Magnus single handedly making grip sport trend again! ;-) Also Larry's strength on the block is nuts considering he was super fatigued at that point from rock climbing and doing all the other lifts. That's his strong point. Magnus nearly doing his bodyweight on the rolling handle, stupid strong... Magnus you bulking up you looking more muscular? Or you're using a wider lens :-D Love the vid, got some FOMO here. Love you guys!
Can we just acknowledge how nice of a guy Larry is? The dude seems so genuine. He's the kind of guy you'd want to work out next to in the gym. No ego or looking down on others for not lifting as much as he can. Just a super positive and uplifting personality.
Totally agree! I was just wanting to comment how awesome it is to see such positive encouragement in this type of environment! Definitely needs acknowledgement!
@@polpol1005 Have you met the human race? Most normal people are not this nice. Most people are dicks. Larry goes out of his way to be a considerate person.
Larry seems like such a good guy. You can tell he enjoyed being there and it was nice to see at 8:48 when he offered to help instead of just watching like most people would
@@akaraven66 That is something that I like about Americans... when they show that respect. In Australia we never call people sir, and that is okay, but I think that it is definitely classy, and a sign that they are confident in themself.
@@KayAteChef To me it always sounds so weird :P In Denmark, saying the equivalent of "sir" is very rare usually done sarcastically in my experience, so to hear someone doing it genuinely is strange.
I have a friend with blue eyes, who looks the same as Magnus, he's about 5"9" and he has such ridiculous hand strength, I've seen him on at least two occasions snap the jaws right off of cutters by trying to cut something, with commercial grade hardened cutters. I've never in my life broken a pair of cutters in half. I notice my friend's hands are also about 25% larger than mine, although his physical stature is smaller than me. There's a certain demographic of German/Swedish/Norwegian people who have absolutely insane grip strength. These people also generally have shorter than average arms, but their hands are much larger than average.
Always amazes me how freakishly strong Magnus is, he kept Larry on his toes for some of the tasks. Off topic, but Larry has a cool earthy voice. Also glad Magnus didn't rip off his skin like he usually does with the hub grip.
Keep in mind that the Rolling Thunder, and Juji’s RGT (rolling grip thing) are similar handles but different in terms of difficulty. The RGT has a better spin to it making it noticeably more difficult to use, so they deserve their own World Record lift. If someone can’t make a lift with an RGT (like they struggle and get to 75% but not an official rep) they might make that same weight with a rolling thunder
I know very well that Larry is an amazing person very respectful towards others, but in this video he showed something beyond respect towards Magnus, him calling Magnus sir and looking at him like "MAN I love what you do" with a huge amount of excitement in his eyes is just a beautiful thing to see. Love the content Magnus! Keep up the amazing work mate! :)
Man, the real amazing thing about this channel is that every video seems like a different experience when watching it. You have videos like the ones with adam and shawn which are so focused on the climbing world, the crag, finding new techniques... And then you have stuff like this which is genuinely fun and wholesome training. And each video has its own magic, no video is composed the same way because it feels like the experience influences the way the video is edited from start to bottom. That's the reason this channel is one of the strongest climbing channels and it will remain this way if you keep making videos this way.
Magnus, your ability to master your own competitive nature is fascinating. You do all these 'competitions/comparisons' with strong athletes (Who are also competitive by nature.) and yet that is not the energy that comes off these videos. Shared curiosity about personal limits is the energy you generate in these collaborations. I'm going to theorize that even though you are an introvert (By your own definition.) that you also exert considerable leadership influence on those around you. Influence/leadership is a hard quality to pin down, different people achieve it by different energies but the consistency of how your collaborations flow suggests YOU have a significant leadership effect even if you are not 'trying' to lead.
Been watching you for years and I just want to say I love your content. Makes me wish we had some sort of bouldering where I'm from, Id be climbing everyday. Great to see Larry is back, keep up the good content :)
The pinch block world record is 51.40 kg (113.31 lb.) by Harri Tolonen of Finland. There's footage of Larry though in Iceland with Thor and Juji where he almost broke that years ago, it was off the ground.
This recent trend of collabing with other fitness influencers unrelated to climbing has cause an immense fangirl reaction out of me I have not felt since early youth, as a current adult. This shit goes hard.
This sort of stuff that Magnus does is pretty awesome. Gives an idea of power to weight ratios vs. overall power. Lifting a weight for a power lifter vs. being able to lift yourself when climbing.
Rolling thunder is an Ironmind product, while RGT (Rolling grip thing - the thing you were using) is a Grip genie product. RGT is much harder than Rolling thunder which is why the record you posted is so much higher than the weights you guys lifted.
I have always trained my grip as a small man and you have really got me back into it! My grandfather closed the Captains of Crush #1 gripper at age 68 back in 2005 with little training. It's a great feeling knowing no one can yank you away in a Judo match!
Love these collaboration videos. Thank you Magnus for continuing to show the world that things aren't always what they appear, and that in fitness a smaller person can work towards and obtain a very tall peak without having to concern oneself so much with muscle mass.
You know bodybuilders train for size right? You can train strength and gain minimal to no muscle if you want, just do harder lifts for less reps. Also don’t bulk much
Would have been a sensational experience to have a gym day in the same place at the same time. After the initial wonderment of where on earth have all the plates gone, what would have followed would have been an uncanny observation of two stylishly dressed blokes single-handedly lifting said weights close to the climbing walls in absurd quantities, employing contraptions to make the entire operation more difficult. Certainly, an experience for a lifetime. Great video!
two humble but talented competitors, trying to best each other, but always complimentary of each other and exuding great sportsmanship - awesome to see
Magnus you are influencing the whole world. We went a few times indoor climbing. Mentioned it to some parents of kids, now they just had their birthday party there. And they are not climbers at all. Never been. Most of them didn't even try the walls. but the kids all loved it. Keep it up
Really love to have a new video every week in this last week's. I enjoy every one of them but would love to have a real climbing video in the near future.
"People who watch your videos feel like they watch a friend" Just heard you say that in a video about your story. Love that statement because it's true. We keep coming back because we appreciate you Magnus.
Definitely enjoy these videos lately, but I also hope magnus will still put out more of the climbing-focused videos as well. Really like the longer bouldering videos and stuff like that
Love to see good quality content that focuses on grip strength, I have been following Larry for a while and I am really impressed at the grip strength of rock climbers. Amazing
Ha! I've been waiting for this one Magnus. You and Larry have personalities that just fit. Here's the crazy thing, Larry is one of the strongest men in the world and 75 pounds heavier than you, but as I'm watching each exercise I expect you to win!
It seems like Larry has really mellowed out over the years. Honestly, even though I liked him years ago, I think calm Larry is even more enjoyable to watch.
Magnus is the most humble dude I have ever seen in videos, maybe a tie with Brian Shaw on humbleness. I love how Magnus will do everything he can to help them beat him. The lift weight to body weight ratio Magnus can lift with grip strength is insane. Hats off to Larry, first time I ever watched the guy and he seems like a pretty cool guy as well.
Not sure if anyone has said it yet, but the vertical handle lift is sometimes called an Excalibur lift/grip, since it's supposed to feel like pulling a sword from a stone, and the Grip Genie product is called Hilt
Putting magnus’s feet on blocks may have helped on a few of those. Being shorter put the lift half way up the abdomen beforehand which is tough to get leverage
Very enjoyable to watch guests like these. This guy is also really charismatic. So if he hasn't started his own youtube channel yet(and he wants to), he probably should.
Love these collabs! Also, couldn't help reacting to the sneakers Larry is casually using in the gym. Let's just say I'd keep my chalk bag far away from those!
It was so funny watching the collab video on Magnus's channel where he doesn't add any extra drama or do much heavy editing on his videos. Larry comes across as such a humble quiet guy. Then on Larry's channel, he plays up the tough guy thing for his viewers because that's what you need to do on a powerlifting channel I guess. I definitely like Magnus's video editing style a lot better, but I'm sure they'd both be super cool to hang out with.
Wow man, huge inspiration. Would have never thought a rock climbing content could be so interesting. I am a boxer, I wanna try doing something similar with that too.
Magnus, love to see these kind of videos/vlogs where you do these kind of challanges. Looking forward to see your next video (power-, climbing or Marte challange. Thanks from Bergen NO
Magnus' face at the end, super tired, could barely end the video haha I think what killed him was the slow increase in weights in the first one. A lot more reps were done so even if light it tires the muscle more. Nice competition regardless!
OMG those grips are insane!! I love this videos, thanks to you I got into climbing recently, hope to see more collabs in the future~ like Nathaniel Coleman :D
Larry has a movie voice and I'm sure he's heard that before. Great video. Loved the colour choice of the "point counter circles" with the pictures in it.
The constant back and forth of "oh no, you totally had more in you, you almost had me, you totally rocked it" is the exact kind of wholesomeness I needed today.
Magnus, please do a collab with Anatoly (Vladimir Shmodenko), it would be so interesting to see that guy do rock climbing. He is crazy strong with lean muscles and lightweight. So I'm guessing very similar to your power but without all the experience and technique for rock climbing.
