"Feel the weight of your instrument" Well, I'm a pianist, that might be a problem ahahahahahah jokes apart, this video was really motivating, thank you ♡
Great tips! Very easy to take away from this at my level.. with just over 1 year's experience, I struggle to to make small improvements and critique myself but this will help me practice smarter
These videos are so informative, thank you! We need more insight into the minds of world class musicians and how they stoke the flame of excellence and keep it ignited over the years and decades. Wonderful work!
This was a fantastic video. As a returning violinist (three years break due to medical reasons) this is incredibly helpful to getting me back into the swing of things. Thank you so much for posting this! :)
Thank you so much for making those videos! This one in particular is very helpful. I wrote them down and will try to follow these principles when I practice. Having the right mindset when practicing is so important!
Thank you so much, I was having such a difficult time staying focused and not getting frustrated durning my practice time. I will definitely start applying your routine to my daily practice time!
I'm a new violinist, aged 70. My wife has told me that she thinks I'm in love with Nicky! (She's not wrong 🤣) Every time she walks past and sees me watching one of her videos she smiles and says "Awwwww ......' These are fantastic learning aids. Thank you so much for posting them.
Lovely inspiration video, I pick up my violin each day because I have always loved it as an instrument. Whatever I try and play I like to put some free expression in it. I used to be a taxi driver and I was always talking about music to Catherine who plays the cello, she has worked with you in a string Quartet playing Italian Baroque music. I love Baroque music as it is more akin to traditional folk music. I don't know why everyone else wants to play the big concertos such as Paganini Brahms Beethoven and Tchaikovsky. What one hears with those concertos and what one can actually play are entirely different things through my experience. Adam Beanstock.
Your doing a great job Nicola , some times you will hear it said what great talent, but that a small part of the story you have to put in hours of pratice every day Ian Anderson
Same started 1 year ago self taught can even play a couple easy songs and do some vibrato, i do play daily though, aside from that if i never saw 0.000001 improvement id probably quit lol
Thank you, thank you, thank you. What great advice. I must watch this several more times. As an adult amateur I can only hope to achieve a bit of what you are teaching, but what a worthwhile journey!!
Wow, this was very insightful! Thank you. I liked how you stressed on the attitude, I find it's so important when I practice to make sure 1. I am calm 2. I am concentrated. That allows me to have the patience, persistence and interest (!) to take the time and find the right note and the right sound, no matter how long it takes and how quickly I lose it again. Practice makes perfect, if it's the right type of practice.

Love thw information you are giving. Thank you so much!!
Just a reminder : nobody's perfect. It's okay to fail, it's okay to do only 1% of it, it's okay. Really important thing (and should be on top of the list i think) : enjoy! 🤟
Again your focus is on getting the mind and body in a calm state allowing focus. So smart and works so well. I am largely self-taught and have discovered this. However, I recommend some stretching exercises for hands and arms and body. 5 minutes did the trick. I have 2 violins, one a inexpensive strad and an expensive guarneri, both ring like a flower opening to the sun light. The cheap one does it best and so easy to know you have found gold. You are the first I can recall mentioning this very important aspect. Thanks for a beautiful list to use each day.
Thank you so much for all of your so valuable guidance and inspiration. As being a viola player, having picked up the instrument after fourty years again, your lessons are so helpful and encouraging. Is there any possibility that you might enrich your lessons for viola specific aims as well? Lots of thanks anyway, Hannes.
Thanks Nicola, I play the mandolin and being tuned the same as the violin I am looking to upgrade from Irish and bluegrass music to classical pieces, I can really feel the connection here with this tutorial. 👍
Hi Nicky thanks for posting these fantastic videos as a beginner on the violin I’ve found them great to follow especially the video on vibrato which I’m Just getting to grips with, The strings I’m currently using are dominant strings which I’ve got from the violin shop in Edinburgh which you might know, They seem to be good as my violin was bought for a few hundred pounds what I would like to ask is do you think the strings you are using would make a big difference on a violin like mine Greetings Edward
Hi Nicola, I just want to thank you for this video. I've written down all your steps into my journal and I read it everyday before practice. It's made such a huge improvement in how I feel and hopefully in how I sound 😁. I have been approaching and leaving my instrument with much more happiness. After completing a B.M and M.M followed by the unexpected circumstances of the world, I felt so stuck in my playing and almost wanted to give up. I feel like you collected all the good advice that different teachers give us and put it into one video which really simplifies things and makes practicing less intimidating. I'm excited to continue this routine..thank you thank you!!
Dear Nicky thank you for all those videos. I have a request if you could tell us about developing beautiful INTONATION and keeping maintenance, related problems, and exercises related to Intonation. Thank you for your time.
