Powered Parachute ultralight aircraft encountered severe wind sheer at low level causing the parachute to stall resulting in a crash. Pilot and aircraft survived with minimal damage and no injuries. I just glad the guy is ok. It doesn't matter what you fly. What matters is you are flying. Nothing is better than that feeling. Fly safe. Be smart.

Plenty of turn authority. I do have and have used "2:1" pulley system. I like and have greater control using a combination of feet and hand control. The cause of the crash was a severe and sudden twister over the snow and hills. I immediately entered the "suck" and needed to turn and descent out of the pull. I have in excess of 3,000 flight hours in USAF F-4 Phantoms, F-111, F-5 and numerous other military fighter aircraft as well as extensive flight time in hang gliders as well as sky diving.

@b1ee2 That's a matter of opinion. The susceptibility of a fixed wing ultralight to stall, in general, is much higher statistically than a powered parachute. Just because there was one instance where a PPC stalled doesn't make it worse than fixed wings.

@planeguy3223 . my biggest issue is the sail collapsing on the Para motor. The fixed wing ultra light wings will not collapse unless there is catastrophic structural damage. you probably know more about the subject than I do.

@b1ee2 In the rare event that the parachute collapses, most of the time (like 99%) the forced air coming in from other non-collapsed cells will reinflate it. For a parachute to completely collapse, you would have to have some extreme weather phenomenon where wind is suddenly coming at the chute from all directions expect into the cells, but such a violent event would bring down fixed wings as well. This guy here shouldn't have been flying here, or at least on a less windy day.

As a fixed wing pilot, this looks like real low flying to me. Is it pretty routine to fly at that altitude? To my inexperienced eye, it looks like about 1000ft AGL or less.

Powered parachutes do not stall. Rather impossible actually. :)

I live in northern Utah. KOGD area, do you know anyone that would indulge my curiosity and let me go up with them. I would just hate to spend a bunch of money on one and then hate it ya know?
