hey, I am from India and still watching your videos to learn french I have been learning french for 4 years and your contribution is also there in my studies that's y thanks!!
I am learning English for ages and now have just learned French . So the phrase "de l'argent de poche" or "pocket money" (according to Alex's translation) is very strange to me and a little bit weird. Can you explain the meaning of the word please? Thanks
Just remember its always gonna be “de" if its negative! de or d’ when the next word starts with a vowel. Just look at the whole sentence see if there is any negative like pas or jamais and immediately think of “de”. Good luck!
I did not know that 'de l' ' was applicable to both gender nouns if they start with a vowel or 'h' . I'm always pleased when I understand and learn a new rule!
Thank you so much!! I am now in middle school and I remember studying from these videos in my primary school. I am now studying for my french test and these videos are very helpful. Thank you so much, Alexa!!. Also, it would be so very helpful if you could make a video on Les articles definis contractes
I love this lesson, but often still get confused when to use DE LA/DU/De l’/DES vs LA/LE/L’/LES. I think it’s because we don’t always use “some” in English, it’s still sometimes difficult to identify in French WHEN “some” should be used instead of “the.”
I had the same problem. But my confusion is more on the literal meaning of du/de la/de l' because they seem to mean "from the", and if one is to translate "mange du fromage" to English, it would be "to eat/bite off from the cheese, which doesn't always make sense to me either.
Hi Alex, learning French with is really fun for me. I had been learning French by Duo application but every time I was confused using de, du, de la, les etc, bcoz Duo never told these secrets of French. Thanks for delivering this lecture which has given clarity. Big regards
Love your videos mam 😭😭😭 they are just amazing plz come to India and give a workshop in my school so that my friends also get to know about you( a wonderful teacher) 👍👍👍😘
Bonjour Alexa , I have a question. Why does it happen that sometimes the word ending with E get masculine, as always a word ending with E is feminine. Few times i get confused in this so that make my answer wrong. Merci REGARDS Aadhya
In the 6th sentence why is it *de sucre* instead of *du sucre*? I would've thought that quantity doesn't apply to the sugar. Or are you buying 500 grams of fruits and 500 grams of sugar? The way I was reading that sentence I thought you were buying 500 grams of fruits and some sugar... Or can a mixed sentence like that not be constructed? Can I not say quantity of something and some of some-other-thing?
Oooooh, I think I get it now, does French not have mass nouns/uncountable nouns? (I'm not sure of the correct term). In English for instance, we say "I love your hair" as a singular group, but in French you say "I love your hairs". Does French not have the mass grouping of stuff into a singular, like in English? So pasta will be pastas because there's loads of them?
Hello, dear Alexa. Could you, please explain in short, why in this sentence, "Avez vous un horaire de trains," isn't des, but de article? This question has vexed me for the last 4 weeks. Thanks in advance.
Bonjour alexa Je suis kriti Je suis indienne I want to ask that why in the 6th question why we used DE with fruits Because fruits have S in ending so why din't we used DES ?? PLS TELL ME
Merci beacoup mais could you please make a video on direct and indirect pronouns...…. Also pronoms toniques if possible...…….. I have a test in school in may please help if you can Sil vous plait
Bonjour Alexa ! Another question. if there is a sentence called volez vous de' l eau as you gave in the sentence so i do not understand that the sentence do not begin with a vowel or a silent. So what is the usage of putting de' l. Merci REGARDS Aadhya
beaucoup d'argent and not beaucoup de l'argent can confuse early learners (like me). It's cause de in beaucoup de doesn't change. Also in negative sentences you'll see d'argent.
je voudrais un kilo de pommes. I am confused with the verb -voudrais. is it not supposed to ne past continues/imparfait as it ends with -ais with Je. Is there something that I do not know and make it mean -I would like?
So the rule for de l' overrides the fact that argent is masculine? And for the rule of negations when these articles become "DE" (03:27) they also become d' before a vowel or a "h"?
Thank you so much, Alexa! This really helped me understand. I still get confused when to use these instead of le, la, les... because "some" doesn't always seem to apply.
bonjour ! actually I was having a doubt in 7th question the word was abricots so you put des but its also starting with a vowel ? so like is there any kind of exception or something ? pls reply

Love your videos! I really need a lesson on direct and indirect object pronouns, I mess them up (especially their order) when they appear in the same sentence, e.g." Tu veux le lui dire."

Bonjour Alexa, Merci beaucoup pour votre cours x I am stuck on one thing … when we turn something into a negative we put ne before the verb and pas after I.e je ne mange pas de pain etc, why is it je n’ai pas achete de pates and not je n’ai achete pas de pates? Thankyou xx
