I'd advise that anyone who is going to be working with another person creativity making somthing that has a potential to make money then it's best to have a entertainment lawyer to oversee any agreement. For Me as a music producer I make it clear from My first email to an artist My intention, fees and any costs involved and inform them that any agreement will be overseen by My entertainment lawyer, they have to hire there own as sharing a the same Lawyer with the singer or artist is not a good idea.

Honestly, great content and interesting topics! I was a classical musician (later EDM DJ/Producer) and this is why I went to law school! Granted now I'm in real estate law (which I do love as well!)

I went to university and have a B.A. in Media Production. I've been working in adult prime time animated sitcoms for 5 years as a Production Manager. I've found that the Legal department is usually the biggest pain in the butt because they pay the least amount of attention to the shows, yet, somehow get paid the most. I feel like I've hit a bit of a glass ceiling as a PM and was thinking about getting into Entertainment Law myself since I already have full pipeline production experience. My main question is how to prepare (Canadian, FYI): - Study for LSAT - Apply to law schools - Then what? Do the schools matter? Should I aim for a shorter program than a longer one so I can get to work quicker? Is there such thing as an Entertainment Law program (research shows law schools seems to be kinda generalized). Thanks for any and all help!

Hiya, I’m in a very similar position. My B.A. was in Film Production and I’ve been working on-off as a Production Coordinator for the past two years. I’m already hitting that ceiling and want a stable job rather than a freelance life. Did you end up going for law school? If I decide to go for Entertainment Law, I’ll likely be taking the LSAT later this summer and applying to law school in the fall for admissions next year.

@@desolationdiamond1736 Glad to hear you went for some changes. I am still in a holding pattern and working the same job, not sure how to proceed. My partner started school so if I do make a change, it would be in 18 months. I might attend the University Expo in Toronto this year to get a primer on some of the programs. Which law school were you looking to apply to?

@@IIMIKEYMOII I'm hoping to apply to and get in to UCLA since I already live in Los Angeles and could commute. UCLA has an entertainment law specialty and is a highly reputable law school. I'm mainly interested in law schools only in the Southern California region. From what I understand, it can very much matter where you go for law school and the types of opportunities you get. I heard similar messaging for film school but I went to a cheaper program in the area I wanted to live in (Los Angeles) and that was ultimately the best financial and career decision for me. At the end of law school, there is a state bar exam. California and New York have the most rigorous bar exams and passing the bar in either of those two states will transfer to working in any state in the US. The same cannot be said for passing the state bar in Georgia, Florida, Arizona, etc. Many students go to law school elsewhere and end up traveling to CA to take that bar exam. Hope some of that info helps! I've decided on taking the LSAT this August and applying this Fall for admission in Fall 2024.

how much are you getting paid for this music industry, contract term thing. I want to get into this but I know the game is annoying, controlled by rich people so you do play your role however, which I want to study law. but I think the best act of law is human rights, seen as though what the government is doing... tbh it seems to me doesn't matter which side you pick as you have people working under different acts, what are the two most popular, ? going onto third and fourth avenue.. I have about 3 more years until I can go and study law, I am going to try apply now for foundation year. if we can work business by helping each other through this avenue on RU-vid we'll most definitely link up in future. thanks for being awesome and please give me a reply. human rights >< entertainment law
