How's your Powkiddy X18s now? Is it still working okay? If yes, what about the battery life? Will you be doing a teardown to see if the battery can be upgraded to a higher capacity?
WOW Holy shit! powkiddy is $80 level , not is $172.99... good byes it x18s, I give up this time. $172 go to buy a Switch says:「package from Japannnnnnnnnnn」
Man I 'was' really looking forward to this one, but now seeing the price and performance and just having bought my poco x3 pro... Nah I'm good... But now that I think about it, how can be all the powkiddy stuff be 'sooooo' different. Are they basically just buying random stuff that they think might sell well and slam their logo on it (Like Trust and Medion)?
@@drummer4hire12 "trust me bro" No. They do put out a lot of crap, but they also have a few excellent devices which this channel and others have extensively covered and endorsed, so unless you have something substantive to contribute, consider keeping your mouth shut instead of putting people off from decent products with no context.
I think the new Beast standards should be able to play dreamcast at 60fps and psp at 2x resolution on most psp games and n64 should play well also on most games…. of course excluding the hard to run games on all these systems…
@@Pridetoons kinda but psp had to be dropped to 1x so the powkiddy x17 is more like a beast in training LOL. It needs to eat more wheaties and try out for next years team
Thanks for the shout out buddy, ya the new update…change’s the screen refresh rate to 60.1 and google play…I love the X18S but that D-pad is dreadful lol
That D-Pad i don't understand it at all. Why not improve some things... the D-pad at least 👺 Yeah maybe make new video when we have a couple of new updates. For now i hate it... 😑
@@WickedGamerCollector well I’m pinning my hopes to the powkiddy A20 hopefully that’s much better out of the box. Thanks Wicked always enjoy your video’s 😎👍🏼
This is just a updated rip off of the GPD XD . It looks nice but it needs another screen so it could be the kind of rip off the GPD XD was trying to be but failed at which is a rip off of the DS
You have a lot to learn when it comes to the Shenzhen philosophy and the Chinese handheld industry. Copying a design is common there, and the DS didn't invent the clamshell design anyway.
I just tried PS2 emulation on the Powkiddy X18S in one of my videos and actually some games were actually playable “SOME” , but none the less one of the best handhelds this year, the powkiddy x18s is a beast no doubt
It's sad it has most of the same flaws as the previous one. It still looks cool, but then again, my gpd xd still runs OK, and I'm doing very little gaming and some of it is pc gaming nowadays.
@@Pridetoons funny thing, only one of them said they had an issue, and the fact that you have purchased two devices from among thousands doesn't mean anything for overall quality control. But thanks for coming in and insulting people for no reason and claiming results based on your miserably lacking anecdotal evidence.
@@wordsmith451 1) Our experiences are both anecdotal. 2) A lot of people don't take care of their devices. 3) If he opened it up and the hinge broke I'm sorry that happened to him/her and hope GPD corrects their mistake. 4) Again my GPD XD and GPD XD+ have no problems with the hinges. That's my and a lot of other people's personal experiences.
This would be fantastic at $125, but at $172 it's only $28 cheaper than the Odin Lite. That's unacceptable. And the fact that the RGB10MAX is $127 is criminal. Same with the RG351MP - NO RK3326 device should cost more than $100, especially when I can grab the v90 for as little as $25 and basically play the same games. Wifi, Bluetooth, and a metal case aren't worth 4x or 6x the price. Standard rk3326 should be $50 maximum and $100 for top models. When you can get the Odin for $200, the 351MP costing $150 is just insulting. This isn't 2019 anymore and we shouldn't be paying so much for garbage hardware. True, the x18s has a T618 which is a massive jump over 3326 and a solid chip, but when you can get tablets and phones for the same price with much better specs, we're basically paying a premium for a plastic shell and buttons.
Any DIY project will give you better performance as it stands now, which is just sad... i still have high hopes in Valve establishing a new market with cheap x86 devices, and we still have the Vita... at least, you get an OLED :) Nice review, as always 👍
Not a bad device, but the price… for me is TGH (if you don’t know Flossy 😃 this means too gat damn high). 100 euro or dollars and this is a win. Again your money, your decision!
Another lame handheld console no L3 & R3 on joysticks, some PS1 games need L3 & R3. Best separate use my mobile & wireless XBOX controller worked well.
Still no Android handheld that can run Dolphin. WHY OH WHY is there not ONE Android handheld that can run Dolphin?? And NO i DON'T want to use my phone with some controllergrips, I want a NATIVE android handheld that can run Dolphin, no matter the price! (and NOT a Windows handheld).
@@Phoenix_VanDerWeyden he tried to run the emulator he said but it's unclear if the emulator didn't start or the games didn't run. But thanks for the reply.
It's pretty obvious that Powkiddy rushed this device out to cater to the "Muh GameCube" crowd. They added no improvements to the controls. I hope the RG552 blows this out of the water.
@@wordsmith451 The first time they delayed it was because the Chipset wasn't powerful enough to run GameCube Emulation. They still didn't improve the controls of the device or make any significant improvements to the device outside the screen. They have no excuse.
Another blatant copy of the GPD XD+. Wicked: Hopfully we get a Firmware update. Powkiddy: What's a Firmware? They still use cheap adhesives and what about the hinge?
$60 prepaid cellphones can now emulate dreamcast&psp so the chips are cheap enough to where these chinese handheld game systems performance can improve if they choose to do it
The performance of this Handheld should be at least on par with the Retroid Pocket 2+. We probably need to use older emulators on this device also Powkiddy just released a firmware update a few days ago.
@@WickedGamerCollector I bought a $60 prepaid trac phone from walmart with a Snapdragon 632 and it will emulate psp 2x dreamcast 60fps and duckstation ps1 at 2x 60fps which looks really good btw on ps1. Of course this excludes the hard to run titles but for the most part its all you need unless you want to run gamecube and wii and that will take a snapdragon 800 series or equivalent to run and that would put you in the $350 range or so…
Locked android O.S. is messy. No trigger buttons, for this price they could have added some. They still use epsxe at 2021 instead of Duckstation app for PSX emulation which offers more optimization, upscaling, etc... I assume it won run heaviest PS1 games at full fps like Formula one race. Emulators are loose load on this device (retroarch offers emulation cores). The biggest downside is the motherboard they are using. Overall it's great choice for games up to Playstation X.
The problem with upgrading systems like this for emulation is that emulators run on a single core... So a big 8 core CPU doesn't help the situation at all. For example, if you have a 2.0ghz dual core CPU, it's going to emulate better than a 1.5ghz 8 core CPU. Most modern CPU upgrades are more worried with adding cores, creating a sort of catch-22.
Spec wise, it's not bad for a handheld at that cost. Too bad they messed up the controls. Doesn't seem to perform as well as it should though. Must be Android hogging up resources.
You may as well just stick with the original X18. Doesn't look like they did anything other than change the color of the thing and "update" to Android 11. Big whoop. I wonder if they fixed the control issue that it had.
Very strange test. Why didn't you try Gamecube? Because it runs very well. And PSP runs very well with the standalone PPSSPP, as does N64. Dreamcast runs perfectly with Reicast, including Daytona. You have to take the standalone emulators and make a few settings. By far the most powerful handheld (less than € 1000) currently, which even plays Gamecube so well.
The idea behind this console is certainly a winning one, that is the idea of making it clamshell, even the smallest consoles should do the same, you would have larger screens and at the same time very compact dimensions when they are closed. I would never buy it because here in Italy it costs about 250 euros, a lot, for this price I would like a processor a little more powerful, but the thing I just don't accept are the controls, they have a very poor quality, very badly done. Frankly I don't understand how these Chinese can make these big mistakes, does it take a genius to put the same controls as the anbernics? if those controls are praised by everyone, just choose the same suppliers !! just incomprehensible!
Great video but Powkiddy 18s is quite disappointing. Emulation is not good enough right now. Too bad. Thanks again. Readers, hit the little bell and join the wicked family.
I've got an X18s, and can concur with all of this. PSP is worse than many handhelds from the last Gen. Some GC games run okay, but nowhere near as was promised. Saturn is a disaster. I bought this for these consoles. But it will improve, and I'm surea cleanrom will appear. But, yeah. Meh.
Your most likely going to have to use older emulators like the GPD XD+ also updating the Firmware might help. A new Firmware update just came out a few days ago.
Please upgrade to the latest firmware, and then comment according to your major. I believe you will love X18S. As far as I know, X18S is currently one of the best Android consoles. Games are running smoothly in full frames, thank you!
@@powkiddy3810 Thank you, but I'm not able to. I've followed your instructions to the letter to update, but when I hold down the minus button and connect the unit nothing happens. It won't update. I've tried many cables, restarted and tried again. Please make an OTA update, or allow us Mac users to use macs. But thanks for replying.
Agreed! They basically went the Retroid Pocket 2 route and focused solely on Gamecube, PSP, N64, Dreamcast, and Saturn Emulation and didn't improve the core device.
i hated the name call POW KIDDY? it comes with 3 trash games? u need roms & emulations which i don't know how to do it? or where to find it.. this console remind me of nintendo 3ds... the black 1 look better..
when i played dark games like Doom 64 on X18, the black colors were inverted. it's hard to explain but it was definitely wrong. i wonder if they fixed it on X18s
@@mrburns366 I got mine 2nd hand, like new, for very cheap so I couldn't really complain. It's not a bad device, but falls a bit short compared to an XD+ with LineageOS 18.1.
hi Wicked gamer! I love your new Logo its awesome! I brought the x15 when it came out and hated it because of the OS but thankfully there was a clean rom brought out. I know use it as a streaming and emulation device. Also plays Android games good 2. 🤞they do something similar with the x18s. Keep up the great Videos! 👍
Wait, it's out now? I completely forgot this thing existed after it missed its Spring 2021 release date. Such a shame that it only seems to be a slight upgrade, I wasn't the biggest fan of the original but I was really hoping they'd improve on what that got wrong.
Hi man my teleportation magic box its broken naw fist pad butens cam off and pop on today all arcade game have gone no pc to back it up sd card so bit up set and thort you shud know for chanel psp is so nice on it
I think I'll keep my old GPD XD with Android 8.1 as my main emulation handheld. The Powkiddy V90 has proven a good companion while commuting on a crime ridden city.
Hey You can't compare Powkiddy with Anbernic. Although at Anbernic not everything is always perfect! My new RG351m was a Monday device where the Dpad clicked really unnaturally (known problem with the RG351m). So I had to open it and grind a piece away from the back of the Dpad now it's like it should be with a good device xD but I have a lot of Anbernic products and this was the only mistake so far :) The x18s would have been a completely new development should and not just an x18 refresh with a different color and a slightly stronger mainboard (firmware update required)! Too bad that was probably my last Powkiddy product.
After the LCD flexcable problem on my GPDXD, I just can't trust on ANY clamshell gaming console. It's great, it's beauty, but I prefer the "PSP" shell style, like RG350 and others.
Haven't had an issue with the Flexcable on my XD, tough I had to replace the plastic housing on the front of the display; the hinge somehow broke the plastic. And since the steps to replace that thing are more or less exactly the same..... Yeah it was a pain in the Arse. Just from the perspective of playing on a device, I'd still prefer the Clamshell tough.
Are they using that terrible "rubber-like" texture on the shell? I can't stand that stuff on chinese devices because they start melting in 2 years forcing you to either buy another or scrape it off which is a nightmare.
What a disappointment. I was looking forward this new version, but once again its not enough. The chinese portable companies strategy of marginal/minimal improvements every year will now cost them dearly, because the Steam Deck will make most of them irrelevant from 2022 and onwards.
Please upgrade to the latest firmware, and then comment according to your major. I believe you will love X18S. As far as I know, X18S is currently one of the best Android consoles. Games are running smoothly in full frames, thank you!
Look here is PooooooooooooooooooowKIDDY !! them selves. Yes.. if we make a update we will update and see what we will get 🤓 This was my first impression out of the box so people know what to get 🙄
Hmm so best to grab the orig version because this upgrade is barely noticeable. I've been on the fence for awhile but I'd like the x18 for the screen and the hopes to play some n64 and dreamcast. I have a note 5 with a telescopic controller that plays all of that very well with a amoled screen. But I'd like a folding dedicated handheld like this to play on. Thanks for the review makes me not wanna grab it.
I made the mistake of buying the original X18. Would never make that mistake again. I was never able to get any emulator properly working on it nor, could I get it to accept a clean rom install. It was a total piece of crap. Doesn't look like much has changed with the new one. At least the RGB10 Max is decent.
Did you try Saturn on the Yaba Sanshiro standalone v1 or however they call it, they have only v2 on the play store now? I had more luch with that one (Kirin 710f). Great review, hope you'll do the custom firmware video.
Yana Shanshiro works beautifully on my phone ( doesn't recognise Bluetooth pads sadly ) but the Pro version 2 won't load any games. Stick with the free version
