It’s the red and green light that is merged and blue is the one that causes the chromatic aberration (blue halo)

Thank you for explaining the differences of doublet/triplet and materials used to build telescopes. I was wondering why there was so much difference in price between refractors, now I understand! Clear skies Larry!

Great video for us newbies! With the new Finder TW2 about to release, we shall see how good the AI in the imager is at correcting things like Chromatic aberrations etc. 71 year old retired veteran here with very limited discretionary income. Being able to get the new model coming out as an investor, for about $170 less than its retail price when it goes to full production, made the deal for me. We shall see how it turns out!

I recently got a 60mm refractor as my first ever telescope. Loving it, although I dont think I got a particularly good one.

I always encourage beginners to go to Astronomy Shows, Star Parties, Observatories and Science Lectures before purchasing their first telescope! It gives them an insight what Stargazing is all about 👌

Great points to consider concerning equipment prices. You can have just as much fun in a Mazda Miata on a twisty road as in a Ferrari. It’s all about the journey. Have learned a lot watching your videos. Thanks. 😎

There’s also different types of ED glass which is a measure of the quality of diffraction control. The field flattener for the 80ED will fit your telescope

Great video! I don't mind the false color too much I have used a yellow filter with a 90mm refractor that had issues and that helped I've since sold that telescope. I have looked into a Baader semi APO filter for use on my other refractors but it hasn't been in stock. I did spy the powerseeker behind you that was my first telescope in 2018.

Thank you for the comment. So many things not in stock or on back order these days! Took me 4 moths to get a Baader eyepiece.I‘ve had that EQ 127 for awhile now. Been meaning to give it to my grandkids but they seem to be interested in things other than astronomy. So I’ll hang onto it for a while. Not a great scope but I’ve enjoyed viewing and imaging the moon

Thank you Larry for another interesting video! I have a reflecting telescope and might consider a small refractor in the future. Happy New Year!

Thank you, Larry! I just subbed & I've only seen a few of your videos. But if I may I'd like to offer some advice for your consideration. I'm 66 & a southron so I think I can offer the benefit of my training. You mentioned your research for this video & that indicates your genuine desire to help. In that vein I suggest you prepare an outline. In training for public speaking I was taught to use an outline. As a beginner I was told to wrote out my assignment to help commit it to memory. Then, to simplify the presentation I was taught to use an outline. The next advancement was to strive for concision in speech, to be brief. Our training put limits on how much time we had. So we were taught to limit how many points to address. I hope these tips help you as they have me. Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!

I have used my 60mm spotting scope for a long time, but it needs a diagonal and it's not made for them.

I clicked this video because of Orion telescope. I've got myself an Orion GoScope III 70mm telescope with tripod, 20mm and 9mm eyepieces, search scope and a this angle thingy (sorry i'm not English) for about a 100 dollars (430PLN) for christmas. But I am actual beginner So i was interested in the tips too. I was not dissapointed. The part about lenses was super informative and interesting and cleared alot of my questions about images i saw through my telescope. Thank you very much.

What mount are you going to use for it? And also, just wondering, it seems that the old 70mm's OTA is movable from seeing how you handle it. Can the 70mm scope be used manually? I assume its the electronics that have failed.
@oldgazer7200
@oldgazer7200 2 года назад
For now I’ll be using my Go-To alt-az mount. Yeah my 70 mm is a Meade ETX 70 that my family bought me over 20 years ago. You’re right, the electronics have failed, but that’s not all. The OTA is molded plastic made to fit the mount it came with and the mount has developed a serious crack on one of the arms right where the OTA fits . I could probably do a little DIY work - maybe try to fix the crack or add some kind of mounting plate and/or rings so I could use another mount. But I’ve never been very good at DIY stuff, so for now I’ll just spend some time trying out the new 80 mm.

@@oldgazer7200 80 mm is a bigger aperture so you will be better off. Hope you get to use it soon!
