I've struggled to find a garage that can do this, really chuffed to find this video, its given me the confedece todo the task myself - great video many thanks!!
Thank you so much! You have no idea how long I've been searching for someone to tell me where on the fan housing is TDC and 8 BTDC. My 2l t2 doesn't have a timing scale. I had to do the valve and piston position check to get it but now this just confirms I'm in the right spot.
Fantastic descriptions. I've had a a good go trying to start my 2.0 CU. It turns over well but does not fire. Fuel delivery is good. Looks like electronics next up to look at.....OMG not looking forward to that. Its a 1980 RHD Doka. This video will help.
hmm - so the earth pin underneath the dizzy is for brake lights etc? When you replace it with this powerspark one, what goes in the place of this wire?
So when fit electronic points do u disregard wiener loom going in2 the ignition control unit take it off all and wire back on negative --- red on + on 2 the coil from the electronic points thanks Carol pls text back big thanks 4 all helpful videos so so fabulous...Carol up Scotland Glasgow..🇬🇧
Hello Carol, When you fit a powerspark dizzy and coil, all you need is the live feed to the ignition, and vacuum to the lh carb.So you do not need the idle stabiliser or the Aluminium amplifier, or the 'wiener' loom. Simple and tidy. Hope this helps, Cordialement,
Great video as always. Looks like something is wrong on mine as when rotor arm point where yours does my timing mark is at TDC. So when im at TDC my rotor arm is at about 5 o'clock.
Hi thanks 4 ur videos all brilliant..I did all Mark's timing pulley on my van just like ur step by step do timing thin is when I put test light on coil negative _ then earth the light stays on all time even when I move distributor left or right it stays on ... is this normal light stays on when u got electronics ignition points thanks .....Carol
Hello Carol, Good point, the Hall effect produces the pulse by the field collapsing at the required moment, so the dizzy is powered all the time, only losing its charge when the spark happens. Sort of the other way round to a points and condensor dizzy, which stays shut until the cam opens the points, breaks the circuit and energises the coil, By the way, it is a good idea to have a spare sensor and fitting screw as a spare, if anything goes wrong, as you can't see what is wrong... Cordialement,
Hello, Nope, the TDC for the CU is at 12 o clock, the CT is about 11:30.If you have a strobe, the setting in the video will be enough to get the engine started, then you adjust, 8ish degrees BTDC for 98/95 RONpetrol, a bit less for lower grade . Cordialement,
Hi, some great pointers, thanks. Which coil do you recommend as already bought a replacement coil before realising the dizzy itself might be at fault; I think this may be the way to get my 2L T25 to finally start!
Hello, If you had a 'Hall effect' system (with 2 tubes coming out of the 'capsule'), then you can use that coil. If you use a points and condenser dizzy you will need a low resistance coil.. the resistance values of the 'Hall effect' coil are shown in the video.. Hope this helps.. Cordialement,
Very useful vids sarran. 1 question, I've googled for the Powerspark 043 SVDA dizzy but can't find any signs of it, did you mean the 034 SVDA dizzy? Thanks
Ah! I have a problem then. When the finger of the rotor arm is roughly pointing to the 0 timing mark, the square cut out in the turbine pulley, is also pointing towards the 0 timing mark. Yours is 2 clock, mine is 10 oclock. Yet mine still runs, but is a bit flat for an 1800. Is it 180 deg out? if so how do I fix it, without taking anything apart, as I assume the distributor will only go in one wasy, offset peg?
Hello, Indeed your timing is out, but not by 180* I suspect that the distributor drive has been put in wrongly, remove it with long nosed pliers and try back into a new position. Make sure you have the little spring between drive and distributor. Trial and error. Cordialement,
Hi, i followed your video but with a 123ignition. I made all the marks, but when i fired up the engine it runs on idle at around 40degrees. It dies at idle at around 32degrees and up to 48 degrees, is it just my timing light thats of ?
Sorry bother you am bit confused as I taking engine out and now put back in I got electronic ignition coil but thing is ... I taking away all old wires loom and there two wires one positive + one - negative . duzz the ignition positive + go on coil ...negative - go on oil pressure switch duzz coil have to b earth of body
Hello, From the Powerspark distributor there are 2 wires, red and black, red goes to the power feed + side of the coil, the Black goes to the - side of the coil. Do not get this wrong or you will blow the module. Cordialement,
Thanks 4 good points ...still having time of it starting my van driving me nuts ... can't get it going ps wish u live next door pop in fix my van lol keep up good work videos are brilliant so helpful
