Yes, I regret not doing enough detailed description in first video. Take head off. You can tell a whole lot from what you find. Don’t be afraid! It’s broke anyhow so what are you going do wrong?? You can spin the crank ok so valves are stuck open. Also take off side valve covers and manifold assembly. Squirt liberal amounts of your favorite penetrating oil under the valves, inside the ports where you see the valve stems and inside the valve cover on the springs. Wait several days. As you crank the engine use a plastic or rubber hammer to knock the valves closed. Also look at the surface where the valve meets the block, the seats are probably in bad shape. In a pinch you can use sandpaper on the seats to help sealing. I got mine running well enough to get it on and off a trailer and into my garage. But yea, valve guides and seats ultimately needed to be done. I still have the valve grinder I bought just for this job. I might sell it to you😉

Also, I never used a real compression tester, I just used my thumb over the spark plug hole😉

@@JDawghasaTruck Okay thank you so much. Yes I have seen a video of mine being turned over without the head on and it looks like number 6 is stuck. I like the rubber mallet idea. What penetrating oil do you recommend I don't have any? I am honestly just trying to see if I can get it barely running on my own first. For the seats I would probably have a machine shop do it. I found one who is relatively cheap in San Diego who have done power wagon flatheads before.

@@DIYSCOTT I think I used PB Blaster but you can mix your own, transmission fluid, brake fluid, Marvel Mystery Oil. Not sure what’s available in California. Be patient and let it soak at least a few days. Yea if you can find a reasonable machine shop who has done it before!

I tried darn near everything! Used as much heat as I dared, don’t have acetylene tank. This is the only block I got!

I will I want to find one of those to restore myself.

I like original in general. Measuring the bores show that this is very low mileage. No discernible bottom end noise when I had it running. The only bad part is the valves due to dampness, poor storage in the Ohio river valley.

Had to ask, all you see anymore is newer engines going into the old trucks. I have a 218 in a 52 B3B that just purrs, the old flathead is a very reliable engine.
