Actually Everything i wanted is made bc of her fear. Happier than ever is made like when the water came it was you know so like fast and she didn't know like and she explained that it's because you never know when you are getting abused i don't know if u understand but hope you do
@@Mexxx65 it's not pro, she's just sharing her emotions and experiences thru her music...cuz u know, that's how art works. It's the artist's goal to elicit emotion from their audience.
i see it like this- she starts off feeling sad, grieving this relationship, wishing she didn’t feel the way she did. and then as she’s talking through everything that happened, she sees the situation in a new light and that sadness turns to anger. she opens the door to the anger once she finally recognizes it, everything that built up comes flooding out, and once she works through that anger, she starts to feel a million times better, hence the dancing in the rain towards the end
You should see her SNL performance of this song. It's my favorite version, vocally. It would have been even better if she hadn't had to write a clean version for live tv, but she did, and she did it well, not just skipping over the swears.
jajaja Ahora somos 3... Puedo decir que con mis 40 años no siento verguenza alguna de que me guste su música... porque? porque es revolucionaria artísticamente en todo aspecto... en estos tiempos de mujeres desnudistas sin talento y reggetoneros mediocres...
It begins in a softly lit room , very “ old Hollywood “ the light from outside is filtered in the windows. But Billie is wearing a black shirt and although the song sounds like a torch song ( and I get Patsy Cline vibes) the lyrics are not in sync with her surroundings. I think that the flickering lights do represent gas lighting and the water is “ reality “ that is seeping in. Then she opened the door and reality floods in. And as she breaks the surface she realizes “ I DON’T RELATE TO YOU”. A watershed moment. And now the lyrics and her surroundings are in sync. And she’s speaking her truth. It’s a catharsis and she’s free.
There are the tears too. What you said about reality, maybe while she's denying the reality she lets it scapes little by little, with the lights after too, and then she can't hide it anymore... what the man did hurts even if they're not near. There's no happiness anymore, just angry. She starts to drowning
"The brilliance of anger though... is the release." That's exactly what this song is, and the function it has on the album as a whole - I feel like the entire thing was building up to this moment of anger... And release. The moment I first heard it I was so euphoric towards the end that I felt like texting everyone I know about it so they could experience it too - pure catharsis.
honestly I feel like I've promoted this song more than Billie herself😂 I wish I could hear it for the first time again... great shock value as well.. was NOT expecting THAT MUCH.. it was greattt
8:04 ''the brilliance of anger though.. is the release because you have to get through it to get to the other side'' that was so well said! one of the best reactions to this song, great words. ps: this is her best song so far.
Great reaction guys. I love how you immediately picked up on the irony of the lyrics from the start, kudos. Billie and her brother (and producer), Finneas, are a killer song-writing team, basically anything in her catalog is, at minimum, an interesting listen, for a chill vibe I like "Billie Bossa Nova, and Lost Cause" from the new album. For something with a bit more punch I'd suggest "you should see me in a crown" from her first album and "NDA" from the new album.
If you like to know more about her art, just react/listen the whole album "happier than ever".She is an album artist. You will find the uniqueness and subtlety and obviously talent and creativity throughout the whole album. Also don't forget to pay attention to the lyrics, lyrics are the heart of her songs.
Yes!! I second this 100%!! To get the full "Billie Effect" you HAVE to listen to EP, Album 1 and Album 2 all the way through. Her progression has been absolutely beautiful to watch. Between the lyrics and production (FINNEAS) and the vibe and her ability to be so genuine.... all put together makes absolute perfection.
Oh and check out her collaboration with Khalid after the EP but before Album 1. There are a couple of single that go at the end of Album 1. I'll come back and watch every second of it.
I love that you called it her art because that is exactly what it is...art. Every song, video, lyric. So much thought and care put into it all. She truly is the definition of an artist. I am GenX and have so much appreciate for both of them and let's not forget their parents for supporting them every step of the way and allowing them to be who they are and grow. :)
@@KristinKanan If every parent were like that, the world would be a perfectly safe and interesting place. It is even possible that people would ultimately be satisfied with what they earned fairly. Maybe it would be even possible to get that healthy justice and the truthful lust for life. You know, some peaceful balance between everything that exists. (the dreaming option is still not prohibited)
The lines "You call me again Drunk in your Benz Drivin home under the influence You scared me to death But I'm waiting my breath Cause you only listen to your f***** friends" hits harder when you've watched her documentary and see that she gets upset and scared because he keeps driving home drunk and won't listen to her and stop.
There’s a video where she explains the meaning. She’s on the phone with a person she she’s wanted to say these things to for a long time. Realizing she’s experienced a form of abuse. The little droplets of rain, represent that realization. Then, as she notices the lights. It hit her like a wave, the abuse she’s been experiencing. Then, she lets off and tells them how she feels.
I have a different interpretation. The 40's vibe is her being in love in way that is of the fairy tale variety. When she opens the door she has to swim up to her reality that she guy really was a jerk. And it's very autobiographical. She was dating this artist named Q and he asked for ticket to when she was headling Cochella. She said only if he'd spend time with her. In the documentary it show her asking where he is and he never showed. This is where the line "made all my moments your own" because on what should have been a huge thing for her, playing Cochella, and she was being so hurt by him.
So the song is about an abusive relationship. The initial dripping of the water into the house signifies the abuse starting slowly and creeping in (as it typically would in a toxic relationship) and then her opening the door to it all shows it consuming her and she's fighting to get out of that abusive relationship (swimming through it frantically and ending up on the roof)
@@niecygirl2478 And I Went Too Far! Live from that absolutely beautiful theater, with a whole orchestra!!! I was mesmerized, absolutely fascinated by everything I hear and see - her as a forest fairy 🧚♂️ with light, airy wings... Wow
I remember being a drunk teenager at a party, and a woman came up to me and my boyfriend and said "you know he's the one if he makes you laugh more than cry" But lately all I do is cry
Great reaction, thank you! Billie is still only 19, but was brought up on Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, The Beatles, Green day, drake, Tyler the creator, My chemical romance, Marina & the diamonds, jazz, R&B, Hip hop, dean Martin ... you can literally hear ALL of these influences on her new album. The girl is obsessed with music, past and present ... she greatly appreciates those who have gone before her, yet she is constantly changing the game herself.
The whole song is a sonic parallel to the emotional journey: you start out quietly saying, "I'm not happy with you, but I'm not sure why... I hope you still think about me, though." But as the relationship gets more and more toxic, that turns into resentment and anger; which is the point where the music shifts from calm ukulele to harder rock instrumentation, and the lyrics become biting. But even more than that, the more you realize why everything is toxic, the angrier you get, and the music continues to mirror that as the instruments get more and more distorted right up to the end, and the harmonies get louder and bigger and more chaotic, and the main vocals turn into basically just screaming, "LEAVE ME ALONE!"
I saw this and DROPPED EVERYTHING! I Love Billie, and your reaction was great... per usual. 🙂 Also, I can't believe you guys don't have more subscribers!

The way I interpreted the video it's very similar to a line from Taylor Swift's song Clean "When I was drowning that's when I could finally breathe" like during the first part where she was almost holding her breath and trying to hold all of her emotions in, clearly portrayed by her delivery. Then she opened the door allowing her to drown herself in anger and succumb to the pain, that's when she felt truly free.
I really like seeing the perspective of another generation about this content. Billie Eilish has plenty of fantastic videos for you guys to enjoy . Top 3 Imo for you react to : when the party's over, everything I wanted, my future,
Such a powerful song in times when we arent used to music like this anymore. Shes gonna change the game. Please react to Doja Cats BMA medley performance great videos guys
I feel like when she’s in the house it represents the abusive relationship she was in but her still convincing herself that she’s happy and that relationship is her home, opening the door represents the realization of how abusive he is and he’s drowning her, she can’t breathe in that relationship anymore and she makes it out at the top of the house, shows victory and finally moving on.
The representation of the water and te phone is of an abusive relationship. She’s on the whole with an ex and telling him how much he ruined her life. The water droplets coming from the ceiling and the floor represent her not noticing the abuse she is getting. Then when the lights start to flicker she’s starting to notice a bit of the abuse, then when she opens the door she is drowning in the abuse. You never know how bad the abuse is until your drowning.
Billie stated that the whole video is a metaphor for the end of a toxic relationship. Their are obvious signs to abuse (the water drops) but it's not until the relationship is over (when Billie hangs up the phone) is when you realize all the toxic things that come pouring in ( like the flood) she then escapes the flood to the rooftops to come out a better person.

In the house she was playing the role of dutiful little woman. She could hear her anger knocking as she'd had to hold it back in another shitty phone call. When she opened the door to it even slightly she opened the floodgate and nearly drowned, but swam through it and shouted her reality from the rooftop as the old self/home was cleansed and swept away.
My reading on this song is very literal haha. I think even when you know it was a horrible / unhealthy relationship, it’s hard cutting someone out of your life. In the beginning, her life is more peaceful, but she still misses/wonders about him occasionally. And then he calls and scares the crap out of her, acting like an asshole, and all that drama/anger rushes right back in. He interrupted her peace and reminded her exactly why it’s good she stays away
keep up the vids fellas, interesting as always! Glad you powered thru covid, must be a great feeling to be past it. it makes me really happy that a song that sounds this dynamic and original was also super successful, its rare that pop music is this good
If you want to react to something contrasting from her, try the official music video for "when the party's over" or "I love you" at the Greek Theater. Both can show her power in other ways. You won't be disappointed with how she evokes older genres in new interpretations.
At heart, Billie reminds me of contemporary version of the old lounge singers...but I love how she dabbles in pretty much every music genre and makes it her own.
She told him how she felt in the first phone call, he calls back and she hammers it to him so he finally gets the message. The progression from gentle acoustic to total distortion at the end of this song is awesome. Finneas and Billie did a great job telling a story with the lyrics and music in this. The pair just get better and better every year.
She had that withheld sadness about him and was trying to put it into words and let it out, saying what she needs to say, even without knowing how. As it continued, it's like she just got frustrated, broke and the floodgates opened and the anger was released.
Was nice to see the reaction to the power of it and getting it's not just a song but an experience. There is so much going on in that song with the lightly layered vocals at first, that brilliant twang of the guitar when it shifts from first part to "I don't relate to you". That first electric guitar twang sounds like " I don't relate to you". Her screams of letting it out in the end after she's done singing, like mixing laughter and released with the rage. It's really a masterpiece
Great reaction! Liked how you paid attention to and broke down the lyrics. Has anyone said to react to K/DA before? If not, check out their songs Pop Stars or More. They'll blow you away on a few levels.
Great reaction! Love to see the commentary, you guys should react to her whole album ‘happier than ever’ as a whole, the lyrics throughout it is impeccable and I feel like you’d get to hear a lot of her genius in it. I also recommend listening to her first album ‘when we all fall asleep where to we go’ both albums are great lyrically and just all around a good listen
Great reaction guys!!!! You never seem to disappoint, you’re so quick to understand the meaning behind the lyrics. I’m 44 and Billie & Finneas, are insanely gifted, my favorite artists. The sad part about the ex she is referring to, is that he was 22 years old and she was just 16 when they started dating!!! For someone that much older to take advantage of “a kid” as she states in the song…is simply disgusting and pathetic. I’m so glad she ended it with him and is finally happy now.
Why have I only just discovered 2 old dudes ? 😂 I watched her perform this in Manchester last Tuesday ( last song of her set) and it literally took the roof off . Some poor moms covering their kids ears 😂her most sweary song 😂x
I’ve watched peoples reactions for weeks of this song, Billie Eilish is one of my favourite artists. This song was mind blowing and it’s exactly what I want to say to my ex wife. If only I could send it to her. So happy you loved it too!!
It resembles death. I’m pleased to have everyone that I worked with be able to help me out with this stuff of getting my messages of peace and understanding for people who have disabilities. I’m glad that I could help raise a fair amount of money for different charities that we could give people something to help them with whatever they’re going through!
I would actually love to see you react to "Everything I Wanted". I feel like it gives you a good sense of her state of mind at the time. It's definitely deep though. I feel like it's a very vulnerable song.
Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee react to Physical by Dua Lipa, it's very disco/80s influenced and the music video is insanely good too. One of the best pop songs of all time in my opinion & I think u guys are gonna love it too.
Around 5m:3s mark, the tear drops fall. Floorshadowing! I remember from English class that water can represent cleansing (& fire - both from A Tale of Two Cities). Feels right here.
You guys should react to a heavy metal band called Ice nine kills! If you guys like that stuff. They make songs based on Horror Movies. And another band called Pvris (pronounced paris) the white noise album is the best!
The style reminded me of a Patsy Cline vibe...at first lol Like a little Sweet Dreams (of you). Love that song. And this one. And I just found this video in my recommended and I now love you two old dudes!
I just found y'all 😌... Glad I did! Billie is incredible! Love her like a little sister 🌹💜 You have a New Sub guys!👏💯 Ps if you want to know more about that relationship, you should watch the documentary she did... BTW his name is Brandon "Q" Adams I believe..a real douchebag 🤙✌️
My take on the song and the music video is that in the first part (with the 50s-60s vibes), she's in the process of moving on and healing. Her life is starting to get brighter (the color scheme was bright), but she's still in denial, pretending to be happier than ever but still wonders if he avoids her house, which means she’s curious if he still cares. Then in the second part (when she opens the door and starts drowning), she begins to relive the dark times with her ex and how awful he was. But in the video, even though she almost drowns, she manages to swim back up and survive-basically showing that she was hurt, but she made it through
