I have had my powerblocks since 2002. I use them all of the time and they've never let me down. Not one single piece has ever broken. Amazing dumbbells.
Hammer Strength sells their “version” of the powerblock that goes from 5-100lbs for $1000. In my opinion the better buy. That being said, I’ve owned many myself and I just couldn’t get around the block shape 🤷🏻♂️ I’ve had the Nuobells for almost 2 years now and the only real con is that they stop at 80lbs, wish they made them heavier.
Another great video man it was great and your opinion was informative and made some good points overall it was great man and I might consider buying some💯💯👍😊
@@LukesGarageGym I bet for sure it will be a worthy investment once I get them and use them moving forward. If you say they are always helpful I’ll take your word for it dude 💯👍👊
I have very limited experience with powerblocks, but I have always heard great things about them. Like you said, that 90 pound weight cap is a little low. The ease of adjustment is huge though. Great review good sir!
I got these around the same time as u for the same obvious reasons. The problems u have with the grip can be fixed by holding the dumbbells in different directions. U CAN rotate the dumbbell to adjust your grip for different exercises. Also a tip, instead of doing every exercise holding it from the top, try inserting your hands thru the side of the dumbbell with the clip facing up.
I love my powerblocks too! I have the Sport EXPs. I've used your band hack and it does work well (it is risky though). I'm looking to get a pair of IMs to use in addition to my PBs, for heavier work. Solid review, Luke!
Glad to see another video & welcome back again! The guns 💪are showing again.... Great video as well. Btw, I like your logo, along with your name in it. Curious question. Do you have a copyright or a trademark over the brand name? That thought played in my head prior to watching your video. I assume you do since you're selling merchandises, but I figure I ask because I saw another "Luke" added to the word garage when I was searching for you on RU-vid.
My man thank you!! And I haven’t. Something I’ll have to look into, so a lot of people can steal it. Also I’m not selling any yet. I just have the shirts for myself and my videos!
Right??? Just overall a solid piece. I wish they had the new 100 pound set when I bought mine in 2020. I miss not being able to go up to 100s. Just been doing a lot of hacks etc instead of buying 100 pound dumbbells
Power blocks are great but they're being passed by the Nuobells that recently came out. Just wish the power blocks would work to make more improvements than kinda sitback and rely on their existing products. just my thoughts.
@@vgman94 most people complain about the shape. Personally, I didn't like the hassle of taking out the adder weights to get the 5/7.5 increments. I also think with recent price increases powerblocks are more expensive than the main competitors
They are a cool product. Never trained with them, but tried them a few times when they first came out. People often mention that they feel weird, but anytime you change gym memberships, lots of stuff feels weird for about a week.
I have the powerblock elite set. With the 90lb expansions, which I never need to go that high. I also upgraded those with the baresteel knurled handles. I also have the baresteel stubby, and micro loading magnets I can add for weight as well. Also on black friday I got a set of the powerblock u24s. I got em thinking I could get my daughter in there because of the low 3lb starting weight. Sure it only goes to 24lbs but I like the 3lb increases which allows for different weight settings than the traditional pbs. Like I have been doing 9lb lateral raises which I cant do on the others. And I also have the amazing old school pb kettleblock that thing is amazing, and I keep trying to find another one. Not a fan of the new style.
Good review, but this is from a fan of powerblocks. Just one thing: I do my goblet squats by holding the block horizontal at my chest holding it by the two bottom bars instead of the center. No issues with the greater weight. I utilize the same underneath grip for overhead triceps. Powerblocks are the beast!
Is this stand is stable without dumbbells on it? Mine looks like one leg is shorter than the other and it wobbles until you don't put dumbbells on it. What is your experience?
I’m very surprise so many RU-vidrs don’t ever talk about two fairly big/noticeable issues with the blocks. (1) the offset/ "off centered" feel of the powerblocks because of those adder weight inserts. Those two silver adder weights don’t insert directly in the middle. It’s definitely a noticeable feel even after using them for months. To get around this, I simply purchased Platemate add-ons, and simply not use those inserts. (2) 2.5 increment is not entirely correct. They come in 5, 7.5, 10, 15, 17.5, 20, 25, 27.5, 30, 35, 37.5, 40, 45, 47.5, 50 lbs. So it’s actually missing 12.5, 22.5, 32.5, 42.5, 52.5, 62.5, 72.5, 82.5.
@@LukesGarageGym … Unfortunately, that I do not know. Some people say they do. But my above comment applies to all powerblocks. I have the sports exp version, bought during Covid through powerblock’s website. I would just stick with the microgainz honestly.
@@LukesGarageGym … I just saw them too. But even if they were available when I ordered my Sports EXP, I think I would have stuck with the all metal Sports version over the urethane version. If you run a google search on ‘powerblock lawsuit,’ it comes up with the urethane model where there is a defect in design. There are a few RU-vid video showing the defect with the urethane model where the bars detaches from the urethane weight plates. One case was enough for me to bypass any urethane sets unfortunately. The new urethane pro 100 looks nice though with those large ‘70", ‘100’ numbering on those weight plates. $1000 plus for the entire set.
You literally admitted to being biased.. and no, Nuobell is way better. I absolutely LOVE Powerblock and I own both Nuobells and Powerblocks (Sport EXP) and if I could only choose one, I'd choose my Powerblocks.. simply for the fact that I trust the durability of it more, BUT.. Nuobells are definitely better for the feel, way of adjusting them etc. and havn't failed me after 1-2 years of usage.
I have the "regular" PowerBlock EXP Dumbbells 5-50 Stage 1 Set and yea I agree that they are awesome - I just don't bang them together like I used to do in the before the global pandemic GYM days - with real gym dumbbells. With the ones I have, once you get the sweat going in a chest workout, I have noticed that after a couple of sets, the sweat from the hands drip down from the handle to the bottom inside part and a small rust spot appeared. (I Freaked when I discovered this small rust spot) and then I looked around some more and there is also a small rust spot on the outside bottom part where that long flat black steel connects the 2 dumbbell parts together. UUUhh! I have some of that blue painters masking tape and I tried to put it where sweat might end up and after every workout I now have to wipe down every nook and cranny of these PowerBlocks. Since we are all anal home gym owners, lol
I can see the appeal of Powerblocks, but I'm more of a traditional dumbell guy! Also if I weren't adding weight to the bar it would just feel unnatural to me.
Hayes these dumbells cause the hooks on the side ket catching up my pocket and ripping them when i do curls. Had to sell it them. Do not recommend the pros.
@@LukesGarageGym nothing beats my American Barbell Series IVs but most people don’t have the budget or space for those. IMs are awesome, I’d say having PBs for quick changing and IMs for going heavy is the best of both worlds.
@@LukesGarageGym yeah man, for about $1100, with that heavy handle kit and the expansion, they go up to 135lbs. I’d say instead of buying the fixed dumbbells, this is well worth the savings in my opinion. Something to consider down the road when you outgrow the PBs. Plus tax season is coming 😂
