I can’t believe that sheriff wouldn’t let that poor couple get into his car . So flipping rude and disrespectful. Shame on him . Thank you fire fighters for helping them out GODBLESS you al, .
What makes it better is that is the lovely chief Mike Opalek of Dawson Springs PD. Really shows the amount of compassion they have for their people. One of the many many reasons I moved to STL after being seriously injured and nearly dying in 2021 and everyone letting me lay there for 5 hours bleeding and fading in and out of consciousness because nobody "wanted to get blood in their car" 🙄 If it weren't for the nurses who showed up to the school and my dads friend Tommy for driving me there from the PD, I wouldn't have made it that night.
Yea, may God surely bless him and his loved ones. At least he had insurance, even though it is a painful process. It was smart of him to leave that area, especially at his age, I would too...can not imagine facing such heartbreak twice in three years. God have mercy.
Emergency services that leave survivors in the rain, wind and cold? they are already in shock and hypothermia is a real thing.. that's despicable... did they forget their job is to help survivors FIRST, everything else comes after.
A tornado just went through and destroyed their town and you call them despicable for saying he was sorry he can’t because he will probably get called out to another emergency…. Keyboard warrior
That is definitely not their job during a mass casualty incident like this. These two would be one of the lowest priorities. They are not in shock-this term is so misunderstood and misused. They also have a storm shelter in which they can seek shelter from the elements. Most people had no electricity after the storm for days, so a roof over your head is about as good as anyone had. That doesn’t warrant rescue
@@karstelobster8203 if rescuing people isn't their job than what is it? To sit there being fat and looking at all the misery? Did you even read your comment before you typed it? Yeah there's emergencies all over the place; there are rescues needing to be done everywhere. So you do them. Sure someone will have it worse, but until that person has a call put out for them; what good is it in rejecting people who need help right in front of you?
@@muscleman125 Do you have the reading comprehension of a potato? Original: “Did they forget that their job is to help survivors first, everything else comes after”. My reply: “that is definitely not their job during a mass casualty incident like this”. They need to organize this response and direct resources to the critically injured or trapped people first. Non-injured, ambulatory people are not the priority
It was shocking but I have seen it before, I am just glad they were able to get out of the rain in the fire truck. It shouldn’t be a big ask, but apparently it is 🤷♂️
I’m sure there are many people in that town that need help. I’m sure there are several injuries! Please don’t judge law enforcement so harshly until you know the whole story!💕 That reporter should not have ask that officer when so much was going on!!
One could ALSO say that this reporter could have put his camera down and put this couple he was SO concerned about in HIS OWN car, and driven them somewhere "safe". They were UNinjured and were not a priority to emergency services. Police and Fire have an unbelieveable amount of things to take care of moments after a tornado.... things like finding out what roads are accessable, where the greatest damage is and possible injured that need to be evacuated there, live power lines down, people entrapped in basements or cars, gas leaks, etc. These folks were mobile and uninjured, and NOT a priority.
I understand giving the benefit of the doubt, but this just happened to me a couple of weeks ago in Barnsdall, Oklahoma. It is very frustrating that we don’t have solution based people in these positions. They just want to find a way to say no.
Not really. There could be hundreds of people without homes. They are responding and assessing the situation. If they elected to pick up 2 people for a ride, while 2 other people would be seriously injured or potentially dying…people would be criticizing the cop and firefighters for not helping the people in more serious need.
He built an amazing room, and clearly worth everything. Yeah, I have been frustrated by lack of assistance by cops in two states, two different disasters. Check out my video from Barnsdall, OK
The cop may be busy doing something but it sure looked like he was doing nothing. He forgot he serves the people. Those two could have died for all he cared. Rediculous.
I survived the first Kentucky tornado, the 12-10-2021 Mayfield KY tornado, i was working at the candle factory that night. So i understand that poor people my heart is with them ! 🙏
I survived the 1974 f5 in xenia Ohio. I watched it out the back window destroy everything 100ft from our house. The most scared I've ever been. The lord was looking out that day.
@@clwest3538 I'll need willing to bet, that he just built it. He had thought about it prior, then took that picture and made it reality. That's what my dad would do. Have to have a knowledge of how to do it of course. I wish I had been able to lean more about it from him, cause I really have minimal talent in that area. I'm a great assistant though, and I am a trauma nurse so I was also able to take care of any injuries. That was a very sturdy room he built. I would like one myself.
Thank you for this video. I am here in Ohio county KY and we were scared last night because that tornado was headed for us. If it hadn’t been for that squall line from Indiana moving south and dissipating that super cell, we would have been hit too. We have nowhere to really shelter here but have done nothing about it either. For years we have always “lucked out” by storms going north or south of us. I think it’s about time we gave up on luck and got a storm shelter. What gave us all the time and warning we needed to be safe was the coverage of the storms by “Ryan Hall Y’all” on RU-vid. Next time storms come, please watch him. He and his team save lives by warning us far in advance of what is on its way. Jonathan, thank you for your care and concern for us all.
That officer that wouldn’t help that couple get warm is disgraceful their job is to serve the community and help in whatever way they can! He failed that couple and the community
You ever read the parts of scriptures in context they don't tell you to read. SDA here for 30 years and finally reading stuff that is absurdly shocking about Moses Soldiers and what they were condoned to own after killing off millions of babies breast feeding mothers is shockingly mad. apologist cant twist it but it said what it said directly meant and new is just as much.
I sit here in Australia each year watching as a retired chaser/photographer. Johnathan the empathy you show for those impacted comes through. Thankfully lessons are being learned from previous seasons & people are listening to chasers when they say ‘get to shelter now’. The elderly gentleman at the end broke me.
I was watching Ryan hall y’all’s stream and when he mentioned this tornado I was shaking knowing people with mobile homes most likely won’t survive. Bless your hearts😔💗
Looked like a city cop, not county. Just par for the course with canaries if you ask me, most treat the public like the enemy and are repulsed by the idea of actually helping us instead of extracting revenue out of us. If you want help from a public employee find a fireman.
Jonathan, if I had a storm shelter, I’m pretty sure your face is the first I would want to see. You definitely are a hero. The faith these people have is awe inspiring.
Those words are very sweet. I haven't seen any other videos of Jonathan's but storm chasers really help with SAR, and it seems like Jonathan does too. Thank you for that.
Thank you Johnathan for covering the human experience aspect of a tornado.. My heart breaks for that last gentleman you interviewed.. His tired... So many resources need to be provided for immediate relief after being in a tornado.. Not all families have someone to call for help.. It's a thin line for so many.. This was a heartbreaking story to watch.. Awesome coverage ❤️..
This was a fabulous video. You did a terrific job showing these people's stories in an incredibly short time after this last tornado. Amazing to literally watch this in real time with Ryan Hall one night and see this aftermath the next day. Underground shelters save lives, as does your story telling.
I don’t care what that officer had going on. Those people just lost everything and barely survived. You give them your back seat to keep warm and worry about the rest in a few moments. Ridiculous.
So he should just put the call for an entrapped truck driver who’s about to drown in a flooded ditch on the back burner to make someone feel warm and fuzzy inside?
Fema didn't help him. I've heard they don't help most people. I know they didn't help me. A couple years after the disaster I got a letter saying I hadn't turned in a form by the deadline so I wouldn't qualify. 2 weeks later I got the form in the mail. That's the gov. for you. I'm just glad they aren't in charge of our health care.
The problem with FEMA disaster declarations paying out is the biggest part of the formula the government uses is based on the whole dollar amount of damage. So, if a tornado completely destroys a sparsely populated rural area- they won't meet the dollar threshold.
Oh, the older man who lost his house and community made me so sad. The baby being rescued made me panic! Thank God the baby is alive and recovered well! I am inspired by the faith of these people. 🙏 I was in a tornado in Illinois, 1991. Injured my C6 in my neck. It’s been a constant source of pain for me. But, I lived.
This couple’s survival story has motivated my family to invest into a storm pod. We didn’t even know these things were available within our budget. So many times while hunkering in our little cellar, my instincts were screaming “This isn’t safe enough”. We’ve looked at various options over the past few days. Looks like a stand alone “Storm Shed” is our best option. Thank you for everything you do and for getting this story to so many of us. ❤
That is awesome to hear! We all need to take personal lessons away from these events and prepare, just like this couple did with their homemade shelter. It’s why I focus on people stories so much in these storms and the aftermath.
I love that woman she just kept giving God the praise. It is a miracle they are all alive. Lord continue to be with them as their lives are rebuilt ..again.❤
The man says; "I smell gas, do you smell gas?" 'Woman with lit cigarette says; Yes I smell gas." This is gut-wrenching, so painful. Over 900 and counting tornados this season.
JESUS CHRIST IS RETURNING SOON GET BAPTIZED AND REPENT OF YOUR SINS. MATTHEW 24 END OF DAYS SIGNS TOLD TO THE DISCIPLES BY OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST, WARS AND RUMORS OF WARS, EARTHQUAKES AND FLOODS AND EXTREME WEATHER ALL OVER THE WORLD, AND ARMIES SURROUNDING ISRAEL WHICH IS CURRENTLY HAPPENING, AND AMERICA TURNING IT'S BACK ON ISRAEL AFTER THE ECLIPSE THAT PUT AN X ACROSS AMERICA THIS LAST APRIL, .......WE ARE FUCKED AS A COUNTRY FOR TURNING ON GOD ALMIGHTY YAHWEH AND HIS PEOPLE ISRAEL.... THE WORST IS YET TO COME.....GOD HAVE MERCY ON THESE BLIND PEOPLE😢
Heartbreaking. Sending prayers. When you asked her if about the gas leak, she said “yal” she had that cigarette ready to light, you had to be thinking to yourself… 🙏 please don’t light it, please don’t light it. That was my first thought when I saw the cigarette. Bless her heart she was a nervous wreck, I know she was holding on to her fur baby.
The public officials were worthless in helping that couple. The police could have helped them. Were they going to leave them out in the rain outside their shredded home?
Thank You for what you did for that couple Sir. You are a Angel sent from Heaven to help those people. You were so thoughtful and sweet, caring to them. I Thank You for being a Loving and wonderful person!!! As for that other person who is supposed to be a "community servant", I have a whole different set of feelings. He's the type that make them all look bad. Thank the Lord above, not all police are like him!!!!
The stories of these people, it just breaks my heart. I cry so much with these stories-How can you heal from all of that trauma- God bless all of them.🙏🙏
Blessing for eons and nothing ever blessed for eons. God let destrction and still allows human suffering and death then hell after. Skepticals Smart people who know the scriptures in full context. strange why christians by most only know 10% of the inspired word. think they would want to know the entire book but don't stating God bless
Ya protect and serve and let those people stand out in the rain and wind after they just rode out a tornado that left um without anything. Thanks for your service
I love the video of the guy showing off his shelter the next day...he was already busy cleaning up and had a trash bag in his hand! That's the spirit! Having lived on the Gulf Coast over 20 years, I've been through several hurricanes. I learned that getting out there as soon as it's safe and start cleaning up brings on a spirit of survival and empowerment! It brings out a sense of community and bonding like nothing else.
2021 tornado messed a lot of ppl n I'm sure they didn't know Abt survivors or how bad it really was this time. Our cops r good here they're patriots. First priority is to find survivors. Someone would of got those ppl, there's too many of us here not to . Least they didn't hault lookn for survivors so Andy brashears could do a photo op with commie in office like Dec of 2021. That made everyone especially the cops upset . We back the blue here they're our neighbors family n friends . Plz keep negative comments to yourself you wasn't here in it you dnt know how u would react until in one.
I thought I was jaded, but I still have room to be stunned that a taxpayer subsidized employee in a warm car & dry uniform facing 2 drenched survivors in shock can turn his warm backside away. He could have just driven them around in his warm, dry car. Wonder what he does at Christmas with that 'no room at the inn' part? As. a city bus driver, was in a widespread fire once, loaded up my bus along the neighborhood where I was stranded, & we just drove in circles picking up more people until an emergency shelter opened at a school. That's nothing heroic, it's common sense & being human--passengers helped me stay calm, and in a strange way? We had a real nice time. People shared snacks, water, stories. I almost feel sorry for that patrol officer. He's disconnected from his heart, common sense, & compass. Dang.
Second time in a month I have had officers refuse to offer space for people I have helped out of the rubble. In Barnsdall, OK, there was a child who was non-ambulatory and they refused to help. Glad the firefighters here stepped up and helped.
"Protect and Serve" is nothing but an antiquated bumper sticker slogan. The Supreme Court even decided cops have no duty to save you. They are not our friends.
I really like these stories showing how people survived. I always thought I’d be safe in my basement but these recent tornadoes are showing that isn’t enough.
I was so impressed how they decided to build that shelter after the 2021 tornado, just because they saw what happened in Dawson Springs…it was like a blender
The officer should be relieved of his duties! What a disgrace to his community!! Great Job to the storm chaser and eventually the fire department as they also almost refused help!
What a great guy to help this older woman. He was so sweet when he said, “Let’s make a path for her.” Scary. Praying for y’all in Kentucky from Texas. We don’t even have a basement or a storm shelter. I don’t know why that is not standard in n every home. May Jesus be with all of you! ❤️
God bless you brother. It's so saddening for these people that got hit twice in 3 years. My heart breaks for them. Thank you for helping these people. 🙏
It is hard to believe. I was checking in on friends in the area that I met after the 2021 tornado. They had just moved into their new home this year…like many folks in Barnsley, and so I can imagine the PTSD reliving that night as this one was happening.
This gentleman was so nice and caring that helped them out of the shelter. Thank you to him! I wish more people were like him. God bless this family that lost their house and all were were affected.
The cop who refuses the people to get in his car needs to be fired, if it were his mother and father he would have let them get in, even though he may have taken go some were else at least they would have been out of the weather think about others before you think of yourself sir, they just went through hell on earth
Agree that was so heartbreaking to listen and to seeing it. The sweet ppls with the dog they were so kind and weren't upset by that careless police officer but trusted on him who helped them first handed. 🥺🥺
I feel like any home without an underground basement in tornado prone areas, should be required to have a FEMA certified shelter before it can be sold.
