Excellent. I try to start every practice with long tones then overtones. It’s a great way to warm up the horn for the rest of the session. Thanks!

I’m glad you posted this video in english. I watch many of your lessons even though I don’t speak much Spanish so I miss a lot of key points. It’s amazing what can be learned just listening to a musician play. This time I was able to absorb the entire content. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.

Great video and great sax exercise. Thank you so much for your content. I've only a suggest for you, make sure that the beginning of the exercise is well introduced by the metronome, your session starts around the third quarter and it's difficult to start with you. The same thing when you start with the second half. Thank you

I’ve been using this for a few days and I just noticed that your higher octave seems to be much sharper than mine

It’s actually while becoming a fan of yours that I thought to try and see about finally trying to play sax 🎷 , as I’ve been contemplating doing so for the longest ... Being a soloist as a guitarist & piano/keyboardist I am always moved by wonderful playing of wind instruments ... After paint (being my first & initial instrument ) I later got a little bit into trumpet & guitar .... but I soon let go of my trumpet endeavors as I got so overwhelmed with great interests towards guitar ... But during my musical journeys I alway have love interest in the saxophone 🎷... But I’ve never really acted on it as yet ... But I’m checking out the sheer technical basics the instrument itself , even after development of so much musical vocabulary form listening to much horn players in developing solo vocab on guitar and keyboard solo & lead playing .. z I always feel like a soloist playing harmonica instruments (guitar 🎸... piano /keys 🎹 ...etc...) But besides my favorite solo artists who are guitarists & pianists (eg. on guitars 🎸: George Benson ... WES MONTGOMERY 💥🙏🏽👍🏽... Larry Carlton ... Lee Ritenour ... Eric Gale .. Robenson Ford ... Ricardo Silveira ... Tonho Horta .... 🎸..... On Piano/Keyboards 🎹: Bill Evans ... Wynton Kelly ..: Oscar Peterson ... Dave Grusin .... Bob James ... Herbie Hancock .... Chick Corea .... Ramsey Lewis .... Joe Sample .... Michel Petrucciani .... 🎹 ..... just to name just a few right off the top of my mind at the moment ...) But certain saxophonist have stood out as favorite Solo Artists of mine : (Eg.: 🎷: CHARLIE PARKER .... Julian ‘Cannon Ball’ Adderley ... John Coltrane ... Phil Woods .., Stan Getz ,,. Gerry Mulligan ... PAUL DESMOND 💥🎷💥🙏🏽👍🏽.... Dave Sanborn .... Mike Brecker ..... GERALD ALBRIGHT 💥🙏🏽👍🏽... KENNY G 💥🙏🏽💥👍🏽... DAVE KOZ 💥🙏🏽👍🏽..., EVERETTE HARP 💥🙏🏽👍🏽... RICHARD ELLIOT 💥🙏🏽👍🏽... ..., And in recent times ...., LUCIA SARMIENTO 🙏🏽💥🙏🏽🎷🤗 Rising Shining 💥Star 💥. .... 🙏🏽💥🙏🏽✊🏽🙏🏽👍🏽💥👍🏽🎷

Why do you ignore the tones below low D and above high D?
@katrinarose2210

I've looked at your channel, and it's obvious that you're skilled at what you do, but I'll give an answer anyway, whether you still need the answer or if someone else doesn't understand. the exercise stays within an octave so that you don't play too high or low in your range while warming up. if you stretch your range too soon, you can screw up your tone's potential and introduce bad habits such as over biting, over blowing, or in the worst case, both. In this particular form of the exercise, we're not looking for range, we're looking for evenness of tone, and to reinforce your embrasure on the horn. This is great for when you just pick up the horn and need to set your chops properly. This is a very "classically trained" way of warming up and enforces the type of technique that will give you a smooth, rounded, and dark sound from your saxophone, or any instrument for that matter. I've seen this style of warm up used for full Wind Ensembles or Marching Bands ranging from middle schoolers to pro drum corps. In a classical training context, we're looking for firstly the cleanest tones possible, and then we work on extended techniques, some saxophonists going as far as to have a "jazz embrasure" that is entirely different from their "classical embrasure", similar to how some musicians switch mouthpieces to sound different in different genres. Regardless, the idea comes from building off of a foundation. If I can't play middle D in tune with a good tone, how the hell am I going to expect myself to play bottom or top D in tune? Or God forbid another Octave or 2 up? This is where you build your foundation, so that when you do start to work on your lower or higher ranges, you will have a fresh image of what your embrasure should feel like, and you'll sooner be able to catch whether or not you've changed your embrasure in different ranges, which is not preferred
