We'll try to not let this get to Blake's head, but he is a good dude for sure! So glad that you are all set up! That Atlas 40 tune is ASTOUNDING and represents, for us, Reason 10023 to know that God loves us and wants us to be happy! :)
Contrary to what is shared on other RU-vid channels, we are NOT fans of adding ANY cables from the trans to the frame as we don't want to encourage electron flow that way. Both our interconnect cable kit (www.ficmrepair.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=58/category_id=-1/mode=prod/prd58.htm) and our Deluxe Cable Kit (www.ficmrepair.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=59/category_id=-1/mode=prod/prd59.htm) include a 1/0 cable that goes from the driver cylinder head to the driver frame to 'help' the electrons 'decide' to hit ground NOT through the transmission. Just as water seeks its lowest point, electrons seek their least resistive path. This one cable is what you need to prevent the torque converter from seeking to weld itself to the front pump!
How about side by side alt comparison, even a spread sheet type, involving dc, us and leece. Both of my 270 dc are still kicking butt as is my ficm from U. No regrets on these investments. Nice videos too! Mike
These are all for a single alt truck. My truck is a dual alt and the PCM controls the amp output. If and when I need a replacement would I need to reprogram the PCM if the alternators are larger than the stock 120 and 140 amp versions (total of 260)? Also do you know the cold start Amps output on the dual alternator setup?
The PCM on a Powerstroke 6.0 only controls whether one or both alternators are engaged. Voltage regulation inside each alternator determines the number of amps that each activated unit puts out. Sadly, both alternators are never engaged when the glow plugs are on as the stock wiring can't handle it. We recommend folks to switch to a larger single unit. To your question, though, no re-programming of the PCM is required when making this change.
I have a truck camper full time on my 2005 f350 cc lb drw. I dry camp most of the time and in the cold the furnace fans draw the camper batteries down. I have an on board LP generator to keep the batteries charged. I would like to also use a dc to dc renogy charger from my truck alternator. Renogy mentions a smart alternator?? Are theses alternators smart and if yes, do you know what is required? Tnx bob Gutschow
When most talk about 'smart' alternators, what they mean is one with an integrated voltage regulator that will not overcharge. This line of alternators absolutely meets that bill! The amp hour total capacity of your batteries combined with the depth of discharge that you'd like to be able to recover from will help determine the best fit.
The installation is pretty straightforward with no drilling required except for the possibility of some cable ends. If you run into issues, please don't hesitate to reach out! We'll add an install video to our todo list!
Same belt, but piggybacking larger wires is a MUST. Either our basic kit at www.ficmrepair.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=29/category_id=-1/mode=prod/prd29.htm or our deluxe kit at www.ficmrepair.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=59/category_id=-1/mode=prod/prd59.htm will work nicely!
