In this video, you will learn about the PowerApps Azure Blob Storage connector. We will walk through how to setup an Azure Blob Storage account, how to use Azure Storage Explorer, and finally how to use Azure Blob Storage with PowerApps. If you need to work with files with your PowerApps you need this solution.

Hi Shane, I used your technique here for that last 5 weeks with the blobs whereby I could save them and then retrieve them from two separate buttons in the app. AND IT WORKED FANTASTICALLY!!! But last, week, for no apparent reason, I could not retrieve the files anymore using that File SAS technique (around 25:58) and code you demonstrated in this video (and I had not changed anything.) I realized at 25:58, that in the video, you clicked on the Generate container-level shared access signature URI. Now it is no longer there in Storage Explorer! and I think the functionality is no longer there either (at least from my investigation) and therefore the SAS key no longer works for all my files, but only the one I set it up with. I need it to retrieve any file I have stored. How I got it to work again was to right click on the container name itself, then select "Get Share Access Signature" at the container level (not the file level.) Once I used that container SAS key in my code, instead of the SAS at the file level, it solved my problem. I wanted to share with you and people watching this. I am sure it was working the way you described up to a week ago, maybe Azure changed something (of course it could also be something in my system or myself.) Please let me know, if you see the same. Thanks for all the great material.

Thanks for the video! Was extremely excited because we are totally looking for a solution for a problem we are facing right now with file sizes... I was excited till I read that you need a premium license to use this connector. Such a shame. For big companies those license costs might be peanuts, but for smaller sized companies (50-200 employees) where everyone should be able to use the PowerApp once in a while and where there is a tighter budget those extra costs on top of the normal O365 license is too much. Microsoft is really missing out because I've had to switch away from PowerApps for multiple companies now because of those license costs.
@ShanesCows
@ShanesCows 3 года назад
It is a bummer. Did you consider storing the files in SharePoint document libraries so you could do it for free?
@sn3aky-t217

@@ShanesCows I was looking into that, but it seems that you have to use the attachment control for that, am i right? Because in my understanding the attachment control can only handle files up to 50mb in size. But we are looking for a way to upload Autocad drawings which can be a few GB's in size. Do you have any thought on how I could handle that? quick explanation of what we are trying to build: We want a portal where people can upload their files (Office files, Autocad drawings, Pictures, Movies etc.. ). Those files are "products" for customers, so they need to go to an approval proces. So my initial idea was to create a list item for each "product" and attach the file to that list item as attachment. But Sharepoint has a 250mb list item attachment file size restriction. So now I'm trying to come up with a solution where I can create a list item and link it to that file somehow

Hi Shane, Thank you for yet another great tutorial. Is there an API which allows PowerApps to manage the blobstore folder structure and file access? ie. AzureBlobStorage.Root("Id").CreateFolder("/NewFolder") and something similar for the access level, as I believe setting up the access through the manager with the time restricted token is going to limit user acceptance.

Hi Shane, great video tutorial. Thanks a lot for this. Is there an option to display text data of a blob on power apps? Or is downloading the file the only option to view it? I've tried PDF viewer and that works well, but if I want to display a text file or a JSON file, how should I go about doing that? Also I don't see an option for "Get Shared Access Signature" in my Storage Explore, any idea why that might be happening? Thanks

Hi, is it possible to list files from a sub folder using ListFolderV2? My challenge is a blob container called “powerapp”, a folder for each case and a sub folder called “images”. So “powerapp/caseX/images”, “powerapp/caseY/images” etc. Is it possible to add the files in folder “images” to a collection so they can be shown in a gallery? The caseNo can be achieved from the actual record. I have tried almost everything 😏

Great tutorial! My only complaint is with the ridiculous pricing of using the Premium blob connector. $10/user/app/month is a pretty hefty fee to try and justify, on top of the (minimal) blob storage fees. Unfortunately, we may have to go a different route entirely, even though I really like what you helped me build. I was even able to figure out how to automate the name to add a timestamp. Is there any possibility of adding image properties like geotagging? We'd like to use this for getting photos of assets, and they may want extra details.

Hi Shane, Super Top! We are using Azure SQL from PowerApps for thousands of asset data. With images my problem is that full res images are slow for showing in catalog view. So I was thinking of using C to make and store a thumbnail and a 600px image parallel in SQL for fast response use. Now seen this Blob storage my question to you is: does the collection download the image just as big as needed or does it download the full res and only show a thumbnail in the collection. If the latest is true then we need a fast respons solution. Note we need the full res image sometimes, but not for a regular quick view. How can we improve the speed in this case? …. this will be the cherry on the cake, Shane. ;-) Thanks, Gr. Lex

It downloads the entire image, but you can use the auto thumbnail script in Azure and then only bring back the thumbnail to the user - powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/auto-generate-thumbnails-using-an-azure-function-and-azure-blob-storage/

Thanks Evan! Maybe I need to get you on a video for a follow up to this one. :)

Thank you very much, Evan, it looks like this exactly solves the performance issue in showing images in PowerApps selection catalogues with many images. Also a second mini image for the first bigger quick view screen. So Evan, Super Top!! I will test this in our factory asset app. Gr. Lex

Good idea Shane to give this a follow up video, to show the use of many images from Azure Blob + extra data (information) from Azure SQL. Gallery (+filter) > group images > quick view (medium size) > detail view (full res) . See if you can combine sets of images of an asset (key) in a image asset view and set one as the master for the main collection thumbnail. And take the images with the smartphone camera , so in higher res. Wow, this is business practice. Thank you for being enthusiastic and for using Azure Blob+SQL. Keep me posted. Gr. Lex
