If you don't have a range that goes out past 100 yards can you still get good long range practice in?

I have learned that 22lr out to 200/250 yards can teach you a lot about reading wind and a lot of you as a shooter

Love seeing content like this man. I just ran my 14.5 in a PRS match and this concept of 2ish moa targets at 100yds with cheap ball ammo puts training in a MUCH more accessible range

You can get 80% of the experience you need at 100 meters. As a matter of fact if you shoot 1 k rounds at 100 you will beat most.

My unwanted .02, but I did this a few months ago and I wish I had done it when I began shooting: I highly reccomend you purchase a spotting scope to save yourself time walking back and forth to check your taget. Saves a lot of precious time at the range, and super useful for spotting other shooters or having them spot you! I’ve spent whole range days just spotting and it can be just as fun as pulling the trigger

@isaace8090 Год назад
This. I have a small cheap 12x for zeroing at 25-50 yards and a much larger scope for 100 and beyond. At the range I like to go to, this means I only have to stop shooting to swap out targets.
@seanoneil277
@seanoneil277 Год назад
Multi-task your shuttle run fitness with target checking, much cheaper. But if you're time-crunched a spotter is nice. On 300yd days I take my bike and pedal down to the target and back.

My lazy ass uses a drone for further targets😅 land it ~10yds 45* offset from the target, check hits and move it on to the next one.

I bought a spotting scope because I thought it was super important when I started LR. It has been way more helpful for general life and general shooting than long range, practically. My wife is still learning angular measurements, so I rarely have a spotter for any shooting but checking my 556 hits on a public range, getting a good idea for corrections, helping fellow shooters zero their stuff or get on target? Ranging doors across a parking lot with my wife and checking our math with a LRF? (That just us?) the 800 bucks or so was honestly way worth it. Watching traffic lights across the knik arm, air shows from the mountains, mountains from the hood of the car… what a great investment to pair with the family binos and lrf.

Training with 22lr has saved me a lot in ammo cost, reading wind and really helps keep up on fundamentals. I don’t feel so rusty when I step out on the big boy ranges. I also recently got a pcp air gun so I can train in city limits, sometimes even on my lunch breaks.
@williamkiger3273
@williamkiger3273 Год назад
You can build a profile in your kestrel with zero offset for the training ammo. And get “data” if you have range and not your match ammo.

Out of my 16 inch 1:8twist 223wylde chamber people can use 223 55grain if the gun is zeroed for 5.56 75 grain. Very similar hits out to at least 300. Lol completely anecdotal but having range and training ammo is a great thing. This channel is the best folks

You had a way more stable platform when using the bag. Have you thought about using a smallish bag instead of the bipod for most of the positions? I'm completely new to PRS, so this is not a recommendation, just an observation after watching your trigger cam footage.

Good stuff man, really like this setup! 100+ ranges are hard to find within reasonable distance around me. Quick question, which reticle is that in the NF? I’m looking to buy a Nightforce soon and am having trouble deciding on a reticle. I like the Mil-XT but I like that broken circle in this one too.
