep working on it and you'll figure it out Keep us updated. R/C101
Hi there, I've had my V977 for about 3 months now, it is very nice and I play around inverted etc. However you mention it can do tic tocs straight out of the box, my heli doesn't seem to have nearly enough head speed to be able to pull that off, of maybe my servos don't have enough throw for the kind of pitch and thrust necessary. I would like it to be more responsive to positive or negative pitch, any suggestions here?
I haven't tried a camera yet but I doubt that it would lift a möbius camera and fly very well, this thing is more about the sheer joy of flying. It does get a lot of lift at full throttle so it can carry a little bit of weight but not much.
You mention that it's a good idea to use a simulator to learn the 3D flight handling, does the transmitter support a simulator cable? I use ClearView flight simulator and I have a basic controller for that, but it's always better and easier to learn on the sticks you're going to use when you go to the field.
Unfortunately the transmitter doesn't have a simulator port so you'd be stuck using the simulator TX that you already have. Just out of curiosity have you seen the wl toys V931 If you are considering getting a CP heli I would take the V931 over the V977. It looks better, has more power, and is more durable, the V977 is a little more stable in the sense that it doesn't generate as much thrust because it only has 2 rotors but when it comes to overall flight and 3D the V931 is much better and mine came with 2 batteries. Excellent review. Pretty much does what the Blade SR or whatever its called does, and cheaper. I was told I needed a helicopter this size to learn the Align 450. I doubt thats totally true but being I have only flowned fixed pitch 913 WL toys sky bus( my nick name) I want to get one of these to get the feel for hsndling a collective pitch heli. My biggest complaint is size. I need to be able to SEE what I am flying. Those 250 scale heli are small. Smaller is NOT better in my world. None the less, I need something affordable less a blade, the 977 fits that bill.
RC Hobbyist Extreme this flight was actually the first time I had a chance to hover a helicopter inverted. I spent like 10 years doing it on the simulator and really wanted to try it. It was fun. You're absolutely right that a larger helicopter makes it easier to see and there's a lot more power and stability. but for those of us that want that experience and don't have $1,200 to spend this really is a good option. It will make you want a larger helicopter though so that you can do tick tocks and khaos flips.
RC Hobbyist Extreme if you do get one and you try it just make sure there is zero wind because the very first time I tried it well let's just say the wind isn't your friend when your helicopter is as light as a mouse.

First Flip the switch to go from low idle to high idle, next flip the switch to go from low servo throws to high servo throws, and last click the button to switch from 6G mode to 3D mode and you are ready to fly 3D. The display should show a little helicopter upside down, and display 3D mode and high instead of low
I currently have the small V911 and larger V913 brushless WL Toys helis along with their transmitters and battery chargers..... can someone tell me positively if any of these are compatible and usable , if I purchase the V977 BNF model.....thanks
hello. I have a simulator on my pc, but can I use/connect this transmitter to my pc with a cable? I dont see any ports on the transmitter itself in order to be able to hook up a cable and connect transmitter to pc
I think you can get a specific bundle which comes with a custom simulator radio though I think it's a decent bit pricier but regularly this one can't be used for a simulator no.
The WL toys V931 is better then both of them and worth the extra few bucks. That being said, between the wl toys v977 and the v988 the v977 is better in my opinion because it comes with a stock brush-less motor and a few other minor tweaks.

Excellent review. Got one but after 3 or 4 flights its stability has declined. Keeps going to left. How do u adjust its servo arms and balance the pitch etc.
I can tell you how to make it more sensitive but not less, you can try to keep it in low throws and that might help but I also felt that it was a little sensitive in 3D mode. The v931 is a much better 3D aircraft.
I'd advise the v977 over v931 if you're new to CP helicopters. The scale canopy on the v931 breaks easily and the smaller battery gives much shorter flights.

Every thing I've received from WL toys has been very good about TX compatibility, that being said I'm not sure if the power star X1 can be bound with other transmitters, it needs to be able to switch its gyro between 6 axis and 3 axis, that may be something that can be assigned to a channel on your transmitter but I'm not 100% sure. I couldn't find the manual online, and mine is in storage more then a hundred miles away.
The v977 will not bind with your FlySky transmitter. The v977 uses a transmitter protocol developed by WLtoys themselves. I believe the FlySky transmitter is compatible with the v911, 912, 913 helis and v929, 939, 949, and 959 quadcopters from WLtoys
