Practice fixing a Puncture for my Royal Enfield Meteor 350. 

Interesting instructions in that. My preference is this method: 1) find/remover the intrusive material 2) ream sides of puncture ("push reamer in/out") with rod file or reamer tool (never seen instructions say to put epoxy on reamer... interesting) 3) place repair strip in insertion tool with tool at midpoint of strip (congratulations on figuring out the secret plier-pull step) 4) coat strip with epoxy while in insertion tool (as in before insertion) 5) aim point of tool into center of intrusion point 6) push tool into hole until have of strip left sticking out 7) give the tool a fast yank to remove tool 8) cut excess material away 9) particularly if I am able to let the tire sit overnight before riding, I leave a few minutes to cure, check for bubbles, pop and recover with a bit of epoxy. If you cant wait, air up slowly and watch for bubbles. Giver it another drop if necessary. I find that coating the strip first seems to seal the hole better.

Hi Charlie, well done and 👍 to the dealer for the tyres and advice . Just remember stop soon as you feel the bike wobble and try keep the tyre sealed on the rim this will make it easier to inflate with the little emergency air bottle.

Although I've never tried them, riders have said that C02 cartridges only have enough air to fill a dirt bike tire. I carry a small 12v compressor and have used it several times to fill a tire I repaired using what we call a "sticky snake." It takes a while, but my little compressor got the rear tire up to 50 psi. I let it sit overnight in the hotel parking lot then rechecked it in the morning and it was still at 50 psi.

Smart of you to practice on old tires! I have the repair kit but have only seen how to do it on RU-vid.

12:57 just discovered your channel today and this is my second video I've watched. I love your sense of humor, sense of adventure and your willingness to put yourself out there. I used one of those kits the first time on a real flat and was back on the road in 10 to15 minutes. Great idea to practice ahead of the real deal. I also watched your trangia/wood burner stove. I own both and hiked the Appalachian Trail here in the USA with that exact wood stove using only wood the entire time. Yes the canister stoves are faster but I never had to worry about canister replacements or even carrying fuel for that matter. They also make for a great mini campfire anywhere or time. I suggest getting a windscreen for greater burning efficiency. It's really a matter of do you like fiddling with them or not. I use them all according to my mood. 😊 You earned another sub btw.

Good job, i;ve used plugs for years,and they are a lot easier to fit when the tyre is on the wheel,and a bit of air still in them.Have even done 6000kms on one repair.Keep up the good work.

A brilliant explanation of how to use what's often called "Bacon Strips" These are actually a really good product and I know of riders with have up to half a dozen of these in off road tyres but refuse to change the tyre until it is worn out! Thanks for posting!

A good thing to add in the kit is a small plier so you can remove the thing that made the flat.

Great idea to learn how to plug a tire and practice in the garden. Do buy an extra tube or small can of the cement as they go bad quickly once opened. Also, don’t believe as gospel the manufacturer’s warning that the repair isn’t permanent. As long as the puncture hole diameter is small and in the tread area, not the sidewall, plugging can last the life of the tire. I’ve been plugging flats on my bikes and cars for decades and never had one fail even at high speed. Keep up the great work!

A good go at doing the repair I’ve repaired bike tyres and family car tyres using this method ,said will get you on the road again if you loose tyre pressure it’s time to change the tyre,I have done many miles on tyres with plugs fitted I do weekly tyre pressure check👍

I used these on my pan European and it was good for 18months .

Great Channel, You can buy the sticky sticks separate, also beware of the CO2 cartridge make sure you put some gloves on and the little red jacket on them or it will freeze burn your hand on the cylinder when set off and keep your face away just in case it doesn't seal, better off carrying a little portable inflator you can set to the correct tyre pressure and charge it off your bikes USB if needed I got one off amazon for about £30, also CO2 doesn't last as long because of its molecular make up it leaks through rubber a lot faster than oxygen, if you do use CO2 in an emergency Let the tyre down and refill with air first chance you get.

Congratulations, I used a similar system myself for a new bike with a puncture, ex tyre fitter advised me what they'd used and it was cheap and simple, 7 months on and no loss of pressure, and that's a system without the adhesive stuff, just the gummy worms lol

Great idea to practice these things before you go away on a trip

As well as learning things I thought I knew but have never had to carry out, your puncture repair being a good example, I am enjoying your channel. I look forward to the next video!

Brilliant job and a task that many a seasoned biker would have struggled to do the first time. Just remember they are a great repair but def only temporary, no mad panic but should be checked at a tyre shop when convenient. If all other aspects of tyre are ok then a permanant mushroom type repair can be made or tyre changed. like your approach and delivery of the joys of motorcyling. This information is more important than most may think. The idea of a rider who doesn't have experience with fixing a flat with a plug is perfect actually. It shows the real essence of a beginner fixing a flat. So, from dog chews/treats to possibly saving you from being stranded in no man's land... This video can be of help to a ton of riders out there, who have ridden their motorcycles but have never fixed a flat, "including my self" The idea of you wanting to learn this and practice this situation says slot about you as a Rider! Because the more you are prepared as a Rider the more you can enjoy the world of being on two wheels. Which enables us all to gain one of the most important things as a motorcycle rider, experience 👍

Just found your channel. Interesting to follow the preparations for the trip, and will be following your journeys on the bike. How weird, i am ex ambulance tech before they invented paramedics now retired ( thank god) Owned a v4 saab 96 and now riding a Meteor as well as an Interceptor with a sidecar and was in Marlborough high street a couple of weeks after you were there. Good luck with the trip, i have no doubt that you are going to have a great time.

These are only good on small hole punctures such as screws or nails. They don't work on small slit punctures such as broken hacksaw blades.

Great information. Great channel. But may I suggest you try a Dynaplug. I'm not a sales rep or anything but I have used mine a few times now. No taking wheel off. No reaming required. Pull out what caused the puncture. Then at the same angle push the tool, that comes loaded with the first repair cord, straight in the the puncture area. I have enough space under my seat for a cycle pump so I use that. But that's it. Job done. If it's still letting out a little air you can just put another cord in next to the last. Also it's good enough for a permanent fix. Do a RU-vid search for it and watch a demonstration. Thank me later. My last comment was removed, probably because I put a link in to where you can buy a dynaplug. But if you look them up you will find them.

I use LINSEAL and a pump its alot less bother.

Hi Charlie, I have used the string type repair kit in the past, but I've just ordered the screw plug kit, which is far easier/quicker to use when on the side of the road, it's a get you home IMHO and I always get tyre professionally repaired when home. Putting the glue on that reamer was a waste of time, it had dried or even disappeared by the time you got the plug in. You would have been better off putting the glue on the plug, which would have made pushing the plug in much easier. I don't know why that miserable twat at the shop couldn't have shown you how to do it. Don't listen to the snowflakes that tell you to go straight to a tyre place and get your tyre repaired properly. I have used tyre plugs for 5000 miles with no problem.
